Likewise, I spent 2 weeks overseas with the MD of a gold mining company. Among many other tales, he asserted that it would be simple to replace up to 2/3 of a laptop battery with enough explosive to bring down a plane, and still have plenty of power left to operationally boot the laptop to Windows login if required...
He also said that the scanners frequently pick up residue on his shoes from chemicals used on the mine site (eg arsenic, not to mention explosives), so someone could easily use that as an alibi.
I'm not complaining about the news / not news content of this, but it's at least 3 days old (for us here in Oz, even on the other side like I am). What's happened to/.'s timeliness?
So, what's the deal here - have they pretty much abandoned the old "odd minor releases for development, no new features in stable versions" plan, or what?
I hold my mouse left-handed, but I leave the buttons set for right-hand (hence right-click is with my index, and left-click with middle or even ring)...
There was also an episode in The Outer Limits (the new one) called Think Like A Dinosaur, which was based on a short story of the same name.
Idea was that an alien race had developed a transportation method to send people to other planets, but the actual procedure was to make a duplicate of the person at the other end, and then kill the original (so there was only one).
Was a bit of a problem when one day they failed to receive confirmation that the person had been cloned at the far end...
Oh come now, you're not even trying! Between Manos: The Hands Of Fate, Monster A Go-Go, and The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!?, MST3k has you all beat:-P
(And yes, I rather liked the Lost In Space film - certainly no worse than any Michael Bay stuff. Yes, this includes Transformers.)
And as far as I can tell, the only reason Google is everywhere that Microsoft wants to go is because they see what Google does, and want to emulate that. This seems reactive, and is a sure way to lose your way.
But as this post pointed out, that's all they've ever really done...
clone, n: 1. An exact duplicate, as in "our product is a clone of their product." 2. A shoddy, spurious copy, as in "their product is a clone of our product."
Uh, from TFA: "Sequestering it is only slightly better than dropping it, because you have to look through the sequestered spam, and most people don't bother."
I'm reminded of the very insightful closing sentence of Judge Jackson's Finding of Fact document way back when:
The ultimate result is that some innovations that would truly benefit consumers never occur for the sole reason that they do not coincide with Microsoft's self-interest.
"Caprica" will be set more than 50 years prior to the events of "Battlestar Galactica" and focus on the lives of two families -- the Adamas (ancestors of future Galactica commander William) and the Graystones.
Colour me uninformed, but who exactly are the Graystones? Or are we not supposed to know or care at this point?
(Disclaimer: I haven't seen season 2 yet (not on here in Oz) so if it's all explained there, just say so... no spoilers please.)
Amen to that... and software, too. My favourite case in point, Dark Reign. Great game, which I was hoping to finish one day (I could only get up to level 6 or so), but guess what? The installer demands DirectX 3.3 or somesuch. Doesn't care that you have DirectX 9 already installed, and of course they won't co-exist...
If anyone knows a way around this they will have my eternal gratitude:) (All right, I admit it, I haven't Googled yet...)
I may actually add "describe your home network setup" to my list of interview questions. I'd never thought of it, and it tells you a lot about people, it seems.
The Network Admin position I was interviewed for just yesterday had it (well, "draw").

Or hunter2?
It's like whoever designed the religious laws somehow knew about germ theory hundreds of years before anyone else.
Indeed He did.
Yes, because men were "travelling to and fro across the earth", and "knowledge was increasing", in those days. Unlike today.

OSC pointed this out a year ago (at least the focus aspects). I couldn't agree more...

And on a related note, how configurable is it?

I bags Kiloquads...
The version I used to have was: "Do not meddle in the affairs of sysadmins, for they are quick to anger and have not need for subtlety."
It seems to me that we have special places to put people who rape their daughters.
That would be the Special Hell. Along with people who talk in the theatre. :)
I really don't know what to make of the Facebook ads... I get the eHarmony ones too, and I've been listed as Engaged for 9 months now. :-/

Um... what's so hard about working out which physical disk /dev/sdc is? You _do_ have a hardware tech on site, don't you?
/dev/sdc, which is wrong (hint: cat /proc/mdstat).
Unless you were thinking you can't determine that it is

Oh yeah? Well I'm going to invest one frillion dollars...
Looks like they've updated it now... $800-$1000.
4. Someone who can actually write IAAL
Will this guy do? :)
