    Humanity without accountability.

    At least a private security firm would be accountable on the bottom line. If they were driving away customers with bad policy they'd be replaced. When a government agency does a bad job they get more money to "fix" the problems.

    VMs will eventually provide what Java always promised. Write once run anywhere, because the entire OS is encapsulated within the VM and not just the development environment. Java is still likely to even be a big part of this.

    All "non-profit" means is that the beneficiaries of the non-profit's service have no say in how they are delivered. The contributes are the only ones get to say. On the other had if a for-profit company doesn't serve your wants then you take your money elsewhere.

    Yea, I saw my neighbor yesterday and he said he had to speed most of the way home. This morning his house was hit by a drone strike and cratered his entire property. It didn't even touch my property, so the accuracy of these things is really good.

    I like the idea of a government run ISP. Think of the government efficiencies that can be gained by just avoiding all the information requests and what not and just having all data piped directly to the NSA where it can be searched and everyone made into criminals. Just like how all our healthcare data and care is now going to be at the whims of the next George Bush!

    20 years ago I was paying ungodly amounts per hour for dialup 9600-14.4k speed internet access with bills reaching $100 if I wasn't careful, now I pay around $50 month for unlimited 3m speeds, I also have the option of going cheaper but I just haven't gotten around to doing it purely out of laziness. I pay much less today for several orders of magnatude more than I did back then.

    They're not the ones demanding it, it's the other countries trying to compare against it in a some sort of dick waving contest to say they are better than the US. It's pretty lame.

    It's possible that Linux matters much, much less to the world outside than it does here on Slashdot.

    Emotionally perhaps this is true, but take away everything running Linux tomorrow and the world would suddenly find it matters a great deal.

    A car is not an investment.....

    Of course it is. Only the idiots that only count the sell price as the return on that investment say this. It is a tool that you use to get from place to place often in order to make or save more money that you possibly could without it. A car gives me the flexibility to generate large amounts of income that would not be possible otherwise.

    I almost agree with Bush except, I think he damaged the security of the government. The country is quite a bit better off.

    I also almost agree with Dick Cheney, he is a traitor to the status que within the government of obtaining more and stronger power in order to force the populace to do what the government wants with great disrespect to freedom and liberty.
