um, if you actually bothered to look around, the matrix website has alot more content than most movie sites. I've spent hours reading short stories, comics, production info and interviews. Perhaps it seemed like there wasn't much because you only looked at the reloaded section?

VCD is not MPEG-4, it is MPEG-1 encoded at a lower bit-rate than what DVD is encoded at. If i understand the VCD standard, it is merely a 352*240 mpeg encoded at a 1.15mbps bitrate.

And MPEG-2 is definetely not higher quality than MPEG-4. MPEG-4 can be encoded at lower bit-rates than MPEG-2 and still have better image quality. The only reason the mpeg-4 movies you have seen are filled with artifacts is that they havent been encoded in a high enough bitrate. I have seen Div-x movies encoded at DVD quality, except their file sizes balloon up to 15 megs for 2 minutes of video.

    Microsoft Technical Reports.

Most of their research is highly abstract, and rarely gets incorporated into MS software in its pure form. The problem with microsoft is that some of these really innovative technologies get mangled by the marketers and managers into something that the research is not yet capable of doing. That is why it usually takes them 3 or 4 trys before they get anything right.

Geez, you would think that on /. people would know that Sircam was not Outlook specific. I had a friend (who is rather computer illiterate) who doesn't even use outlook and stilll managed to spread the virus. Sircam doesnt just use the outlook address book for viruses, it looks through your temporary internet files for anything it seems like an email address (this is the reason why Tacoboy would whine like a sissyboy about the gigs of email he was gettign from sircam). Sircam require outlook to propogate, it had its own internal SMTp engine. Sircam was not outlook specific, merely windows specific. And i am sure that it would be really easy to make a port to linux (but i could be mistaken since i know jackshit about programming or unix). The true innovation of the sircam virus was its social engineering aspect. People are always curious to open documents, even if they know that it wasnt meant to be sent to them.

They should start offering large amounts of generic bricks and connectors of all types (especially the 1*8 beams, they are the best for designing houses and wireframe cars)

The truth is that science proved that the earth was round, and that it was not the centre of the universe.

And to be on-topic, what difference does it make that the research is funded by the federal government or provate funds? Why should the federally funded programs be expected to adhere to certain ethical standards, while private research can practically do what it likes?
