I'm sure I trust the government to not mishandle my passwords...such as logging in and sending sexually violent emails from me to another person in the system.
(seriously) wouldn't this be the equivalent to giving cops the keys to every lock you have and saying come look at my stuff anytime you want?
Suicidal people aren't 100% irrational zombies or something. They seize on things and overemphasize them, downplay contrary evidence, etc., but they do still have thought processes that take into account the external world.
agreed! People go insane in cultural contexts. You are not going to have someone in South America who has never heard of Wendigo suddenly believe they are Wendigo. When they go crazy they will fixate on something in their culture in their mental world.
Those left after someone commits suicide usually blame cultural fixation...such as blaming Judas Priest, Ozzy Osborne, or Dungeons and Dragons.
and it's well established that a parent cannot consent their child to....
Then who is qualified to judge when a child is ready to do anything? I know what you are trying to say and I agree there should be some base lines, but the person that should be able to help their child determine when they are ready to do something should be their parent....not their peer pressuring boy/girl friend or the state...which ultimately means the parent has some say, thus some consent.
Marriage laws already differ by state about age and parental consent. And there was already one case where a judge ruled in Texas that because of parental consent a common law marriage occurred and thus no statutory rape happened.
Here's a hint... parental consent to statutory rape does not make it any less illegal.
depends on the state.
In many states the laws are different with parental consent. Check out the marriage laws by state
I believe there was an example above that said California requires all parties to be 18 or older and that isn't true with parental consent. There is no age limit with parental consent.
You might be asking why I am bringing up marriage. Well in Houston there was a case that involved an illegal immigrant who was living with his girlfriend at her home in her room. She was 13 and he was 17*. The judge ruled that since the couple were living together with parental consent that it constituted a common law marriage. Thus no statutory rape because the couple were common law married because of parental consent.
* This was before the polygamist sect moved to Texas and we changed our laws. Before they came, the age limit was 12 for girls and 13 for boys with parental or judges consent.
Half of women have sexual dysfunction and one fourth of women don't even care that they have sexual dysfunction.
My 1st wife had the issue (both a physical and mental version) and we survived for 13 years because I loved her very much; however, she never took it as seriously as me as an issue. I was able to over look it until by accident we solved the physical aspect. One year later of no increase because of the mental sexual dysfunction drove me insane and we started divorce proceedings.
so yeah...if 'most women' is 50%, then yes, they enjoy sex. The other 50% tolerate it or out right hate it. Flip a coin...see what you get.
If I were those astronauts, I'd be hoping the spider bites me.
I'm hoping for that...and I want the spider to be a girl spider already set to lay some eggs.
damn this is getting me interested in artificial environments...such as what if we step a base on the moon complete with an artificial environment to grow food....then something happens and we are not allowed back up into space for decades. Cracking that abandoned base open would be neat just to see all the changes.
They moved everything around and added unnecessary menu options making navigation a nightmare for people familiar with prior versions. Bold moves in changing the layout for Vista and the latest Office, though it turned their user experience into a counterintuitive nightmare!
That is what I keep pointing out to people. If you are going to have to relearn everything, doesn't it make sense to consider all the alternatives? Just saying that opens up dialog with my users about all the other possible OSs
I point out that I am a windows guy whose wife loves Mac. I'm her tech support and when switching between Vista and Mac, I have about the same learning curve. I know what I need to do, but I just don't know where on this OS to find it.
I'm sure the inventor got the idea after getting caught installing a wireless webcam in a girls gym room.
'what if I could just roll it into the bathroom? Maybe make it look like a softball or something. Oh...oh...and I need to be able to shoot it from far away so if they find it, I'm not caught.'
It has been pioneered for decades that if you don't like an agency just cut the funding. The politicians even can say they are for the agency and then cut the funding or increasing the paper work...that is what needs to stop.
What I would do is judge certain agencies vital to the country
and
Guarantee a baseline budget that is adjusted for inflation for each agency. Basically let it be known that we are not going to go below X amount, but you may not get more. Give possible ways they can earn more such as the CDC reducing infections of X STD. Let the agencies manage their business.
otherwise they will just cut funding or increase the needed paperwork to make it unworkable. When Bush was Governor he increased the paperwork to get medicare for kids. Basically it required that the parents go to two places and fill out forms to get the benefits for their kids. Needless to say not everyone did it and kids that should have had health coverage didn't. Bush's 5 billion for AIDS in Africa didn't work because it was a shell game with strings attached. There was already money going to Africa that was just diverted for AIDS...however the new wording for the money said that family planning could not happen at the same clinic...Places in Africa were lucky to even have one clinic and Bush wanted them to build two just to receive money.
NASA is currently operating at 1/16 the budget of the Apollo mission days. How much leaner can it get and still do any meaningful research? Personally I think the Mars missions sound great, but it was another shell game that was played where science had to take a hit for it. Cut many projects just to put someone on Mars decades hence is bad for science now.
When the test goes live, I'll opt-in to the kiddy filter and complain when I still see some naughty bits. I'll find the sites that have been accidentally blocked (there is no doubt that there will be some, the government's own tests showed that between 2% and 8% of the internet will be accidentally blocked), and complain when I can't reach them. I'll complain when the ~30% speed penalty hits. I'll find every flaw that everyone in the industry is predicting, and complain at every step.
That isn't the best part...the best part is when you publicize blocks on political groups.
If you are going to get people riled up, at least target the ones that will vote.
Is it wrong of me to immediately think of D&D and this technology?
Since the picture can move with the paper, I can imagine having goblins pop out of no where when I toss a bunch of 1x1" pieces of paper on to the table. Then using the motion sensor part of this tech, the images move with the paper around on the terrain already displayed on the table.
I know my wife would prefer this table to having a projector permanently over our dining table.
On the positive side, it might possible to smudge or blur a memory.
I know I'd like to make a few memories less painful such as my divorce.
Though I have to wonder if blurring or wiping bad memories is enough as in my case with a divorce. The bad memories of the divorce could be erased, but then I'd have the longing of why such a positive marriage ended.
"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain."

ok...I haven't watched the vids because I am at work, but how can a paper trail fail? I mean if I get a receipt that I am going to then put into a voting box, I should be able to check it to make sure I voted for the people I said I was going to vote for...if it is wrong, I should be able to change my vote and print another receipt.
Yeah I agree. I wouldn't mind so much if I had to sync, but I was thinking today that I'd really like to be able to download this info and back it up. I hate relying on external source to preserve my data.
I mean what would I do if someone hijacked my account and got me banned....poof there goes my data?
Google should get behind this. I think their Picasa would benefit from it.
Generate some autotags.
What would be nice also is if they had a feature where if you labeled someone in a picture, if you uploaded another picture with that person in the picture, the program would prompt to auto tag.
I've been going through old family photos and it would save so much time if the programs I am using autolabeled based off details in the picture.
Arranged marriages wouldn't be enough. One would have to restrict grounds for divorce and it would be best if one of the couple were a stay-at-home.
Divorce rates correspond nicely to the rise in women's wealth...people have options to look around when they have resources. Also the rates of women cheating are rising.
I'm sure I trust the government to not mishandle my passwords...such as logging in and sending sexually violent emails from me to another person in the system.

we already have compared to other primates....
or better yet, set the auto on/off to be your work hours.
I prefer mine to automatically turn off when I leave work and not turn on until I get to work.

He was his own person before this election.

Would it be by lottery?
Perhaps, you buy your way?
Convict Volunteers?
Perhaps we won't require any health testing to see if someone would survive the journey. After all, if they die in transit, they are extra provisions.

Back in the 70s the FBI stated that 99.8% of the US population has committed some crime that is worthy of jail time....
With this new IP Czar, the powers that be apparently wanted to nab that last .2%.
Well...people could be paid to plant them. Yeah, I know that trees can do this on their own....but can they do it in nice neat rows?
Trees can't do nice neat rows...but we can have a crew to come through after and cut down all the ones that are out of line.
and rather than hauling it off, they'll just burn the wood in nice carbon piles.

Not that I'm interested in doing this yet because I'd like to see what is already on the planets in our solar system....however
If they could last long enough in space, we could launch them at planets with the purpose of converting the planets to something more habitable.
I think the really good targets for this would be planets with water...Mars...some of Jupiter's moons....etc.
