I'll probably get slammed for this, but in countries like the US (and Canada, where I'm from), we have a lot of immigration. People come here from all over the world, and many are non-English speakers. Since we are used to having non-English speakers making mistakes in English, we are accustomed to politely ignoring those errors in the name of tolerance. I think this has a net effect of reducing the quality of English as a whole. If you go to France, and make a pronunciation mistake or some other mistake, they will let you know about it very loud and clearly, and probably quite rudely also, but I guess it helps to keep the language pure. Interestingly, I see English speakers making a lot of the same mistakes that foreigners make (right here on Slashdot too).
Not only that, but Soandso's text (to continue your example) could have been modified, added to, or cut by the Slashdot staffer who approved the story. I have a problem with people editing other people's quotes.
Yeah, but your description is boring, I wouldn't have read the article if that's what the Slashdot summary had said!;-) Fear mongering works well for Television news too.
It seems unlikely that an API programmer would have access to the main webservers to pull that off. Besides, the explotable feature has been there since Windows 3.1 (if I remember a comment from a previous Slashdot story correctly).
Haha, I mean if MS can get their foot in the door with these Mac users by allowing them to dual boot on their Macs, there is a chance these users might become Windows-only users eventually. And MS gets to sell more copies of Windows in the short term.
I think there's no reason why Microsoft wouldn't support these new Apple machines natively in Windows. MS is selling software, they don't care what hardware you run it on. Actually they have a vested interest in getting Mac users hooked on Windows, so they may well add support to allow Windows to install on these machines in hopes of selling more copies of Windows and eventually converting users away from Macs all together.
And it's good news for Mac users who will be able to dual boot between OSX and Windows.
con is short for console, in case the parent didn't explain that in enough detail. And you can read from the console using the method described above since the early DOS days.
Reminds me of an old joke: Real men program by typing copy con: myprogram.exe
The problem was Roland's submissions had nothing to do with him pimping his link on his submission - it was that his submissions were TERRIBLE,
I think Slashdot favours submissions that are somewhat contraversial or alarming in nature, it encourages discussion. Choosing what you might call "the best" submission might make for a boring website...Just a theory.
Me too. I imagine how you store them makes a huge difference. Mine where stored in a dark closet. Leaving them exposed to sunlight might have adverse effects!;-)

Marks' closed all their stores in Canada a few years ago, so it's image isn't great here (they appear to be a struggling company, I mean). I had no idea they are as big as Nike and Apple.
Also I say we should allow people to build a product that *improves* on an existing patent, while not cloning an existing product. This way the patent holder is still protected from people cloning his product, but innovation can still happen in the marketplace.
Including spelling..

They can Google for robots.txt to find out how to use it!
The 'ping' will actually be an HTTP request from your browser, not an ICMP packet.

or you could have saved your company a tonne of labour costs and have them buy you a new $10 keyboard.
And why don't you're ears pop when the door opens? Or is the entire building pressurized?
You also post on Slashdot.

Interestingly, the front page of Slashdot currently features 4 stories about Apple, and 0 about Google. Quite the turn of events!

I hear this was caused by an Excel Marco virus, only McAfee was to embarrased to admit it.
You misunderstand the purpose of "Trusted Computing". It's about software and content vendors being able to trust that you can't pirate their stuff.

I like Sweedish Kvinnor.
Looks a lot like Pac Man, actually.
Is this reversable? I don't see an option to re-register a dll using this command..
Intel spent millions developing this new slogan .. and good thing they did, or it might have sucked.
