I have to completely disagree. You don't get anything for free. If Windows and Office are bundled with your PC, you are paying a flat rate. The same PC may cost 1,000 without Windows and Office bundled. You don't think the manufacturer gave anything to Microsoft. It's like cars with different trim lines, just becuase the EX or LX model comes with a sunroof and air, does not mean you got it for free. Because if you bought the lower trim model, you would have paid significantly less.
I do have to agree with you on the point about trusting Freeware, for the same reason I just posted above, nothing is really free. Some companies make you pay someway, maybe by tracking you and selling your information, which I have caught various freeware programs trying to do.
If they follow through with this, Windows XP will be doomed. There is no way I would purchase this operating system. They have no right to tell me what I can and can't do on my system. There are plenty of legal and useful applications for mp3. For instance, many games are now using them for their sound files, becaust the compression is so great. I am not a Linux advocate and never have been, but I must say it is looking better and better every day.
One of the other interesting things he says is "Who moved my cheese? I could have sworn I left it right here on the desktop." In reference to the don't ask questions, don't think for yourself book called "who moved my cheese" Pretty funny.
I knew something bad was going to happen when the service at my local chinese restaurant was really slow. I won't even tell you what the fortune cookie read.
That must be where their servers are. I could just see the engineers saying "Gee boss, the servers must be ready to go, we have 2,500 people connected from all the houses next door, and they're getting good ping times. Let's release."
Fade to one week later.
Diablo sells two million copies across the world.
Fade to one week later, one hour later
Why is our server crashing now? It was running so well during beta test?
Diablo looks like it could be a fun game, but I cannot play it because the controls are just way too annoying. Oooh! Treasure, click it!. Watch out for that monster, click it! Click East to go East, Click on that guy to talk to him, Click Clickety Click Click Click.
"LOL, ROFL"
Is it just me, or does the guy that wrote this sound like an AOLer that is just living in a fantasy world?
I was just waiting for him to say "A/S/L Got A pic?"
Sega makes great systems and games. I don't know why they won't follow through. Sega Master System was technically better than the Nintendo Entertainment System. Unfortunately, Nintendo had the marketing (and developers) to come out on top. Perfect example of this is my parents always referring to my Sega Master System (and every other video game) as "Nintendo".
Then along came the Genesis, great system, great games. Probably their biggest success, more powerful than the SNES, but only had 16 colors, images didn't look as crisp as on the SNES, and once again the marketing of the SNES outdid them.
Sega released the Sega CD. However this didn't really improve anything except that they could have full motion videos (even more grainy than the pixels). The price tag was high, and Sega abandoned it because it was not selling. A lot of my friends bought this and were very disappointed in the games support.
Sega then thought if they could improve the capabilities, it would sell more units, Behold the Sega 32x. This was abandoned so fast it made peoples head spin.
Enter the Sega Saturn, like the article says.. they were just outhyped and outmarketed by the Playstation and the playstation was actually better. Bad timing I guess.
Every one of their consoles (I'm leaving out the nomad which died because of battery life) was abandoned prematurely. I liked the Sega Dreamcast and vowed to buy one when phantasy star online came out. Fortunately, I heard the news about them abandoning it right when Phantasy Star was released. Which made me decide not to buy one. I think if this came out at launch time, there would have been lots of units sold. Let's face it people buy console to play their favorite games.
Sega made some truly great stuff and will be missed. It is unfortunate that with as much talent they have had, it is blinded by Sega's very poor marketing throughout the years.
At the bottom of the Seattle Wireless Page there is an option that says Edit Text, which when done, changes the text for that page permanently. Almost like that link was given from someone who had editor access. Now all of Slashdot has it.
I'm sure I'll be coming back to find some interesting writing.
You forget that they charge per month. If they have 100,000 players on their current game at $10 per month. That is $1,000,000 they are going to lose per month. I don't know about anyone else but the MMORPG that I play takes up WAAAY too much of my life. Since I have started playing, I haven't played any other games since (3 months).
The Onion / Slashdot. Problem with Slashdot is that if people had to pay to use it, the user base would drop making it much less valuable as an information source. It's not the editors stories I enjoy so much, but the dialogure that comes with them.
Other than that, no other sites would be worth it to me. Slashdot ads are not intrusive, popup ads are what kill me.
One of my favorite sites started popup ads, and I promptly started going elsewhere.
Dilute the value? I sure hope to god you didn't pay for one.
I seriously enjoyed this quote:
"If we could find a way to get rid of those (Banner) ads for a week we'd be the heroes of the Internet," Watson said.
2600 has been in a downward spiral for years.
And they call themselves Hackers?
First the poll, then the review, then they start selling it on Thinkgeek. Trying to spark a little interest there?
If they do prevent other companies from building software that does, watch the lawsuits fly.

I've seen people sell their beta test eligibility, and sometimes it can go for some big cash.
For this reason, I like to call it "Pokemon".
That would be 6.25 cents.
Is it just me or is it that all these types of stories are always aimed at Microsoft.
All Your DNA Are Belong To Us!
True, article didn't say anything about Social Security and PIN numbers which are MUCH harder to obtain.
Probably carded her.

Maybe if AOL would stop spamming!

Perhaps it is that you do get out enough.

When will people learn???? AOL IS NOT THE INTERNET!!!
