I don't recall the ATI drivers ever being supported.. it was always a "they'll be out in like 6 months after the product release.. maybe" I don't really think they care for supporting linux. And the fact that their drivers are not that good is going to hurt them in terms of competition with NVidia.. Even though Nvidia's drivers are closed they at least reagurlary update and support them and they work really nicely too.. Driver quality unfortunatly are more important that power.. Even if the ATI cards are faster if the drivers suck it's not going to be worth it as you won't GET that high performance..
This would be going against the "Software Choice" campain that is being promoted through the Initiative for Software Choice organization.. So is this organization not really promoting what they say they are?
It was like this last night at midnight EST.. when I started trying to install it... 12 hours later it Still refuses to download the RedHat 7.3 channel data.. I have put a bug report in their bugzilla as it's they don't have mirrors for any of the "OS specific update" channels apparently.. (really unwise IMHO).
And they have been around MUCH longer than the patent filing date of 1998!
Go download an old version of netscape prior to 1998, or a copy of lynx proir to 1998.. Type in a URL location of say.. "theregister" (example in the article.) the browser searches.. theregister.com, and it it's not found, theregister.org, and theregister.net....
well, for LOTR, the DID announce that they were going to be releasing a 4 disc set before the 2 disc set was released.. Heck they anounced that while it was still in theatres..
True, but according to the wired article NWN does fall into their definition of vaporware.. as "it's not shrikwrapped".. but then NWN for linux won't be shrinkwrapped, it'll be "downloadable". It's a nice vague gray area:-D
well, actually this has happened.. But ONLY if you use the latest "official" winblows version of AIM.. and only from AIM to ICQ.. But who uses that anymore... GAIM Baby!!! Can't wait until the GAIM guys add that feature in..
I KNOW that.. But he also claimed it would be nice if trillian had a way to send someone a message as soon as they logged in, which it does.. I Use ICQ as well and really like that feature.. and it's annoying that non of the other IM services have it.. (I don't Jabber has it either)
Setting a Buddy pounce will send a message to the user when they come online.. Not exactly what it's called in Trillian, but I KNOW i've done it in tillian when I used it for a bit..
Yup, if sites want to go and put this *crap* on their site to prevent users using mozilla or galeon, or using popup blockers, or using earthlink!!. then fine. but they will start losing a LOT of visits to their sites..
Mozilla/Netscape 6/7 uses sun's JVM.. And the code gets applet gets loaded in a popup anyway.. so it doesn't load in mozilla if you enable the popup blocker..:-D But yeah.. it's an M$ IE Messed up JVM thing..
They keep ignoring reasonable requests for feature enhancements that every other mail client supports, but in "Ximain's mind" you shouldn't do that.. For example, being able to "chroot" your mailbox tree if you are using, say, a cyrus Imap server and all your mail is under INBOX. or a WU-FTPD and all your mail is under mail/.. well no longer is it supported in Evolution 1.2. You mail folders will appear as subfolders under INBOX. or mail/ so it looks REALLY awkward to use..
the other one, is a use that my brother needs, as currently they use Outlook and Exchange.. and he's wanting to move to Cyrus (as it's SOO much faster and easier to backup and repair when a server goes down, and they have like 10GB of shared folders)
and he has to use outlook on his system (he works at home) as he can't use Evolution because you can't edit existing message and resave them. Which they do, as they store documents and stuff in the Shared folders.. But ximian REFUSES to add that feature as they say "mail is read only"
But It's not a mail client, it's an outlook clone.. which is MORE than a mail client.. and collaboration software.. and part of collaborating is being able to EDIT things!!!..
well that's some of my rants about ximian..
There's plenty more, but that's on a different topic and for another day...
Yup you read that right... I have 3 gateway computers (120MHz to 150Mgz each) as legs to my desk, with a small desktop computer ontop of two of them and my monitor above that.. Then a APC UPS on the other gatway with a board lain atop them both to place my speakers, keyboard, mouse, and the many Piles O' Stuff (tm) (cds, zips, game manuals,etc..)
I have a picture on the 'net, but I don't want my dads 384Kbit uplink to be slashdotted..(sorry, but it's a business connection)
Oh yeah.. Almost forgot.. I have a number of the 6" Tux suffies around the desk as well..
The last paragraph in the article says it all..
The record industry could lose a fortune if people stop buying CDs and make their own copies. Halderman reckons he has a solution for them. "Reduce the cost of new CDs; if discs cost only a few dollars each, buying them might be preferable to spending the time and effort to make copies or find them online."
The difference between the 929.png and the 930.png are the character spacing.. If you notice there is MUCH better spacing in the second picture.. as opposed to the first picture where the letters are all scrunched up.. Hence the second shot is significantly easier to read than the first.
It has to do with motorola.. My dad works for a company that buys chips from them.. and lately morotola has well, "not been friendly" and been pissong companies off.. So this looks apple is fed up with dealing with Motorola.. and anyway.. I'd rather have a risc on my desktop than that stupid x86 processor.. (Go Alpha!!!!)
Dud I loved this game back in the day... Though currently the Atari is OutOfOrder (The only game console i've ever owned, well unless you count the semi-broken dreamcast that I got for free.)
One of the Reagal theatres over here in IL has one IMAX screen.. and they play normal movies on it when they aren't playing IMAX movies. It's pretty sweet.. It's still pretty sweet to see the movie on the REAL big screen with a very decent sound system..:-D.
well, it wasn't that it was going to be difficult or take a long time... It's that M$ wanted to MILK the game for everything they could so they could get people to by their X-Box..
The Cygwin ESD does work.. but it only plays sounds from programs that support ESD... and if you enable the -tcp and -public args when you start it on the cygwin box.. you can have other computers (unix or cygwin) play sounds on the box runing esd.. Though this doesn't really help if you want to redirect sound from NORMAL windows programs..
What are they waisting their money on to have it cost 22 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!

And pretty much every web browser out there..
..

I can see it now.. The movie stops half way through with a BSOD and a message saying "Projector hardware has been changed, Re-Activation is required.
well, for LOTR, the DID announce that they were going to be releasing a 4 disc set before the 2 disc set was released.. Heck they anounced that while it was still in theatres..
So I held out for the 4 disc set..

The more these studios create these STUPID copy protections schemes, the less people are going to buy their garbage..
They only going to end up "shooting themselves in the foot".

There is a bug report.. and there was a LARGE discussion about it.. But ximian said no..
I post bug reports for everything..
