Oh he could use the interview as a chance to infiltrate the Microsoft campus, then use his laptop to plant a virus into the core MS systems, and then hack *cough* crack his way to destroying MS from the inside! *manic laughter*
We in the US and Canada work many more days per year than our European counterparts, so there is some productivity gain there. Not sure how we compare to Asia, though.
I think the real reason might be to promote their VOIP/Google Talk system.
Anyway, I don't feel like giving Google my cell phone number. They already have enough info about me in cyberspace, let alone linking me to my real life identity.
Just a quick FYI for those that don't already know, Google Talk is now open to the public. You will need a Gmail account, though. You can download the client here and there is some additional info here.
I still think an IM client could be integrated into Gmail.. All they really need is online user tracking (easy to implement, lots of web forums already do this) and alerts for when users go on/off line, etc... That should just about meet your criteria.:-)
Gmail is almost IM.. With the threading of the messages and the speed of it, I've had very rapid conversations going back and forth. No video or audio mind you. But having GIM tied into GMail seems like a natural evolution. (I think I just coined a phrase, GIM, haha).
This is what the evil bit is for. All illegal files should have the evil bit turned on.
And it seems WinMX went down last week also.
Or more likely you'll be forced to run a DRM enabled Windows machine to view any content produced by the major record labels or movie publishers.
Or you could just drive it until it breaks.. I've saved a lot on unnecessary repairs over the years. (I do believe in regular oil changes, though)
I think he met the quota!
What kind of admins actually visit every PC to install patches? Not good admins.
Why did you send them your resume? Just to have something to post on Slashdot?

And no, before you ask, I'm not teaching them to use MS Access! :-)
What's a floppy?
Don't worry, they have pills for that now..
Originally it was going to be marching lemmings, but jumping penguins is so much cooler!

I think he meant Windowz, but he got the slang wrong. Kind of like when a nerdy white kid tries to act black, it's just pathetic.
Yeah, I'd break in to the house just to steal the robot and nothing else!

But that's only to pee, not much of a bad side effect..
But on a serious note, this might indicate they're deploying a new version of Gmail or upgrading something in preperation for their IM integration.
