  1. one factor missing I'd bet on Bug Hunting Open-Source vs. Proprietary Software · · Score: 1
Open source tends to be more of, what do I want to add or what requests am I getting for features. Also what bugs are people complaining most about. In open source once the product goes from 'beta to live/GA', bug fixes are usually security related or end up in the next major release.

Proprietary software tends to have requirements of what bugs they MUST fix. In this case once the product goes 'live/GA' users can request bugs to be fixed AFTER 'live/GA'. Not just security issues either. We usually do a few maintainence fixes, after GA because of what our users require us to do.

I also think that there is a QA issue in open source. Open source does not usually have a QA department, it has a beta period for people to find bugs. Proprietary software almost ALWAYS has a QA department or QA period where stuff is tested over and over for bugs and then these bugs are fixed.

Maybe open source needs OPEN QA!

Here are a few things you can do to prevent such back pain. First, take up walking. At least 1 mile a day. This helps because the muscles in your legs attach to your back and help stretch it out. Not sure of the mechanincs, I just know it helps me. Second, get up, off your butt at least 1 time each hour. This will a little. Funky chairs help some, but the real issue is sitting for long periods of time. Third, take up an exercise routine. Focus on your whole back. Yoga actually helps, as there are some yoga postions that are will help take pressure off your back. Search for the 'Z-position yoga', its basically a chair position, only horizontal. Lastly, get an ergonomic setup at work and practice how you sit at your computer chair. Only practice will train you. Yes the program that you mention may help you get into the proper position, but you need to practice it and be conscious about how you are sitting. Hope this helps.

Actually that 2x still applies in certain cases. For windows that space can be used to dump the contents of memory to disk with debugging information. One could nowadays use a 4Gig desktop and not use swap unless they were doing virtualization.

But yesterday the 'Boy Spammer' David Lennon, who was 16 when he electronically snubbed his former bosses, has been told by a judge that as punishment for his crimes he can't leave his house between the hours of 12.30am and 7am on weekdays, and between 12.30am and 10am on weekends, for two months."
