um.. no.
They aren't going to be putting www.somenumber.com - that would be a standard domain.
it will likely be http://1.555.555.5555
or posibly in reverse.. like current domains..
http://suffix.prefix.areacode.countrycode
When it comes to directories.. we have a tonne of them for numbers.. it makes sense to have these same directories cross over the web with no effort. Anyone who fails to see the usefulness of this is not looking hard enough or thinking straight. This would be cool.
This could be useful in that it would compliment the current domain system. If say you only had the phone number.. or a telephone book listing that didn't have url, it would make it easier to get more information about a company or product. As well.. you wouldn't ever really run out of numbers because they are all unique area coded numbers.. could be cool but most likely will fizzle into nothing.. what if you got a girls number at the bar? you could use that to go look up her webpage or something.. hehe

let's get that shit started.. also put those poor bastards to work farming the shit..
Computer geeks don't have any fashion sense and aren't able to properly dress themselves in real life, naturally they can't do it in the virtual world either, i'm not surprised:)
Your points are valid and well thought out.
Too bad you had to be a complete ass about it.
This is a discussion, everyone participates and puts there thoughts in.. that's how this works, ass.
Yes.. I do work at Telus.. edmonton definately had problems.. they've managed to work past them, but unfortunately it was only after alot of good people left. I know, because our dept took a few of them. BC ADSL support is still top notch.. our level 1 is outsourced to a company in Nova Scotia. "OLS".
The real problem is not pay it's jsut the environment.. here in BC alot of our systems teams have jumped ship looking for better work.. taking pay cuts to work at places they think would be funner.. such as 360 networks, roundheaven etc.. we're losing alot of good people higher up the chain as well.
I sure am glad all this information age computerized crap is leaving the spotlight.. moving into the genetics age is going to be way more fun.. i was getting tired of all this typing and junk
Ahh buddy.. this is the exact essence of Slashdot.. geek stuff.. this makes all our cocks hard.. if your sitting their limp still you better start hanging around a different bulletin board. If Slashdot didn't report on this, it would cease to 'be' slashdot. News for nerds, stuff that matters. You're wearing a tie.. aren't you? I CAN SMELL IT!
Todd; Excellent coherent post, and with real world examples to boot.. many thanks.. now.. one question - I have been considering the kodak 290 but, i had one of their old cameras and the flash was offset, producing annoying shadows on the opposite side of the subject.. is this correct in the 290? I ask because, especially in the wedding photos, I still see a trace of excess shadow to the left of everything.. am I correct in assuming they still have the offset flash?
I am sure it would take two mins to come up with alternate software, the links are obviously done via software and scan codes.. they are not 'embedded in the keyboard' - so it would be easy for us to remap those extra keys, and make them do what we want.. sign up! i did.. can;t go wrong for $7.95.. unless you want a cheapo 104 key with no exta buttons..
lots of vax machines for sale here.. Vancouver Bc canada.. $100.00 a pop at the local computer bargain bin place.. from big huge ones.. to ones that resemble standard desktop pc's..
This is about racing, and having fun with electric vehicles.. I for one think this is really cool.. it always scares me that with the advent of ev's there will be no more 'garage tinkering' but this is proof that we will still be able to have our fun.. perhaps i can still build a street machine with my son in our garage just like i did with my father.. only it may just be electric.. it really doesn't matter.. so long as that whole 'experience' is there.. I for one would love to see a video of an ev doing a smoke show.. i've done tonnes of them in my iroc, but.. i've never actually heard what it sounds like to spin rubber fast enough to cause them to burn.. all i ever hear is the sound coming out of the three inch duals.. i can't even begin to imagine what a silent car sounds like roasting it's rubber.. hehe..
I'd be impressed if they were able to add microsoft.com and associated domains into the block sites list and stop my kids from seeing that, without the knowledge of the people at cyberpatrol...
aww great who let the godamn hippy's in here - they ain't got water because they aint supposed to. Natural selection my friend, natural selection. Maybe we can use their dry withered bones to make more cell phones.

Yeah.. and that softening would have worked alot better had they went with a proper canadian company. i.e. Telus, as opposed to bell intrigna.
