As a marketer I can tell you that we have been doing this in one way or the other for the last 50 years or so... the only thing interesting here is that they're doing it with more advanced algorithms. This is stuff we had in the basic course of consumer behavior. The only real difference is that today you OFTEN do these studies in person instead of having computers to do it for you. Results and findings will most probably be the same from this as it is from regular observation studies.
Besides, when doing observation studies the point is not to disturb consumers so they are usually done from a surveillance room or such to monitor consumers movements. Marketers are very seldom interested in individual interactions but when consumers do stand out from the norm it's good to have the possibility to interact with said consumer.
I see this as a possible solution for very large shopping centers and their likes but I don't think there's anything special about this thing in particular.
you can buy them at almost every other electronics store. A google search for Parrot RC drones will give you tons of hits for places where you can buy them.
Oh cry me a river. You Americans always seem to be whining about high gas prices.
Currently you pay around 3.23700 U.S. dollars = 2.4172952 Euros per gallon 1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters.
So that's around 60 cents per liter. Come back when the gas price is over 8 USD/gallon like it is in large parts of Europe or around 1.60 euro/liter.
We Europeans have no sympathy what so ever for you suffering from "high" gas prices.
The quality of Slashdot articles and what they cover is really going down hill. The only reason this article got here must have been because the SKA uses the name "TheSkyNet project". Short response, WE DON'T CARE! We've had SETI since 1999. Not to mention that there's more "important" stuff to spend the computing power on such as Folding@Home.
I hope this will allow us to integrate electronics into the clothes in a better way. It's also in accordance with the FOTM sustainable development since it's all natural and probably bio-degradable. Hope they get a lot of $$$ to continue their research in the area.
"How would you rate the ease and cost of immigration to industrialized countries in mainland Europe for a U.S. citizen who isn't yet fluent in a language other than English but is willing to learn?" This is quite off topic but I'd say it's pretty easy to go to any country north of France where they actually speak anything but the local language (yeap i'm stereotyping here). In Finland where i come from we have quite a few international companies with english as the working language. I guess that goes for all major international companies in Europe. So if you got skills wanted for a position at a company in Europe i wouldn't say there'd be any problem migrating:)

In my opinion this is pretty similar to the schemes we have in Finland. Sonera, DNA and ELISA all have different schemes to provide easy Internet access to people and they've had it for a couple of years at least by now. However, they are all subscription type deals where you commit yourself to the deal for 12-24 months, then you can get a computer as cheap as 24 euro/month + 10 euro for the internet connection (incl usb-stick) and as a bonus you get 3 months of Spotify premium... or something like that;)
certain isotopes of gases which would be great for use in fusion chambers are found in "abundance", compared to on earth that is, are found in the moon soil. Some very rare metals can also be found on the moon.
But i don't think space travel is energy efficient yet for another 10-15 years at least for those ventures to be economically viable.
The Two Suit was one of the subjects of History Channel's The Universe "Sex in Space" documentary. They only demonstrated it in a zero-g aircraft but it seemed to potentially work there and it think it would be easier to use the suit in space than in the aircraft. That sould take care of the sex-part at least:)
that's a very good question! the device is designed so that you never have to move the "roll" more than a centimeter or two to get across the screen. So if you face yourself with having it at one end of the device you can move it to the middle, or the other end if you feel like it. This will "reset" it. It's actually a rather well thought through device.
But printed charts and manuals don't have an 8-10 hour battery time ...

In Finland Sony lost this battle and were judged to pay damages to everyone with the 1st gen PS3s that were affected.

What could possibly go wrong?

You think they could at least have made a WP blog or something :)

Did you pay royalties to Apple for using that term?

i've seen something that looks exactly like that in offices across the country for many years ...
