I can't talk about developing applications, my opinion is from a user's perspective. Never had any issues with UI or lag on my 5130v2 which, after 5 years, died by being crushed under my car's wheels. And the 105 that i got for $20 does its job as expected
It'll be sad to see the demise of nokia's symbian-based phones. For those of us who're still not using a smartphone, the symbian no-frills mobiles have the best UI and quality than anything else on the market..
Fuck off we're not your "audience", the users contribute to this site a thousand times more meaningful and interesting stuff than the hidden ads and the rest of the shit you're posting from time to time. And when everyone and their dog says this new beta site sucks, it's time to back off and apologize, not post some shitty "we hear you" message. Really change that arrogant attitude
I bet they've hired permanently some web designer and in order to justify his salary, they force down our throats a yearly redesign. I needed lots of time to adapt to the current one, but this new beta is the most shitty, generic, uninteresting layout I've seen in a long while on the web, and that includes generic, template based corporate sites. I don't know though if it's the layout or the continuous shitty stories and misleading summaries-titles that make it to the front page, that'll make me eventually abandon./. Slashdot has become the synonymous for yellow journalism in the tech field. Send your emails to feedback@slashdot.org and let your voice be heard, they won't bother reading this comment section (i doubt they'll bother read the emails too..)
Oh those Slashdot titles never cease to amaze me. He got his ass whipped for good that multibillionaire now, didn't he? I'm pretty sure after losing that match Gates was very depressed during the whole flight in his multimillion dollar jet, while heading for this multimillion dollar mansion -_-
This. As for misdirected email, i had a similar problem a couple of years back when someone decided to use my email (no real name) for his facebook account. As it seems email confirmation is optional and the guy made a full profile, added friends etc xD
I really hope this doesn't turn out to be what the 3D trend has become for movies. Contrary to other past attempts for VR headsets, now there's both the hardware and the knowledge available to build something revolutionary that actually *works*. Plus JC is on-board so expectations are very high.
First this Tips for your new laptop and then this. I have a feeling that there's more shitty noob advice to come on this site from now on..Holy crap indeed
This. Plus the device is an atrocity. Did the author of the article think he'd wear such a stupid looking thing and pass unnoticed? Now if (or when) they manage to implement this technology on normal eye glasses, it will be a different story overall
I tried enlightenment when 0.17 came out and stuck with it since then. Had a few random crashes in the past but never thought to go back to xfce etc. The only headache is fixing some missing application icons but after a point I stopped bothering
Can't we just go back to the 2000ish design? Really, please? The current design took me something like 6 months to get used to. I bet most slashdot readers don't care for any fancy looking shit, this isn't arstechnica or digg.
And certainly not for free. In most countries these series are being broadcast through channels that require a monthly or yearly subscription (i.e. satellite). Also lots of people download the episodes for their library..So, nothing new in this article
a new website for citizens to learn about transparency in intelligence agencies
A website is the absolute best way to give the illusion to your "citizens" that they're in control of something..like with that "We the people" site. Oh yes, people seem to like websites...let them click on "like" or "dislike" buttongs all day long from the comfort of their living rooms and feel they actually participate in the government and you have some happy voters
Apple seems to recognize everything that seemed to elude Microsoft's corporate thinking six years ago: namely, that even the most successful companies need to keep breaking into new categories, and keep innovating
So how is MS not doing this? Surface, win8, win RT, XBone..sure they "failed" (I doubt if this will be the case for the xbone though) but one can't say they didn't try to "break into new categories" or "innovate". The big difference is that apple has countless fanbois so they're less likely to go down so early:P
their site is home to the Big Picture, a blog with photographs from around the world regarding various events, celebrations etc..it gets updated with a new entry every couple of days, totally worth the time if you have an interest in photography
On the subject of surveillance and Google Glass, the British tv-series Black Mirror had a pretty neat episode (s01e03) titled "The Entire History of You", here's a brief description from wikipedia: Set in an alternative reality where most people have a 'grain' implanted behind their ear which records everything they do, see or hear. This allows memories to be played back either in front of the person's eyes or on a screen, a process known as a 're-do'. Very interesting concept
Have you? There's lack of regulation in Greece. Multinationals and companies do whatever they like, for example you may find a piece of furniture in IKEA for 100e while the same piece in France costs 40e and the average salary is 30-40% more. Same goes for food, electronics and other stuff. Despite the crisis everything remains insanely expensive in greece and the government is too corrupt and disfunctional to do anything about it
What's the rest of Greece's commercial broadcast media like?
same as the rest of the worlds: Owned by the rich and serving their interests by promoting political views and pressuring the government "in the right direction"

That's a nice publicity stunt though

on the contrary i think that enlightenment is supposed to be an eye-candy WM not a light weight one

The worst performers in most companies are those that are friends of the executives.
FTFY

And how did they calculate their failure rate? ie "8 out of 10 divers managed to swim unharmed through a pack of sharks..."

nobody said state-owned media are any better
