I do compositing using Combustion on my dual-athlon 2200 w/ 2GB RAM, and I've used it for 1080i HDTV......nowhere near realtime (try about 1:30 per frame for the output rendering). Combustion is the x86 version of the same apps from discreet (Flame) which runs on these SGI workstations in REALTIME.

the full version of acrobat does much much more than saving a document to pdf....it has support for creating forms, indexing, links, dynamic graphics, database connections, etc...
The Tungsten W already does this. I have a friend who has one. She says its a total pain in the ass to answer your phone when it rings. Unfortuneately she requires the functionality of a palm-based pda/phone, but AT&T didn't carry anything else. She would have prefered the Samsung I330.
Combustion (a compositing package similar to shake) already does this. Most 3D rendering applications support network rendering now as well. Weta is rendering to an individual file for each frame. Because of the nature of multithreaded processing and the inherent problems of multiple computers writing to the same file simultaneously, encoding to mpeg and to dvd is still time consuming, and typically only involve one machine. Even the pro-level applications (cleaner for encoding to MPEG, and Apple's DVD Studio Pro or Sonic ReelDVD for authoring DVDs) still only use one machine. Rendering 3D scenes is a completely different process than encoding video.
On the other hand, my three most recent PDA purchases were made because I was quite sick of not having a fresh set of AAAs lying around when my PDA decided to run out of juice.
well....if you had finished reading the article....it said that most chicken catchers don't stay at the job very long....and that a team gets reduced from 8 to 6, and that those 6 (see the direct quotes at the end) enjoy a much higher job standard than before, get paid about the same, and the less chickens are hurt or killed
Actually, LOTR:ROTK has been delayed until May 2004 so they can finish the CG work on it.
C is for Cookie became quite popular on my campus network back in '97....it was in rotation on my playlist!

ummm....Shake was written for Linux before it was ported to OSX.
the boards boxxtech is using have AGP 8X
ummm....for $2355 I can get a dual-opteron from Boxxtech. So fastest, no, first, no.
the problem w/ PNG not working in browsers is that alpha channel support is pretty sketchy (read not present in IE)

I think you mean Nutt, NM, the bar-cafe in the middle of nowhere. (I lived 7 miles from there, it was the nearest thing on a map)
A single county with over 9.6 million people living in it. That requires a huge amount of civil services, and hence a lot of computers.

no injuries and deaths to the chickens caused by handling (pre-slaughterhouse)....chickens with broken legs, wings, etc, can't be sold as food...RTFA
i think you missed the part where this machine can cut unecessary handling-caused injuries and deaths by 50%
you gonna wheel the cage 20 miles down the road? didn't think so....

I believe that means its a subscriber-only pre-release....why we non-subscribers are seeing it is anyones guess.
