I enjoy the work of both groups, but you're comparing an attempt at a open world sandbox to an attempt at a character driven dramatic story. It would make no more sense to call the newest Zelda game a paring down of whatever Final Fantasy we're up to these days.

PS: It's my assumption that the GP is referring to these conflicts largely featuring insurgencies who hide within the local population to avoid retaliation, not implying that there were no innocents.

That would be Six Days in Fallujah. It's kind of unfortunate they never finished the game, they seemed to want to tell the story of what actually happened on the ground, and I think it would have served as a nice counterpoint to the jingoism in BF/CoD. That said, While I think making games that challenge us or our beliefs are to be applauded some will simply see ANY "game" as a cheap bit of entertainment at their loved ones expense.

I'm not a big fan of steam either, but this is wrong. Most games sold on steam can be easily run from their own executables on disc without loading the client, in my experience it's only specific titles which use steam for DRM like Civ 5, or Valves own titles which require the client to be loaded. If you haven't already, goto: /Steam/Steamapps/common/ and check for yourself.

This is not to suggest modern air pollution is less dangerous, simply that it's not the same thing as an infection. While there's probably more junk in the air, it seems that less of it is biological.

It isn't a popular sentiment but are the vast majority of books of any constructive use beyond keeping the publishing industry afloat? While I'll never glance at the inside of a Harry Potter book, I'm happy they were written if they get children interested in reading, but I would not hold JK Rowlings works up and argue that they show the value of copyright. Alongside that I truly believe that between digital distribution, hardcover special printings and what have you authors could still support themselves comfortably if they could learn to cut out the middlemen.

If you poke around the Sarif industries offices you'll get a little background information. If I recall correctly it's in a conversation between Sarif and his lawyer where he mentions he's bringing Jensen in to deal with the issue at the typhoon plant, the lawyer objects saying he should still be on leave, and that the doctor only gave him a clean bill of health under pressure. Also mentioning that they'd gone over the line with Jensens augmentations, Sarif only responds by pointing out that Jensen isn't going to sue after having his life saved. I think it's pretty clear in game that Sarif crossed the line, prioritizing his own need for a super soldier over moral concerns or Jensens wishes .

I run a small server out of my living room for a few friends, and I feel your pain. I absolutely dread update time because it means spending the next day wrestling with the various plugins trying to get everything working again. Power outtages and a former roommate who accidently unplugged the server a few times also meant some hair pulling moments with the worldmap. Just tossing this out there, but theres a pretty lightweight backup plugin available for bukkit which I believe is just called "Backup" it can be configured to .rar a copy of the plugin, world and nether folders however often you like, as well as letting you manage the number of backups to save.

Notch's own additions to Minecraft have been eclipsed several times over by the improvements available through the modding community. Most of his recent additions and changes have either been superficial or very underwhelming. Compare recent updates to some of the better mods or plugin packs like IndustrialCraft, Better Than Wolves, or Runecraft. The only things Notch is supposedly working on for MC that I'm even remotely interested in are the standardized modding API which has supposedly been in the works for the past millenia, as well as increasing the maps height limit, which if adopted will force Notch to address at least some inefficiencies in memory management. Either way, not holding my breath.
