I had to reboot after installing. Once I rebooted, in the about box (actually a web page), near the bottom it says "Google Desktop 20050818-en", so I guess this is the current version.
Wow, what a blast from the past! Anyone here from the old Commodore 64 BBS scene? Remember the Blackstar BBS program? (or was it Darkstar?).. Or the Spence BBS program? Ah, good times!:-)
Exactly. Most contracts essentially give all rights to the label, so in effect, you're working for them. You can't then go and compete against the label by selling your music through different channels (music you don't even own since you sold the rights). I'm sure you're just another pirate in the record company's mind..
Don't people read what they're singing any more? If you don't like the contract, don't sign it. Sell your stuff through your own website or something.
Me too, launces on the primary display and runs fine. I'm using a docked Dell Latitude D600, with the laptop's LCD display as my primary monitor and an external CRT as the 2nd screen.
As long as you print those 50 pages before the ink cartdige dries out.
I don't print much (a few times a year), and what often happens is that my almost full print cartridges are dried out and not usable, so those few pages I need to print end up costing $50. Anway, as you can imagine, I stopped buying ink cartridges after this happened 2 or 3 times. Now I get my digital pics printed at a photo shop, and I print my text stuff at work (save to PDF with the free program PDF Creater and email it to my work account). And my inket printer is collecting dust in the corner.
This is what I always wondered about these extortion attemps.. The money is always traceable. Even if you use paypall or something, the money has to go somewhere. Unless we're talking about a scammer in Nigeria, I think it should be pretty straightforward to catch anyone trying this.
Same goes for spammers.. They're always trying to sell something, just follow where the money's going.
Linux is no piece of crap, but it's not user friendly
User friendly to who? I use Linux to run servers and I find it very user friendly. I can modify all my config in text files under/etc over a ssh session, rather than a bunch of hard to navigate dialog boxes which can't be done over telnet, or buried in an obfuscated registry.
If you're computer illiterate, I can see how the point-and-grunt gui interface could be considered more user friendly, it's all about what the target audience is and how simple or complex the tasks are that you want to use a computer for.
Im sorry, but the word 'evil' is really being used far too much on slashdot
Are you new here? Slashdot has always used inflammatory rhetoric in the blurbs to generate a flurry of discussion, whether it was warranted from the article or not. I guess it works since most people don't read the articles, they just post based on the Slashdot blurbs.
I bought a Webcam on E-Bay once .. It had a bit of a funky odor to it. Now it's all starting to make sense!

Sweet, 290 kps! And I'm overseas in Canada! Thanks for the link!
Yeah, should I take that as an insult or a compliment? LOL! :-)
I prefer to mod people as funny when they post something serious, but wrong.
I always thought Linus was a bit saucey...
In Soviet Russia, your homework plays YOU!
But which gives the teacher more job satisfaction?
Skip that and let's go straight to building a real Jurassic Park!
And I won't even attempt a lame "In Soviet Russia" joke. :-)
Oops, dual 1541's, I meant to say.
Wow, sounds impressive! I thought my dual 1571 floppy drives and 1200 baud modem were cool! :-)

People used to post without reading the article.. Now they post without reading the headline!

Same in Canada, if you rear-end someone, you're at fault for following too closely.

Well said.
:-)
Thanks;
A Proud Canadian.
PS: Everyone knows England is not part of Europe.
Oops! You shouldn't have said that, now your comment will be deleted!
I don't know if you read the article or not, but he said this all started when he was trying to get free porn on the hotel TV.
(what SysAdmin thread wouldn't be complete without a BOFH reference!)
