It was my understanding it takes quite a bit of processing to produce table sugar. (IE filtering, adding chemicals, boiling, recrystalization.) IE you don't get nice white crystals with out at least some treatment of the stuff. (You get brown loaves instead.) You don't have to treat honey quite that much. Oh, and of course I've left out HFCS which chemically is closer to honey than sucrose. (Although honey I think has some maltose in it and trace amounts of nutrients.)
Since we have so many complaints about the for profits. I went to a major american university.(Supposedly a top 50 in the world but I'm not buying that.) I guess I could point out I started out in orientation taking a calc and physics placement test. I did excellent on the physics test(which was basically repeatedly asking me if I got Newton's first law, yeah because I've watched Mr. Wizard) and lousy on the calc test. So of course they put me in the freshman physics for physcist majors even though calc was a pre-req. That didn't turn out well. (Since it was basically an applied math course.) I probably should point out that the only thing the university actually managed to accomplish with me was to drive crazy and literally make me mental ill with their antics. I managed to graduate in spite of them but they had done such a huge amount of psychological damage that I was basically unemployable for years.(Honestly I was a mess after they were done with me a spit me out.) Lets just say a BA from them wasn't worth very much and what was more noticible was the years of unemployment in the years immediately following graduation. Oh and just to twist the figurative knife they shoved in my ribs they sometimes send mailings asking for donations or very rarely call. I'm thinking the next time they call I'll say the following "To quote the former vice-president go fuck yourself."
Don't forget naturalism. You know, where something is good for you because it's natural vs. made of chemicals. I'll probably get modded down for this but didn't the first lady advocate replacing unhealthy sugar with healthy honey? (Yeah, it's just sugar too. Hell, it's mostly a mixture of fructose and glucose.)
In the original posting? I mean I was all ready to type up how terrible this was and a school over steping their bounds but then I actually read the article. There's a world of difference between saying things like I hate my teacher or he/she is a moron and he/she is a pedophile.
I'm paraphrasing Space Balls. You mod me down for that? What, are you pissed because somebody made a movie making fun of Star Wars? God, you guys live up to my signature and that's just sad.
The one about talking to yourself.
You don't have to worry about the guy who talks to himself. Worry about the guy who is arguing with himself, especially if he's losing.
Same hold for talking to a computer.
Since one of them goes around with that chart that shows half of spending is military. Of course which ever one it is doesn't stress he's talking about discretionary spending which is part of the budget because it ruins the story line. If you do total government spending military, social security, and medicare are all about 20% each.
the school I got my BA from. The president thought it was reasonable that students study 10+ hours a day. (I don't remember how many hours he thought we should study on weekends. Before anybody asks, yes this was a major US school and not some for profit scam place.) Yes, everyday for years. I didn't actually study that much but then again the place literally made me mentally ill. (I'm ok now but it took years after I graduated before I was anything close to normal. That was not a good part of my life)
Billie Jean is an ironic song? I mean it's a song about a guy being accused of fathering some kid and trying to deny it. It's being sung by Michael Jackson, let's be honest he's definitely the guy you'd least likely accuse of doing that. (Yes, I know he had a couple of kids.)
but still users can come up with some pretty stupid ideas. I mean in my mind the most classic one was how many players of the Street Fighter games wanted throws completely removed from the game. (Including EGM advocating removal of the throw.) That would have definitely been a stupid decision if Capcom went with it. (What was even more stupid is they didn't seem to have a problem with an unblockable attack that wasn't a throw.)
something. I've got a K-Rzr and a W376g which are both Motorola phones and both need drivers to charge.I guess it could be a carrier issue though. (The K-Rzr was a verizon phone, the W376g was tracfone and both were pretty locked down.)
Because I find it annoying that motorola phones at the very least won't charge on my PC. Sure, they've got a mini-usb connector but when I plug it in the phone complains that it's not a valid charger because I don't have some driver installed. (And I can't find the right one for Win64. My K-Rzr was like that too but I managed to find a driver for it.)
By USB thumb drive and then infected other PC's on private network. That means (if true) they had a spy or 20 inside this place and that simply taking these computers off the internet (which apparently they were) wouldn't have stopped it. (I'm not sure how hard it is to infect linux with a thumb drive to be honest so no idea if that would make a difference.)
I mean that whole HFCS is horrible, you should use sucrose. The weird part is when you talk about soft drinks. (Which is usually the main thing people complain about it.) Many soft drinks (like cola) are acidic. Sucrose breaks down into fructose/glucose in an acidic solution. That means at least when it comes to soda there is little difference between HFCS and sucrose because the soda itself turns the sucrose basically into HFCS
with biology. I mean as a guy with a degree in CS when I took a bio course after I had graduated it was amazing to see how much of the concepts they were using when talking about DNA that I was already familiar with. (Let's see, DNA is digital and contains information that is executed. The data is group together in chunks similar to a byte. The information is kept stored away in a repository to protect it and has to be copied and translated out before it can be executed. The cell has to use mechanisms to load the information as well and also has error correction mechanism to protect the data.)
I mean as far as I can tell with this guy it's all a game. He's good at it though I'll give him that. Basically his deal as far as I can tell is he likes to put together a series of facts to convince you of something that is utterly not true. (You know, like the DHMO thing which consists of facts that are actually correct and paint a picture that is utter nonsense which is pretty funny.) I mean it'd be like if Rush said he wonders about John Edwards honesty and then pointed out when Edwards was younger he'd often go into restaurants and instead of paying when he was finished he'd leave when the staff wasn't looking. (BTW, this is true but it's true because Edwards mentioned eating at Wendy's. You pay before you eat and the staff doesn't give a shit what you do after you get your food.) That's the sort of game Franken plays.
Although it should also be mentioned he pretty much left the state as soon as he was 18 and didn't come back for almost 40 years to try to get a job that would require him to leave again. (Which says a lot to me about what he really thinks of Minnesota.)
Since I went to what I guess is supposed to be an elite school. (I guess it depends what you call "elite" since mine was supposedly one of the best 100 schools in the world.) I blame them for driving me crazy in my early 20's. (Admittedly undiagnosed but you didn't need to be a psychiatrist to realize I was literally mentally ill.) They weren't into that whole "Helping their students" thing so this went on for years even after I graduated.(They basically blew me off when I tried to use their help services so that was pretty much worthless.) That kind of experience I wouldn't wish on anybody, even my worst enemy.
IE they lived up to the old adage "A university is what a college becomes when it stops caring about its students." (Or my modification of that other saying "My university is a research institute that badly runs an undergrad school on the side.")
I mean my university was a complete waste of space. (Which I half jokingly refer to as Good Ol' FU. And yes, foreign language requirements have proven to be less than worthless for me.) I think I would have been better off dropping out half way through and doing anything else so it might be true for some quitting in the middle would be a good idea.(Since my degree is basically worthless. My joke is that at least toilet paper is good for something unlike my degree.) However I can understand for alot of people my situation is not the norm and dropping out would be a bad idea.(Although with the way prices on higher education are going it's worth it for fewer and fewer people.) On the other hand we are talking about young adults here. If they really need the education for whatever they could always go back. I mean a lot of colleges will let you take a sabatical. Can they do that? Take a sabatical for 2 or 3 years to see how that works out and if it doesn't just come back and finish their degree?
Yeah, I mean it's not like he called Scott Brown, who's going to vote the repeal of DADT and for emergency contraception for rape victims, a homophobic misgynist or so. Oh wait, he did do that.

life I thought you were going to say it brought beer.
