The central reason why most people in Atlanta can't get ADSL is because AT&T, the leading Cable Modem provider in Georgia, is blocking DSL expansion in areas where AT&T is the only broadband provider.
Although Atlanta is expanding at a suprising rate, newer neighborhoods are getting Cable Modem access before they get DSL, some having been around for years and have yet to see a glimmer of DSL.
I do agree that it may seem like slavery to most Westerners. But I wonder, considering the Pharoahs were Gods in the eyes of the builders, if said builders might've considered it their holy duty to complete these pyramids for what we now consider "free of charge?"
I just wonder how much one of these "slaves" would've objected to building the most important monument one could build for his Pharoah and his country? A chance to be a part of the construction of the single largest, most impressive visual image a person could experience at the time.
Perhaps it was forced labor, but (perhaps out of ignroance) I'm wondering how forced it was.
All the fight choreography was arranged by Donnie Yen, most recently of Highlander 4, but perhaps better known as Wong Kei-Ying from Iron Monkey.
The upshot is that the fight scenes (which is what you should be seeing this movie for, not the plot), are incredible. Donnie Yen himself is a minor character in this movie, but fans will be dissapointed to discover that he has only one noteable fight scene, which is very breif, and no dialog whatsoever. However, as dedicated fans know, Donnie Yen's trying to steer his career away from acting and more towards direction and choreography, both of which he excells at.
Obviously this is what we have to look forward to in the future.
If Microsoft doesn't patch their bugs for us, or remove/make optional features/bugs of their operating system for us, we'll write programs that do.
Hell, I don't start IE6 without a copy of Pop Up Stopper by Panicware, since I can't turn off pop up windows like I can in Mozilla. And the really bright ones among us don't use anything but litestep:)
So who wants to start a betting pool on how long it'll take Microsoft to start lawsuits against programs like these?

From what I've gleaned from developer's interviews, the major advantage to the XBox has nothing to do with Microsoft's business practices.
Mainly, it's the similarities to programming for a PC. There's little retraining needed, and development time is cut way down due to the pre-configured nature of a gaming platform.
I doubt John Woo would do a movie produced by someone other than himself, but...
I like the idea of Chow Yun-Fat and Bruce Campbell in a movie together, but only IF Bruce Campbell plays the badass and Chow Yun-Fat plays the comedy relief:)
Let's not forget, disillusionment with any field can be the result of bad teaching. If you find yourself pouring through slow and tedious assignments, your teacher's probably to blame.
I like to say the same for management. A good boss can make doing stock at 2am seem like fun.
If you know you hate doing repetative and unrewarding homework and labs, become a teacher and don't do the same to your students. If you think your major's unchallenging, challenge your students.
School could be a lot more fun for a lot more people if we got proactive about it.
I'm sure Microsoft could come up with a way to define it as such.
The thing is, are they willing to dump money into litigation and law suits to the point that Zone Alarm changes policy or goes out of business due to legal fees?
Is there a Scientology Microsoft connection? Their tactics seem awful similar sometimes.
I personally hope everybody and anybody switches to Mozilla.
As a web developer, it's in my best interests to have cross-browser compatability issues to worry about. The worse two different browsers render the same code, the harder it is to build a GUI application to write HTML, which would phase me out of a job.
So, all the bugs and incompatabilities in the world only make my job more important. Bring it on!
IIRC, most chinese swords seen on film aren't made of the same metal they were made of for "practical application", so to speak.
I know the Tai Chi sword (or Lion Head sword, or whatever), might've been slightly flexable to create a whipping effect, something Chinese martial artists are very keen on in many ways.
Lots of talk about Japanese and European swords and swordsmanship here. Very informative.
But what about Chinese swords? Anything noteworthy about them? And if the European and Japanese sword tactics spoke against parrying with the blade (or at least the edge), does the same go for Kung Fu?
Windows9x is a bit like a Z28 with an automatic transmission; it gets you where you need to go, it's not slow per say, and it does most things for you whether it's the right thing to do or not.
WindowsNT is similar, except it's got more horsepower, and thusly you're more likely to die on the highway in it.
Linux is alot like a highly-turbocharged Toyota Supra with the turbo dialed down and a manual transmission. It ain't slow, but you can get it to go faster, if you know how. Just getting around in it requres some getting used to, and you can die on the highway with it as well. On the whole, it's what the "real" racers would prefer, but comparatively few people are "real" racers.

Mmmm, naw, I really don't think so. The FBI's currrent state isn't a reflection of the voting public because the FBI, by its very nature, is beyond the influence of the voting public.
I believe the FBI, and many other government agencies, work beyond the influence of the people they supposedly work for. And for that reason, and many more, my time in America is measured against the day I finally move out.

That's what impresses me so about Warren Spector. When compared to people like John Carmack, he doesn't have a history of incredible engines or ground-breaking technologies (not to detract from the great JC, of course; the guy's incredible).
But what he does have (and this is more important IMO), is a consistant track record of awesome games. Has Spector ever produced anything average, I wonder?

By extension, because the hammer is a tool used to circumvent the DMCA, all hammers must be outlawed.
Correct. Directed by (guess who???) Peter Jackson of LOTR fame!

I'd recommend anyone interested in Donnie Yen to pick up Iron Monkey, of course, but moreover the movies he himself directed, such as Legend of the Wolf and Ballistic Kiss.

Think it can't be done? Go watch God of Gamblers.
I was actually quite shocked that he wasn't in "O Brother Where Art Thou", a movie that seemed to have characters tailor-made for Bruce.
His kind of comedy delivery would've done that movie right. Too bad, I guess.
Um, the guy's married.
Most of these questions are answered in his book, which every fan should read, regardless.
