Thats the problem. The market needs Software Engineers that were trained as Software Engineers, not Software Engineers trained as Scientists. The why both approach and solve problems are completely different. I'm not saying CS people can't solve problems, but its the SE that know what problems the solutions create.
But, I think the difference should be similar to a physicist and a engineer. When the engineer specializes in practical application of the science, and the physicist researches the science.
A computer scientist researches and develops sorting algorithms. A software engineer knows which one to use when.
A salary is not the only way to take income in as an S-Corp. Yes, you do have to take a salary, and pay income and FICA, but you can also take profit distributions that don't have FICA. You can also pay your salary once a year to reduce the paperwork.
But compared to a 1099 there are way more filings. Federal, State, and Local for personal and business, for taxes, unemployment, FICA. Most are quarterly. So yea, I do know what I'm talking about.
Your right, you don't need an accountant, but if you screw up a filling your going to be dealing with the tax problems forever.
I'm an S-corp and there are huge benefits in tax write offs compared to filing as a 1099, but filing as an S-corp sucks, an you will need an accountant. I would go to an S-corp as soon as you think you are making enough to pay and accountant about $1k a year or are buying or spending good money on anything that could be considered work related, i.e. computers, cell phones, car expenses. You may just want to consult an accountant on the decision as they can tell you the exact benefits after looking at your situation.
Any one can wave their right to a trial by jury. Having a jury decide a patent is like throwing the dice. Companies perhaps wouldn't mind a sophisticated arbiter.
Republican internet freedom is freedom for large corporations to do what ever they want, with the citizens getting the shaft. You can forget net neutrality out of them.
I'm assuming its not a university or a college. If thats the case you need to be 18 to have a facaebook account acording to their ToS. So, no kids should need to get to facebook.
I would be all for this if the computer would take over once it determines you are driving too slow in the fast lane and blocking traffic. Maybe there can be 2 modes, emergency take over, and 'Nag' mode for when the computer determines your acting like a selfish asshole.
I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure computers are landing airplanes with the pilots overseeing the process.
I also find it hard to believe that a computer cannot get better at driving a car the most people. Sure there are emergency situations the require extreme skill and judgement calls, but how many people are good in those situations? I have seen many drivers who react 100% wrong in dangerous situations. They don't understand the dynamics of the car and get confused in a panic. Computers don't have this problem.
I have been in many start-ups, inside and outside of the valley. I have never seen an H1-B in a start up. They are the domain of large corps like Microsoft or IBM.
The H1-B visa program is BS. Its point is to provide sub market price labor to large companies. Every one of those jobs could be filled by americans, but they would cost more.
Even if your storage passes the test, it could fail the next day. What you should be doing is designing your storage to gracefully handle failure, like RAID 5 with spares.
I wonder how much more they would have made if Oracle didn't rip them off. I dont count CentOS though. The vast majority of people using CentOS either can't afford Redhat or will move up when they can.
