I've been in the exact same shoes for four years now. There is such a thing as doing your job too well. If you do your job better then everyone else, why would they want to let you leave that job? My job is 80% IT, but I'm stuck with a title that reflects 20% of my actual job. When I expressed interest, they said you need at least a couple years working in IT. I've been here over four years, but since I didn't have the #)*$$ title, it didn't matter. I've sinced learned that hard work doesn't pay off at said company and am enjoying my time much more. =)
You raise a couple good points. However, 90% of these bots were eggdrops, which were run off of *nix and NOT Windows. Many *Nix boxes were spoofed. I'm sure recently, that number has changed, but I'm sure that bot net still consists of mostly *nix shells with strong network connections. There is a lot more stability if it is running as a process on a *Nix based shell. The ideal eggdrop bot would be running off an isp with t1 or t3 connectivity. I've accessed, them, but never ran one. If I was to run one, I wouldn't even consider using windows. I am not a Linux advocate by any means, but this is just how it is.
Bot net is nothing new. I have had access to and have seen this army of compromised irc bots, it is called Bot Net. It has been around for years, used mainly for disconnecting enemy script kiddies to take over their channels back in the days. It is downright amazing the power of these bots. A good network of them would eliminate your average target in just seconds. One command is all it takes to have thousands of separate network connections from all over the world ping flood the address with huge packets. Therefore, it is also virtually impossible to trace.
I've actually seen people putting ads in our want ads at work because they just couldn't bring themselves to throw a perfectly good cd away. You'd be suprised, but to the clueless, its a good campaign. Especially with the clueless obviously being their target market.
This is the problem. It varies store to store. I went into Circuit City and they were about.60 cents per disk. I went next door to OfficeMax and they had deals that put them at about.15 cents per disk. Just make sure to look around for the deals, they are out there.
The perfect way to find the best deal is to go on irc/efnet and go into the #cdr channel. Ask them where the best place is at the moment to buy cds. You will get an instant response. They always seem to know.
I have a dell laptop, and whenever I convert this 100 page document to a pdf file, It starts to smell like something is burning. I can be working all day and it will be fine. Kinda scary.
I used to do that, and it definitely does help. That is until your idiot family or friends sign you up for free offers thinking that there is actually something to them. AhhH!!!! I'm still mad at my brother for giving out my e-mail address. Why can't he just send me the url?!? SCream!
So whose fault will it be if they end up shooting up their school? Obviously it couldn't be yours.
Don't take this the wrong way, and it does sound like they are trying to do the best for their kids, but this goes right along with the reasoning of the morons that are filing this lawsuit, Just remember they're 4 and 5, they have plenty of time to screw things up yet
Even if they (the shooters) left a detailed note saying that the reason they did all of this was because of Doom, other violent video games, and the media in general, so what? They still have no liability as far as I'm concerned. The parents have no liability. There could be a million things running through these kids mind, a million things that could have happened to them to cause this. Unfortunately, the world will never know what was really going on inside their heads. Deal with it!@
Sure it has an effect. It's part of life. It has been since the beginning of time. It will never change. No stupid lawsuit is just going to stop it all. Parents need to spend more time discussing the material, hell, maybe even play a game of doom or watch a horror movie together. That way the parent can have the discussions that need to happen to raise an "adjusted" child. I would have to say that anyone who reaches the age of 18, without having seen any type of sex and/or violence is going to have a hard time adjusting to what really happens in this world.
"But money may be the smallest part of the goal," said John DeCamp, the Sanders' Nebraska-based attorney. "This is a class action that says that, ultimately, money ain't gonna do it."
Then how come they already put a price tag on it? The fact that the attorney is the one that is saying this makes it even more unbelievable.
The ignorance of this world never ceases to amaze me
What's wrong with people asking to donate? Hell! I have a donation page on my personal web site that offers boring information about me through Paypal. Why? Because I can, and it took me 5 seconds to set up. If one person laughs at it and sends $1, it paid for itself. I don't actually expect people to donate, but if for some strange reason they feel like doing it, why not give them the opportunity =).
Couldn't have said it better myself (in fact, was just gonna say this). Napster was a scapegoat. Shutting them down would never solve the problem, as it will arise 15 thousand other ways.
Unfortunately these would all be rejected by the Slashdot editors.
Here is your first lesson if Slashdot goes global.
French = Première Distribution
German = Erster Pfosten
Italian = Primo Alberino
Portugese = Primeiro Borne
Spanish = Primer Poste

When will it be ported to America!
I believe you just completely backed up what he was trying to say instead of challenging it.

Now I'll feel like I'm hitting them even harder when I take stacks of them and throw them away. Spammers!
What if you were stupid like me, and bought into rambus?

They have a story about that same subject too. I remember the exact same discussion. It's very funny.

Yes, I think I knew that. I'm just too used to msg boards that filter those words out. Sad, isn't it?
And don't forget the worst of it all! No Mouselook! Ahhh! The horror!

Wow, you should be really proud!

Does PETA do anything, but be annoying on these issues?
