How hard would it to come up with a fairly inexpensive device that tracts retenal movement and then can convert it to letters or commands? I would have thought that there was something out there like this now.
I've discovered that most companies that I've "contracted" with won't use the open source suggestions I give them simply cuz they can't SUE someone if things go wrong. I also state in my contract that they can't sue me for anything other than bad programming and for them to prove that! Ha!
It's dead when developers who develope Linux Server applications during the day run Windows XP at home at night. Or the BEST ISP who's heads use Linux for the ISP part but use Windows for their accounting... not to mention for all their HOME needs.:(
Linux as a desktop option for the DUMB masses of the world won't EVER work... Hell Windows for the dumb masses of the world doesn't work now either!
Knowing this I will now buy Harry Potter. Not that I plan on dupping copies for friends (hell I've got none) but for the plain fact that I think WarnerBrothers is realizing that a few people making copies isn't hurting it's business but boosting it. How many future sales will they see of a pirated copy? Lets say I do make a copy and give it to a friend who's got kids (also imagine they haven't seen the movie & don't know much about it). His kids then want to go out and get all the Harry Potter junkets that have been liecensed by WarnerBrothers, visit the official harry potter website and sign up for their newsletter which the WB will then use to market more WB/HP chotchkies. They then want to be the first in line on November 15th to see the 2nd movie and so on and so on. So by saving the inital 5 cents per copy they loose $20 on a single sale of a video but in return gain an untold amount from future sales. And while I'm at it... most people rent video's for $5 anyway and I don't know many people who copy them.
How long will it take for one of their "compliant" boxes to be reversed engineered and a 30-60-90 second skip function added? Maybe a month? The firmware will be on a flash chip. Now as for AOL Timewarner you're going to start seeing a lot more product placement ads (ie:Spiderman & Dr. Pepper (PepsiCo)) and Rosie O'Donald & her Wendy's salad. Not that this is anything new, but were going to start seeing more of it.
Umm... well Maybe I won't... I don't own a TV or a Tivo or any of those "advertainment" devices. I choose to IGNORE all advertising... even though I work in print media and my livelyhood depends on ads.
Didn't I see something about how SNK was discontinuing opperations? And why are these games SOOOOOOOOOOO expensive? It's no like Street Fighter is that new!
Come on folks. Don't buy Nike! The maximum profit machine that is Nike will steal jobs from the USA steal the lives of workers in indo china and turn around and sell a crappy product at 4000-5000 profit margins! So don't be like Mike don't wear shoes made by slaves.
Well if BDE is being so sneaky and slick about this SNEAKWARE why don't we bite back? We need to reverse engineer the Alt Net protocols and the BDE drivers on the windows system, figure out whats going back and forth between a users computer and the AltNet and then send FAKE information, and corrupt datapackages! Next spread this program all over the web and give people some sort of reward like uninstalling the the Kazaa Spyware crap in a simple 1 click.
How long do you think it'll take for the folks at AltNet to change something in their protocal? How much will it cost them? How much credibility will their data have to the advertisers if it's been poisoned?
Man... if there's one thing I truely hate about the place I work at is the amount of time the common non IT person spends surfing the web and playing games on the clock! What really urks me is when these dolts come to me and tell me that they have found this awesome page and that I (seeing that I'm a web developer) should check it out... only to find that it's some stupid ass clcok (www.humanclock.com) that they thought was neat-o. Nothing like having capitolism derailed by Wally cuz he thought he saw a wood chuck! Great... now get back to work and your name is now on the term list should I ever be asked by HR who I THINK SHOULD BE FIRED!
A few months back Machine Design magazine did a good article on the coming of Nano technology. It's on their website at http://www.machinedesign2.com/turnstyle.php?ID=100 0... and pretty much gives a good 50,000 foot view. Only draw back is that it's in PDF again.
I've been off Telocity for 4 months now and still have this thing sitting next to my desk in it's original package. I had to jump though hoops to get them to "cancel" my service since they never did truely contact me about a new provider. I had to send them an email about leaving, I had to then call them back 3 times, I then had to wait and I continue to wait for the airbill. I'm not worried about them charging me $500 becuase the only credit card number I gave them is now closed.

Dear Telocity Customer,
We are writing with some urgent and unfortunate news about your DSL service.
As you may know, NorthPoint Communications installed the DSL line to your
home. A bankruptcy ruling involving the sale of NorthPoint's national DSL
circuit network has been concluded. The winning bidder who purchased
NorthPoint's national network has decided to suspend its operations
immediately.
This unexpected event will most likely mean you will lose your DSL
connection within the next week, but we are working hard to transfer you to
another carrier as quickly as possible. (If you are unsure if this affects
you, please check the wall jack into which your gateway is plugged.
NorthPoint wall jacks are labeled with "NorthPoint.")
We wanted to inform you right away and to assure you that we are doing
everything we can to minimize disruption for you.
TELOCITY IS ALREADY TAKING STEPS TO MINIMIZE DISRUPTION
Telocity is working around-the-clock with other line providers to enable you
to resume service as quickly as possible after that time. Depending upon
how the NorthPoint network is suspended, you should be able to access your
Telocity account for the next five to seven days.
TELOCITY WILL TRANSFER YOUR LINE TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT PROVIDER
Telocity must transfer you to another circuit provider in order to resume
your service. We will take care of this entire process for you. You do not
need to do anything at all to activate this process. We will place your
order with another circuit provider by the end of today so your service is
resumed as quickly as possible. It will take approximately 4 to 8 weeks to
transfer your service to another line provider.
You will Not be Billed for Disruption of YOUR SERVICE
You will not be charged for Telocity service during those times when your
service is interrupted as a result of the NorthPoint bankruptcy. When
your account is resumed, Telocity will provide you a credit for one month of
service at no charge.
YOU CAN ACCESS YOUR EMAIL
You can continue to access your email by going to

We Will Keep You Constantly Updated
We will continue to contact you through the postal mail service with regular
updates. We have also established a special Web site and 800 number to

to serve you.

Yeah... about 3 years ago I saw some fucking stupid movie with my girl friend of the time... it was called "Home Page"... It was a terrible docu-geeker about Justin Hall. Some zero nobody who got outta the gate first with the web and was a little more respected than most techno zeros. Anyhow... I have to hand it to him the movie did make me goto his web page if not to check it out then to see the nude pix of his girl friends... muahahaha.. So anyway... the link is
and it's been around since 1994!! Well thats according to NSI.com... so wouldn't Slashdot be considered one of these Bloggers? what a fucking waste of time if you ask me...
another lame attempt to put the genie back into the bottle.
As long as there are people trying to protect music/code/games/porn whatever with code there will be people who will defeat them. Laws in the US mean nothing in Canada or Russia. IMHO I believe it is time to see more indie labels rise up and take the reins from these so called Music professionals. Look at what sound scan did to the industry! If it wasn't for the industry installing sound scan at the retail level they would have never noticed that Nirvana was selling and the Hooters weren't.
VTOL car! Wooah... But considering that I see 2-3 accidents a week in front of my apartment I don't think the FAA is going to be granting licenses any time soon. A 350mph collision vs. 35mph collision... umm... I'm still taking the bus.
Now why is the FCC involved? Don't they have enough to do with people pirate cell phones?
How hard would it to come up with a fairly inexpensive device that tracts retenal movement and then can convert it to letters or commands? I would have thought that there was something out there like this now.
well guess I'm failing my next tech interview... either that or it's way to fricken late. I couldn't answer 1 of those dumb things...
Yeah but they also shot McKinley

THEY'RE NOT LEGO PEOPLE! The polically correct term is "MiniFig". Please refer to them as such since "Lego People" is a demoralizing term.
