we allow people to repeat grade levels and university subjects. So why not go the other way and allow above average students, or students with above average dedication to finish faster.

agreed. Every time that was offered to me in grade school, I advanced much faster working at my own pace rather than that of the slowest average person in my class.

I'm not good at English, but I'm great at math. The school system didn't realize that about me until they went to a method to teach math for 4th and 5th grade students to work at their own pace. I zoomed and suddenly other options in education opened up (my zooming opened up all the advanced courses then...)

In my 6th grade social studies class, they posted the entire years assignments at the beginning of the year. I finished it by November. I was left doing special projects for the teacher for the rest of the year or studying on my own (which I preferred.) Though I learned a lot on my own during that extra time, I think it could have been better spent, but they didn't have anything in place for students like me who excelled in certain topics (math and history - which probably describes why I loved D&D which has losts of math and history)

So what is it? If government is so "inefficient" why does industry need protection? If privatizing is so much better, why worry about government getting into your business niche?

I would worry about the Fedex/UPS vs post office comparisons. In the case of UPS & Fedex, they are limited in how low they can charge their services. UPS and Fedex get around this by offering more services than the Post Office and bring more value to the customer....

still...UPS/Fedex can't compete with the Post Office. Ask managers in those companies and they'll tell you how much they hate it and think they can do a better job than the Post Office.

Now if this ISP is playing by the same rules that TWC has to play by, then I see no issue; however if the government ISP is getting around some issues because they are the government, then I have a problem with it.

Easiest solution is to privatize the government ISP and then they should be playing by the same rules.

The next best solution is to audit both and make sure they are playing by the same rules. Maybe get some group accounting group to make sure no monopoly like practices are occurring on either side. If there are, document them and fix them.

Agreed. All the certifications I have passed, I've done through book study or cbts. I hated computer class room training.

I still get certified even though I know the material because of the weed out factor which is the same reason most people get degrees.

I know of one other degree though that people get not because it is a weed out factor but for the power that it brings...Lawyers. My dad loved his letterhead. Any time he had issues with a company, his complaints were taken seriously since they didn't want to get sued.
