    I was on the road very early this morning and I was very happy to say I avoided around 10 frogs enjoying the warm pavement. Automated cars should be even better at it than I am.

    First, you have to QA the silicon in all of the ambient environments

    I beg to differ, Elon's style seems to be to half-ass it and then tell his customers to use at their own risk.

    C was the first modern language I learned (though I may be showing my age) and I liked it fine. If you really need the speed and control that's the way to go. It would be terrible for a web framework though. You might squeak out a little bit more performance with C but you're going to cost yourself a lot of time coding those details. If I just want to make a page that displays a table with some options today, and then add more options tomorrow, and then add a detail page with the options, high level is the way to go.

    I'm both a developer and I hire developers. For anyone trying to figure out which language to learn, I can tell you I hate to hire the ones for the top languages because they are so in demand.

    You want the code reasonably formatted, but you complain when you have to format it reasonably. Make up your mind.

    Why wouldn't checking types be the first thing you do? Also, why wouldn't you name your variable something like first_giraffie and then never assign anything else to it?

    While the car is stationary or while the car is in park? Those are two different things. Where I live, you can't use a phone when stopped at a stop light, you shouldn't be able to use built in Atari games either.

    Musk would have to be stupid to think people would heed his 'warning' that they should not play games while driving.... so he disabled the games when the car is out of park, like every navigation console I have ever used in every other vehicle, right? It would be laughably simple for him to do. Any less and he is just daring people to play while driving.

  13. Getting a job is really only part of the battle. You actually have to get one that you can stand day in or day out or you're not doing any favors. Become a plumber? Sure, some people don't mind kneeling in muck or working with shit. But 'surprise' some people don't.

    Cars don't even matter any more. Ford stopped selling all but two of them.

  17. Wireless headphones have to be charged every night. I don't want another thing to charge, and I don't buy expensive electronics with disposiblity built in. I have a family with lots of devices and we have enough to charge already.

I'm really tired of this "fuck you, you can make your life more complicated for the sake of technology" mantra. Technology is supposed to make our lives simpler, ESPECIALLY Apple. That's why they get paid the big bucks, after all.

  20. A lot of people (myself included) like to plug in if they are sitting at a desk, period. Why take the chance of running out of battery later in the day? Maybe you're going to go home and go for a run and you need almost a full charge to run the GPS. Also, I listen to audio books at night.. So when to charge then?

    We DO expect them not to commit crimes. The whole legal system is set up to discourage people from committing crimes. You can set up as many teen drop-in centers and neighborhood police picnics and basketball games as you want, people will commit crimes. The best thing you can do is keep as many people as possible from getting desperate enough to convert to a criminal.

    There is no way 'guaranteed jobs' can work. There are many people that simply don't want to work. What do you do? Send the police after them and force them to be present? Then it becomes a problem for whomever is charged with making sure they are productive. The only thing you can be sure of is that people will take free money that they don't have to do anything for, UBI is the only way to go.
