"Sure computers did exist, but Bill Gates brought them to the people."
Really ? You think nobody would be using computers if Microsoft hadn't existed ? How do you figure that one out ?
"Stealing ideas? Are you still at school? every company does that, from television shows to cars."
Some companies *gasp* actually *invent new things*. Yes I know the concept is strange, but believe me, it does happen occasionally...
"Besides, I thought that the GPL philosophy was all about not reinventing the wheel, using other peoples ideas and improving upon them. Look at Mandrake, they took a good Linux distribution and made it even better."
Very true; however there is a difference between stealing something and using something which is given freely.
Apologies to the original poster, I didn't read your post properly. But anyway, it's good to reiterate the point that Open Source doesn't have to be hobbyist software.
Generally true, but as you mention, there is John Peel:-)
For anyone not familiar with UK radio, I'd advise anyone wanting to hear great, refreshing, different, non-mainstream music to watch out for John Peel's show.
I've never understood why IBM don't port a Notes client to Linux either.
However, I think that may change in the next year or two. Here's why:
having visited a number of large IBM facilities, I know for a fact that almost all their desktops are (or were until very recently) running Win 95.
Now that M$ is officially not supporting 95, it seems that IBM have a few options:
a) pay M$ a *lot* of money to keep supporting 95 for IBM
b) pay M$ a *lot* of money to upgrade to XP
c) Produce a Linux client for Notes and switch everyone over to Red Hat/Suse/whatever
If I were in charge of IBM, I know which I would prefer (and it's not a or b). Mind you, IBM seem to have a habit of letting Bill stomp all over them (MS-DOS, OS/2) and not learning from the past, so maybe they will not go for the logical choice.
Exactly. I think Sony are shooting themselves in the foot behaving like this.
The one thing that could make the Playstation really hold its own against the Xbox, would be for Sony to really open up the hardware.
By behaving like this, there is very little incentive for people to keep buying Playstations, as opposed to X-boxen, given that they cost about the same amount, and the Xbox has a built in harddrive.
I can't really understand it, are Sony deliberately trying to get out of the console market ?
If so, they why would they care about mod chips ? If not then they should be trying to compete with the locked-down-tight Xbox...what the hell are they thinking ?
Cool. I might check it out :-)

If you don't believe me, just ask a judge.
The problem for me is, my network cards are very unstable under Windoze, so I'd like to find one that does run natively under Linux.

Oh wait, that was the FORCE feedback...
Think about it...
I wouldn't be surprised if indexed arrays ARE turned into pointers in the byte code.
I've not played Guild of Thieves.
Maybe they were both on vacation at the time ?
And if Balmer appears, he has to wear a black and white striped top, a mask, and a bag with 'SWAG' written on it.

Cool :-) Have you reported this to the mozilla people ?
There were a lot more, but mozilla's API's kept changing and breaking the older skins.
Now that (apparently) the API's have been frozen, expect to see a lot more skins appearing.
Not so. Netscape pays people to write the features and fix bugs which are needed for a 1.0 release.
Only the external contributors could be said to be "scratching an itch".
Does anybody know if Sony has any plans to release the kit for European Playstations ?
I'd definately be up for buying one if they did.
;-)

Whilst I am not at condoning this, don't Sony realise the threat they face from the X-box ?
It's not just about how many games you sell any more, it's about how many consoles you have in how many homes.
If Sony don't get a clue-stick soon, they may lose out big time to Microsoft.

Ker-ching !!!
I wonder why, if it is so good ?
