    US Government regs are in the public domain in that there is no copyright on them. You can republish them all you want. This includes the Tax code.

    Remember that while you can sue for just about anything you do have to get the judge to agree with you. Now I have no idea about French judges, but I would guess most judges in this country would throw this out so fast that it would make your head spin. Plus the web page is hosted here in the USA.

    My gut says this whole thing is BS. In part because the journal in question is based at MIT. MIT is not 3 random guys with a web server, it is a Major university with major money behind it. And how did a french court get a search warent in a civil case in the US? I have some respect for the my State on this one. Please lets check this one out a bit, it just smells fake to me.

    If I can get one of these implanted in my cat. That way if he ever gets out we can find him. I can think of a lot of uses like that, for example if you implated it in cows it would make life much easer for rachers. Or you could use it to tag animals for wildlife studies. I'm not sure I would want them in people, but I think it would be very usefull for animals.

    There is enough stigma attached to mental illness. Actually there is a lot more than enough. And it is a very real and very serious thing. And it should be remembered that mental illness is a PHYSIOLOGICAL problem most of the time.

    So lets stop bitching about this and do something. I know both parties are having trouble getting people to run for office. So how about some folks consider running for your State Leg or Congress. Even if you don't win you might get stuff taked about.

    Mostly they are for the US Gov and people who contract for them. The US gov requires different levels of security depending on what you are doing.

    If someone wanted to certify linux I think the best aproach would be for a hardware vendor to make a custom distro that was closly controled.
    and certify it on known hardware.

    (Yes you can closly control it, just say if you want to be C2 get it from us, and use only our hardware).

    Someone will probably do this at some point. As soon as they have a good reason to do so.

    The big difference is that people where using the terms "Playboy" and "Playmate" to try and atract customers to their web sites. Imaging starting a new Newspaper and calling it "The New York Times" the real New York Times would have a good reason to say no you can't do that. Whereas it would be perfectly OK for another newspaper to publish an article critical of the New York Times.

    Trademark law is desinged so that if you have a product noneone else will start a compeating product with a similar name. It does not provent similar products. Or other people from using your name in the press (online or otherwise)

    One of the things I like about Linux and Free software is that lots of people can use it to fit with their own ideals. If the PRC wants to use linux and focus on the parts of the ideals that fit with Marxism they should go right ahead. I'll use it and focus on the bits that fit with my ideals. And ESR will focus on what fits with his.

    We all get better software out of it.

    In 500 years we (The Jewish people) will still remember the Shoah. Count on it. We still remember the Exile in Egypt, we still remember Massada and the destruction of the temple (73 CE) we still remember the Masicure at York (1190 CE) and many others. Trust me WE WILL REMEMBER.

    And while we are at it we will remember the fact that in all Europe only the Danes as a nation protected their Jewish Population.

    Hittler did not start by mass murder. But the Jews were striped of Civil rights very quickly after Hitler came to power in '33. And Anti-Jewish retoric was a key point in the platform of the Nazi party in the runup to that election.

    Under US law anything broadcast on radiowaves (Except Cell phones) is free for anyone to listen to. If the NSA wants to listen in on Ham Radio or Air Trafic control or CB. They have just as much right to do so as You or I do. (They just have bigger toys to do it with).

    I object to people using the term "Nazi" (And Fascist etc) in ways that are really trivial. Not just in this case the US govenerment has ignored civil rights in one way or another more times that we would like true but Nazi Germany MURDERED 6 million people. I am woried that the true horror of that may be reduced my the overuse of the term.

    Just to compair the term "Vandal" probably makes 95% of people here think of some kid with a a can of spray paint and not the tribe that sacked and destroyed Roman civialzation. In 500 years I want people to remember exactly what the Nazi's did.

    Now that does not mean that our government is perfect. But please keep the term Nazi for those who Truly Deserve it.

    No because you don't have to buy *THAT* brand of motherboard. I have no objection to *SOME* pc's shipping with windows. I object to almost *ALL* PC's shiping with windows. Also the charege will probably be on the order of $2/board or something.

    One trick I like is to come up with names that can fit into 2 (Or more groups of ideas) For example if you had 2 servers named "Calvin" and "Hobbes" you could name your next servers after some of the other Calvin and Hobbes charecters. Or you could name them things like "Luther" and "Huss" and after other Rennisanse thinkers. Lets you do fun leaps of logic.

    The problem is that doctors will give you an antibiotic at the drop of a hat. And many people will be given 10 days worth of pills but stop taking them after 5-6 six days because they feel better. Not realizing that it is very improtant to take them.

    The antibiotic only kills some percent of the bacteria in your system. And ofcourse the most resistent ones survive.

    Ofcourse we could start re cycling 25 year old antibiotics. The bacteria have probably evovled out of being resistent to those.

    Well you could buy a copy of the paper. IMHO it is not at all unreasonable for the NYT time require you to login to their site. They spend a lot of money to gather all that news. Hell they have to pay the guy who goes and does the interview and the editor etc. You get the product of all that for *FREE*. If you don't want to login buy a copy of the physical paper at your newsstand.
