When you no longer trust your CPU/motherboard, I am afraid the only option to test them would be a hardware circuit (which can make decisions using its own CPU) specifically designed for your motherboard/processor. Which I believe only manufacturer will have access to. If you are looking for a more practical solution. The only way is to eliminate the possibility of all other hardware failing (by simply removing them or using them on a good machine) and assuming it must be CPU/motherboard issue(which means you may have to junk them both and buy new ones). And dont forget to test you power supply unit (not checking it on my old PC cost me hell a lot of hours)

  7. Re:I Smell Synergy! on IBM Researchers Working Toward Cheap, Fast DNA Reader · · Score: 1

I dont understand why guys keep picking on IBM. They made things more efficient for nazis and probably knew the holocaust was happening, much in advance of the rest of the world. I dont think they could have some how magically stopped the holocaust from happening.

I really dont understand the fuss, given that even some Nazi SS officers/scientist were honored by the US later on.

Wernher von Braun and his team of rocket scientist were among them. He was an SS officer and used slave labor in manufacturing V1, V2 missiles (V2 being the worlds first ballistic missile). He was responsible for the death of thousand of slaves who were hardly fed and also death of allied soldiers (because of his missiles). He was later praised by Apollo space program director Sam Phillips, who was quoted as saying that he did not think that America would have reached the moon as quickly as it did without von Braun's help. Later, after discussing it with colleagues, Sam even amended this to say that he did not believe America would have reached the moon at all.

I surprised people dont pick on Nazi turned Americans, while they do want to pick on American companies that made the Nazi process efficient.

PS: the above is a frank opinion, I welcome any comments pointing flaws in my opinion/argument.

For $DIETY's sake they are NOT pirated copies. Indian and Chinese editions of books are sold cheaper by the publishers themselves.

Here is an example of such a case... Distributed Operating Systems & Algorithms by Randy Chow costs $98.80 in the US, amazon offers it for $88.92 [1]. While in India I can purchase the same, marked as Indian edition, for Rs. 423 [2], ie, $8.88.

This is not just any captcha, but recaptcha. This captcha system will challenge you to recognize two words, one of which it understands and one it cannot understand. This is, indeed, a neat idea for OCR.
