I have never been a fan of "Sim," games and have always found them to be quite annoying and boring. Network versions of these games (particularly The Sims) will add a human element that will be incredibly appealing to both hardcore Sim fans as well as people like me.
Cheer up, C++ is a portable. You're learning the basics of a language, the cross platform details aren't that important yet. So long as they aren't forcing you to write Win32 GUI programs you should be fine...

This has got to be one of the coolest things Ive ever heard. It's unfortunate that Compaq isn't taking the initiative and selling this as a preinstalled package.
