Not really. Another poster hit it when he said most IT internships are paid, but most other non-technical (goverment, law, arts, etc) are not. Even if they are paid internships, they pay just like burger flippers. It is one of the great inequities of class jumping. You scrape and work to get in and afford a college education, but then you can't get relevant work experience unless you & your family already have some $$. C'est la vie!
Someone who did this to you would not have gotten paid. Thus, I have very little doubt that they would *NOT* work for you ever again, but that would result from *THEIR* choice, not yours. People do not generally like to work without getting paid.
HA! You've never delt with the suppliers of the Big 3!:-)
Also, there are default hidden shares (I think it is scary that these are turned on by default).. for example your C drive is automatically shared. So every computer on most company LANs are sharing their C drive out.. so if anyone knows or can guess a password for that machine, presto.. C: drive access all around.
Nope. Nice FUD attempt. Yes there are hidden shares. They are also called admin shares, as in you need admin rights to access them. So no, not anybody can access these shares. The exception being everyone is an admin. In that case, you have a moron for an administrator and there is no defense against that.
Your dead on. It makes the European suggestion that they'll just "go it alone" in business all that more laughable. They hate the US but can't reconcile that with the fact that they'd be far worse off if they couldn't sell their stuff to us.
So your overall point is that competition is bad? How wrong you are. The greatest thing about athletics is the competition. That teaches you more than anything. Your problem is you are projecting competition in the extreme.
It is not that your "geek" friends aren't interested comparing their performance with others, it is just that they know they're not good at it. The stereotypical geek hatred of sports is just another tired example of that human trait of whatever-I'm-bad-at-must-be-inferior.
He knew what he was doing was wrong, he had ample warning on site letting him know what he was doing was wrong, and he did it anyway. If the government wanted to make a case and stick it to this guy, they would have a convincing arguement. The intent to tresspass was not only there, it was premeditated.
Gaining unauthorized access to an abandoned government building that was last used to store the personal hiking gear of (now ex) Los Alomos employees. Notice the reporter didn't give you any pictures or descriptions of what was inside the "top secret" shack. Not only is the govnt going to slap him for tresspassing, they'll laugh their asses off at him for his amazing recon of an abandoned structure. It's probably still top secret because some slappy in the Pentagon who's never seen the building won't sign off on declassification.
What will be interesting is if Timeline can accually get anything out of end users. The end users never bought anything from Timeline and never entered into any agreements with Timeline. Microsoft is not authorized to make agreemens FOR end users with Timeline. Timeline might have just dropped the ball in not getting the money from Microsoft.
As a pipe owner, you do get to profit from these companies selling DSL. You lease your lines. Quite frankly, it is becoming clear that high speed lines should be a public good. Now if I could only get those pesky details worked out.
No servers for you! Now your only choice will be to buy time from a responsible company that will censor you or hand you over to the Feds at the slightest provocation.
I'll agree with you to an extent, but your attitude (as well as most Slashdoters posting here) is one that looks down on games and gamers. Please step down off your highhorse a minute. The one componet that all computer users are in contact with all the time is video output. When people ask my advice in choosing/building systems, this is the one area I recomend people spend some extra money. Your eyes will thank you if you have good quality monitor and video card. Especially if you intend to game at all. $400+ may be excessive, but please don't be pissing on the majority of computer users simply becasue they use their rigs for gaming (among other things). Don't kid yourself into thinking you won't be there when your precious linux finally gets gaming software on par with windows.
Information Broker = Private Investigator. PIs won't tell you if you're under surveillance, neither will the IBs. At least we can go after them if they sell our personal information without consent.
I wonder how much that has to do with the material possibly being labled as bomb making material. I could be way off base. Anyone in the industry want to enlighten us?
The only reason I could find for attacking IIS over Apache is that it's easier
Self serving, circular agrument. By your line of reasoning, where is your proof IIS is easier to attack than Apache?
Reread my post. I did not say go to Cert to find the Open source/script kiddie connection, I said go to Cert to find who is getting attacked. You're trolling.
Re read the Courtney Love article. The big tour expenses help but the average "big new thing" in the hole. Stadium rentals, roadies, promoters, extra kick backs to promoters (don't be naive to think it isn't stadard practice), bus rentals, hotels, etc. All theses things cost big money. That money comes out of the band's pocket. The only band that consistantly profited from touring alone was Led Zepplin. And that was a long time ago, baby.
I'm not saying fade away, but Picard obliterates the other characters. Some of the experiences Picard has in the NextGen series would make for better story if someone else ran with it. I agree Stewart's charisma carries the group. They need to write Picard something more than "pensive moral dilemma."
Same thing can be said of Linux. Funny to watch the Linux community react to competition. Always fun to bring up BeOS and watch the haters wail since they realize their favorite OS is more mainstream than alt.
That's the problem with ALL the New Gen movies. They don't expand beyond their roles from the TV show. The original Trek was more successful in movies because their characters could expand and be more complex in the movie format. The New Gen characters have yet to do that. They are still impossibly perfect to the point of being dull. It would also help New Gen to let Picard fade into the group rather being the focal point of every major moment.

How is apple's picture of a common trash can unique? They are trying to patent "look and feel" again. We all know where that got 'em last time.

Mod this guy up. He is dead on target.

The cost of high speed interent access is offtopic? On a broadband story? I call shinannegins!!

The price you paid for your car won't cover the costs of the autoplant that produced it, but in aggregate...

Sure. That make 2 of us. That's what? $500/month each?

Only because with Wil's character around there was always the possiblity they'd bring back Ashley Judd.

Except that concerts in and of themselves are not usually a profitable venture. Artists tour to promote album sales.
