So to eliminate a bad habit I have to form an anti-habit that is mentally associated with a bad habit. I'll have to try it out. I'm a nail-biter and I've quit several times over the years, but something will set me off and before I realize it I'm back to my old bad habit.
It doesn't matter that 100 people dropped dead of sudden heart attack in England today. And that 100 will drop dead of sudden heart attack in England tomorrow, and the next day. And the next, etc.
I feel for the 200, but they were not murdered.
And it doesn't matter that we could take all that money from the war machine budget and use it to cure sudden heart attacks and cancer
Money does not equate to a cure for anything.
All that matters is that the elite can use this little bombing to SCARE YOU
YOU scare me.
You ain't nuttin' but meat machines, nuttin' but domesticated livestock, swimming in an elite-friendly culture evolved by decades of elite propaganda, and heeding the call of your CorpGovMedia masters
You're going to have to explain to me exactly which propaganda to which you refer.
What bugs me is that the G8 might have actually talked about African aid, farm subsidies, and global warming. At least that was the agenda by Blair. Now, well the terrorists are playing right into the hands of George Bush!
I'm pretty sure that Al-Qada [sic] doesn't really care much about global warming, African aid, or farm subsidies.
I agree. If someone pays a $10 per hour janitor a few thousand dollars to swap out a backup tape from our server room, we are responsible in one way or another. After all we are stewards of the data.
You're right. We shouldn't be upset that the U.N. is only responsible for 8 billion dollars going into a genocidal maniac's pockets. The fact that he used it to kill many of the very people it was supposed to benefit shouldn't bother anyone.
What is there to gain from removing MSG as many seem to want?
I know that alot of people are allergic to MSG. I know about 3 personally, but the most extreme is my mother. If she eats anything with MSG in it she gets a severe migraine and locks herself in a quiet dark room for two days. It took her years to figure out what was causing the migraines. She has no kind words about MSG.
Excerpt of a typical meeting. Note that the day is Friday.
Manager: When can you have X finished.
Programmer: I need two weeks to do what the client asked.
Manager: I told them you were almost finished can you have it by Monday?
Programmer: I didn't start until yesterday I need two weeks.
Manager: Ok the client is expecting it to be ready Monday you'll have to work the weekend.
Programmer: I was planning to work over the weekends to get it finished it two weeks.
Manager: (Clearly Frustrated) I need it Monday. The client will have to punchlist what does not work.
The above exchange is very close to what was actually said. If this was the first company where I had heard that conversation I'd be bolting. Unfortunately no matter where I would run there would be a manger and programmer having the same conversation.
I would not say they are fighting for their freedom as much as I would say they are fighting to control every one else's freedom.
OK... I'm tired of hearing this.

QA != Testing

Cost, Time and Quality and you can only have 2 out of the 3.
Every time I hear this I cringe, because it is complete crap. On a small level or to someone who has no quality assurance practices in place, it appears to be true, but for large projects/products quality assurance is inversely proportional to cost and time precisely because it cuts down on the amount of time required to develop and test a product to its specifications. Quality assurance procedures will help ensure that errors are caught early on in the project lifecycle and develop standard procedures for project development which may have an initial hit on timelines, but in the end save time. The really nice thing about good quality assurance procedures is that they generally get easier as people get familiar with them and time goes on.
For instance, you can have a project done fast and cheap but the quality will be lacking. Or you can have a project done correctly and quickly but it will cost you a fortune!
I'm assuming that when you say quickly here you are thinking of thowing more manpower at the solution because, as the time to complete a project increases the cost increases and vice versa. Quality does not mean features and flawless software. It means that your client gets what they ask for on budget and it works like specified.
Cost is directly proportional to time, quality assurace might add some time to the project, but it has been my experience that the time it adds is usually offset during testing and not having to add features that a client expects during / after internal testing.
It has been my experience that it is better to write clear code, which also means clearly understandable algorithms. The vast majority of the time the compiler will optimize better than a person can anyway. If during testing it is determined that the program runs to slow, then start worrying about optimization.
Part of the city also has access to Cox Communications' cable high-speed Internet connections. Those are faster, but city officials say they're wary of the cost after six price increases in four years. They're seeking to build a "triple play" video, phone and data system.
What's so funny about that statement is that the Lafayette city council voted to make Cox the only cable company in Lafayette, thus making them a monopoly.
Now, city leaders say they need high-speed data pipelines to encourage a research park around the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Without them, the small businesses they hope to attract would turn away for lack of the tools they need.
Lafayette is in serious trouble. Most of the major oil companies are moving out because of the taxes imposed in Louisiana on oil companies. Lafayette was never able to diversify their economy and now it's starting hurt.
Also as an interesting side note: Lafayette also owns the local utility system.
My kids usually have the option to eat their food later if they don't want to eat now, but they do have to sit at the table with my me and my wife until we are finished.
Convince them that the dinner tastes better than dessert, and you'll be OK
They are children... not idiots. For the most part they decide what they like and don't like. Sure I suppose I could never let them taste things like cheesecake, cookies, candy, chocolate, or the myriad of other tasty sweet things they might enjoy.
Personally, in this instance, I'd rather teach them moderation than abstinence.
When children are young things like pudding are an issue, but since your typical 4 or 5 year old has no means to obtain the pudding there are no safeguards in place to prevent it.
Do you support the laws that fine stores that sell pornography to children?
At what age does someone become responsible enough to purchase pornography? What about drugs? Superglue? Paint? Whiteout? Guns? Bullets?
In this case the government is assisting parents. They are assuring that the only way a person under the age of 18 can get these video games is if someone over the age of 18 purchases the game for them... like a parent or guardian. They are not suggesting that a parent could not purchase the game for their child.
I realize that the quote probably was quite out of context, but my micro-rant was referring to it in the context of the slashdot article and post.
Actually... my kids don't get any dessert/candy/snacks if they don't eat the provided portion at mealtime. I also get to decide what kind of dessert/candy/snack and portion they get later on.
Let me guess your kids only eat their meal and never have snacks/candy/dessert? Here is a chicken or egg for you. Do children who eat to much bad food, when they get the chance, eat it because their parents restrict them from eating it, or do their parents restrict them from eating it because they tend to eat it to much?
I loathe how someone can take a single item and determine that it is the cause of all America's woes. What causes obesity in America is a wide range of problems from meal portions/availability/type to exercise and everything in between.

All extremists should be taken out and shot
Love the sig line, but don't you think it's a bit extreme?
Not necessarily ironic, but it is definitely misplaced.
After exposing that the emperor has no pants, don't expect him to be grateful and not have you drawn and quartered.
I agree. If someone pays a $10 per hour janitor a few thousand dollars to swap out a backup tape from our server room, we are responsible in one way or another. After all we are stewards of the data.
Dispense with the insults, please.
OK. I apologize for the insult. I'm just sick of that spin.

Tell us how you REALLY feel about Microsoft.
Yeah... that's exactly why "Stranger in a Strange Land" was such a flop.
