I don't think anyone is waiting for lossless codecs to get smaller, they are waiting for the hardware to get bigger. It happened to compressed formats for music in the 90s and video in the 00s, now the teens may start to see losslessly compressed formats rule.
I don't understand the protection of things within a work as a whole. A game I have become fond of DayZmod has become somewhat mainstream and is pushing to become a standalone game. A few things the mod had in it were Coke, Pepsi, mountain dew, Heinz caned beans, bottles of jack Daniels and other items you would find in a post zombie invasion. It really cuts the barrier to suspension of disbelief as you are playing. It seems these will be ripped out of the standalone.
Alone or not can they risk being tied to Microsoft where at the very least in their eyes is faltering? You seem to think there is no risk in staying with Windows for gaming. Valve seems to think there is a risk, perhaps even a large one so they are hedging their bets.
I don't understand what part of this was flash? It was no different than going from the one dimensional stream of text interface to a two dimensional windowing interface. Initially that was just used to provide multiple text consoles. This is just starting out by providing a 3d space initially to show two dimensional windowing systems until more can be developed.
My guess is it's the same idiotic idiom that produced windows systems or text interfaces. It was so much nicer when I could just flip some switches on the front then check the binary output on the front light display. Whey we need all these advanced interfaces is stupid.
Honestly I seem to run two-three interfaces any more, web browser and command line then what ever game I may be playing.
"Violent crime in New York City has been dropping since 1990.[1][2] In 2012, there were 414 homicides, the lowest number since at least 1963 when reliable statistics were first kept.[2][3] Crime rates spiked in the 1980s and early 1990s as the crack epidemic hit the city"
Seems New York was in dire straights and needed this passed quickly.
Being overly pedantic doesn't help the conversation either. Even during my 4 years in the military, part of which was serving as company armorer and where being overly pedantic was the norm, there was no distinction between clip and magazine and little difference between bullet and round.
Words have flexible meaning. To a petty little dweeb clip and magazine or bullet and round are not interchangeable. I know the difference, I suppose you know the difference. It is not significant enough of a difference to worry about it.
My guess is that poor "undeducated" person just made a quick typo that a spell checker doesn't highlight unlike the "undeducated" person that made this post and couldn't even bother to check his spellchecker.
for suicide then i'd say most of them. At least they got the outcome they were looking for. 31,578 vs 554 accidental deaths is a pretty big difference.
Strange, nearly 20 years and 10 companies as a Linux admin and Samba has always been a slight afterthought, rarely used. I always figured if it wasn't for exchange windows wouldn't even exist in the corporate world any more.
And when I see a grammar Nazi trying to derail an argument all I see is someone using a bunch of stupid itty bitty grammar rules made specifically for itty bitty people trying to make them selves feel important.
I wasn't arguing that the statistic was right. Just that it wasn't made up on the spot. It was based on the available data. That is all you can base any statistic on.

I'd mod you funny, but it's always hard to tell when a mac fanboi is serious.

New car tag line, "Our brakes suck, but the acceleration blows."
Actually it was to focus on getting an MBA...ohh wait, that's what you said.
I'm not quite dead yet. Think I'll go for a walk. I'm so happy, SO HAPP....<thud>
That's how much they would have saved in discounts. It would have cost them a hell of a lot more, but the savings were there.

Can i get a refund on my carbon credits then?
Government conspiracy or not it is being used to take guns away. Period.
Interestingly I found:

The Republican idea of small government is as big as it can be while only being slightly smaller than the Democrats what it to be.

As long as it hurts the oil companies it's a good thing.

What gun problem?

You're smart person is going to look pretty dumb when he encounters and angry dumb person with a gun and a motive.

It wasn't taxed or inflated, it was borrowed at ~5% and then loaned out at 14%. it was pure profit for the government.
