I've been thinking about this for about 3 years now, just haven't had the time to do it.
Powerswitches for components and lights along front edge, verical drawer for motherboard. Exentions of usb/audio/ps2/etc. ports to a panel on the top of the desk. Backlit round panel with a spoke jutting up for a cd spindle. "popup" removable media drives on the top surface (lift a hinged panel with the drive attached to the underside to insert disk).
I wish I could see what this guy did to compare to my thoughts.
I think it has to do that the hair growth there is stronger. Those hairs, while shorter, are typical thicker. They also tend to be the last to lose their color when people get old.
Interesting enough, until I was about 8 I had platinum white hair, even on my eyebrows.
Actually....the total ammount of alcohol I drink isn't all that much.
Aside from the occaisional glass of wine, I only drink at parties. And most of the time I don't drink much then, simply because if I wanted to get drunk like everyone else, I would have to drink a lot more than I want to.
There was only one time that I got drunk enough to pass out. The best estimates are that I had somewhere on the order of 35 shots. The guy I mentioned who weighs 60lbs more than me only had a drink or two more before he passed out (we were matching drinks the whole evening).
They claim their findings indicate redheads are more susceptable to pain.
Based on what is presented in their article, an equaly valid point can be made: anesthesia is less effective on redheads.
Both are legit conclusions from the presented evidence. Either redheads could feel more pain, or their bodies may not absorb/be affected by intoxicants as much.
Explains why the redheaded cultures are known for impressive drinking skills.
I'm blonde, but can see light tinges of red in my facial hair...it comes from my grandmother who's a natural strawberry blonde; my uncle is definately a redhead.
What I've noticed is that when it comes to alcohol, caffiene, and other intoxicants/stimulants, I need a much higher dosage to feel the effects. I have a higher alcohol tolerance than antyone I know, matched only by a binge drinker who weighs 60 lbs more than I do.
I don't think that I'm more susceptible to pain either. Friends frequently refer to me as the guy with the 'asbestos hands'. If anything, I have a higher pain tolerance than most.
Drugs, just like pain and other nerve stimulus (I have very strong willpower over being tickled even though I am quite ticklish) seem to require stronger amounts to affect me to the level as the average populace.
I guess I can attribute this to my redhair or Dutch genes, being one and the same.
Since India has 42 official national languages, they already decided many many years ago to adopt English as the language of the state as a kind of lingua franca. If someone is at the university level in India, it is all but guaranteed that they speak, read, and write English.
A common language, an irrigation system, and a railroad system are the biggest legacies that India got from the British Empire.
My joke was based on the fact that Hawaii is now a state (as of 1959) unless of course you are pushing the agendas of groups like The Hawaiian Kinkgom.
Fact: *ALL* of the U.S. was 'taken' from the indigenous peoples by 'invaders'.
Sugar production is one of the things Hawaii is known for. Now, while I could have said "Lets invade Louisianna" it wouldn't have been as funny, because far less people know that Louisianna is a large sugar producer.
It was a joke that was not meant to offend anybody. I didn't make any kind of derogatory remarks towards any culture or ethnicity, so don't try to play Political Corrctness games.
There are plenty of groups claiming that the U.S. (and/or Canada and Mexico) don't have sovreignty in a particular region of the Southwest, Pacific Northwest, Florida, Texas, Vermont, and a whole slew of other places.
Now, how can you judge me of being unaware of history from 1 line of text? Research indicates George Washington most likely didn't have wooden teeth...but it makes for some funny jokes.
You accuse my comment of being trollish, but yours is what exactly? If I hadn't already commented in this discussion I would use my moderation points to mark you down.
Finally, you're using the traditional "free-market" technique of *not* looking at *all the costs*. Continuing to use traditional power plants running on oil means that we're constantly having to defend our "interests" in the middle east, spending billions and billions of dollars on military equipment and personel. This military intervention is what keeps our oil prices low. Thus, part of that cost has to be figured in to the cost of the electricity, and at that point the sugar wins hands down, I think
While in architecture school I did 70 hours nonstop working in studio on my project, and I haven't suffered any nahhh naaaaahhhh nhaahaha any side effects. I would have done longer if I hadn't finished my project. I know other people who did longer.
I don't doubt that he died after a long bout of not sleeping, but I don't believe that the lack of sleep is what killed him. I'm more inclined to think a heart attack from all the caffine is what did him in.
In the U.S. its quite simple to perpetrate voting fraud (a lot of dead people vote every election), and voting registration and tracking is handled at the state/local level, not the national level.
Handling it at the national level, and electronicaly, makes cross-refferencing much easier.
And there is the added bonus of speeding up the counting.
I didn't say it was a miracle; electronic voting is prone to as many problems as paper voting.
There is a benefit to mandatory voting: one group can't get particularly inflamed over an issue and take control simply because everyone else doesn't really care as much.
As a question about the mandatory voting....do you have to pick a candidate for a particular position? Or can you abstain?
I agree that there are particular problems regarding voting fraud poor countries. But those issues aren't solved by paper vs. eletronic votes.
Needless to say, if voting was required in the U.S., many of the stupid decisions that have been made probably wouldn't have. We frequently have major issues that most people think are stupid an pointless....and so instead of voting against it, they just don't vote, and the special interests get their way.
Anyways, on the education issue, for the kinds of economic, climatic, infrastrucural issues that Brazil has to contend with, I think they are doing a suprisngly good job. As for your English writing skills, they are much more proficient than mine are in any other language, and I'm generally considered a very-well educated American.
If the guy's sign said "Don't buy here, they are slimey racist pedophilic scam artists." Then that would be slander/libel. I believe this what the original poster meant. We already assumed the comments were slanderous, he was just clarifying that they had premeditated malicious intention of bringing down his business.
How about adding in multiple threads? (besides seperating out the graphics of the screensaver)
I have several dual-procs at my disposal that I like to run SETI@home on, but its an absolutely hideous chore to run and manage multiple instances of the client on the same machine.
Oh, and is SETI@home trademarked? Is the YourCableCompanyHere@Home a violation? (I'd love to see SETI get a huge widfall settlement at the "big boys'" expense.
if they can see 2 mac addresses... then they know that there are more than one machine on a hub or switch
I think they also use some kind of traffic or packet analyzer to watch for most routers....although I never had a problem w/ a software router and 2 network cards
I believe they are running cisco switches and have some kind of customized network sniffing software that watches for various things they don't like being done and then sends instructions to the switches. Its an entirely automated process.
but, people would be viewing more pages on /., hence more banner ads

Another comment now that I've read the article.

Actually, I would say that in this case, applying Occam's Razor could justifiably let you pick either life-based or purely chemical processes.
However, these scientists didn't choose. They said it might be life, or it might be an unknown chemical process.
They lean to the life option because in this case microbes are much more efficient than inorganic processes (a valid Occam's Razor conclusion)
No kidding, its almost the exact same article, with the exact same quotes.
If anything, the previous New Scientist article provides more information.

Yes! Invade Hawaii!
That would be alcohol poisoning

I know a blank vote is different. Hence why I asked about abstaining (which is blank-voting)

Brazilians are required to vote.
Probably results on a lot less confusion from infrequent voters, and a lot easier to setup and verify people on an electronic system.
I'm betting instead you'll hear these 3 phrases:
"Fuck...I chrashed", "Ha ha. I fragged you" and "I own your ass bizzatch!"

you can download it with a friend's machine, go to a user lab, or even use a modem if you are that desperate.
