    2. About no one uses 386/486 anymore, writting a paragraph on how the pentium III are useless horsepower to run all these apps and a 386 would do fine is pointless, unless you plan to deploy a network in a 3rd world country.

    These machines are not running all of these apps, they're simply displaying them.

    I have never been a fan of "Sim," games and have always found them to be quite annoying and boring. Network versions of these games (particularly The Sims) will add a human element that will be incredibly appealing to both hardcore Sim fans as well as people like me.

    Cheer up, C++ is a portable. You're learning the basics of a language, the cross platform details aren't that important yet. So long as they aren't forcing you to write Win32 GUI programs you should be fine...
