They don't want newbies on Linux because they are 31337.
This pisses me off so much. "Don't clone XP" what a load of crap. Before saying this, think of the deployment model for a large corporation. They want as little change as possible so they don't have to comletely retrain everyone. If you want companies to switch to Linux you need to remove the learning curve.
The first step should be to migrate the current Windows installations over to Mozilla, OpenOffice and other cross-platform tools so the users get used to them.
After that is to pull the tablecloth out and reinstall their systems with a Linux install that looks like Windows and uses the same tools they are now used to.
Finally, let the Sysadmins relax and enjoy the benefits of a stable system that they don't need to completely retrain everyone for. Enjoy the security, lack of virusses, and speed.
I am sick of these people who think Emacs is easy. Bullshit! Most newbies find Notepad difficult! Word might as well be learning Physics. People don't need a system with Pico, Emacs, VIM, TeX, and all that crap on it. They want a simple system that works without needing to know 4000 fricking keyboard shortcuts.
I used to work tech support for Gateway. Most of the callers had Kazaa, a bunch of shitty software Gateway gave them, and the Klez virus.
Based on the amount of shit that is installed and running when you purchase a Gateway, you might as well just buy a few $199 Walmart PCs and toss 'em in the corner, the free CPU will be far greater.
BTW: If you have a Pentium IV from Gateway, check to make sure your power supply is powerful enpough, I know alot shipped with 90W Power supplies.
And what's worse....I came in to read the comments and got a VB.net ad.
Is the OSDN going to become the MSOSDN?
Beware! Slashdot is just a mask for the darkside.... Microsoft shall rule... (until the 24th when Xandros comes out...or whenever Lycoris stops using Lizard)
Hmm, I remember when Mario All-Stars was released. Electronic Gaming Monthly (or was it Video Games and Computer Entertainment?) had an article detailing how it was intentionally added in to All-Stars. Perhaps it's not so much of a hoax as it is an Easter egg in All-Stars.
Yes, you can....it's called NewDeal Office. It includes, an Office suite that easily matches Microsoft Office, a web browser, and Email client....just enough for your average Joe Schmoe to be happy.
But why? There is a new innovation on that FreeDOS CD called SEAL! Seal aims to be fully customizable, cross-platform and free. Since 1.0 it has had many of the features a modern GUI needs, and its only getting better.
Working tech support.....I will account that 99% of the people I talk to are scared to death of their computer....if they stick the CD they just bought in the drive and it doesn't work, they're gonna turn, run and never look back. Hows that for why Lindows is a BAD DECISION.
The original article said the adhesive from post-it notes will work as well...Of course the theft protection devices included on the inside of CD Cases contains a similar adhesive....this should be the preferred method....then when they outlaw them people can just walk off with copies of the CD.
You need Pow! It's wonderful....I visit all of these sites with popups just to ad them to my list...and I never see them again. I put this one right in my Startup group.
My K6-2 500 runs faster than most Pentuim-II 500 systems I have used. Hell, I'm sitting at a P-III 650 right now and my K6-2 oputperforms it in all areas. (except video encoding)
Dumpster, Thrift store, or Rescue Mission branch. My low-end laptop came from a dumpster where I used to work. It's a 486/33 with 32Mb of RAM and a 110Mb Hard drive. I put PC DOS 2000, QEMM 8, and GEOS 2.0 on it and it runs like flash.
Amazing how easy it is to adapt from MS Office to GEOS too...even easier than going to Word/Excel for DOS or even Works!
No, the site is not up now. It will not be up again until next week when it will no olnger get hammered by millions of people.
As I have said many times in many places. NO, Desqview/X is NOT Free. As far as where the submitter got the idea that it was free, I have no idea.
So, anyone who comes back to my site after the onslaught of slashdotters to download Desqview/X, you are doing it unlawfully. But, until the link to my site is off the frontpage of Slashdot, there is no site.
Mmmm....With Cheese! Salty....crispy...tasty CRACKERS!

Well Jee.....A and O are not next to each other on a standard keyboard......Does that clue you in to something?

Hott damn! When's the first game coming out? I got to get me one of those!
Nahh, with Slashdot, it's probably just another repeat story.
Arrgh! Don't you listen to Dennis Leary? Crack came along cause Cocaine wasn't blowing people's brains up fast enough!

I want a pad with VNC burned into ROM....so I can display my desktop from anywhere and interract with it using just a pen!
I don't watch TV, so why would I pay $99 a month for a dish? or the $40 extra a month on top of my RoadRunner bill for cable?
Isn't "nerd" a term coined by the "cool people" to call people loosers?
Maybe you should get something to do other than watch TV?

A clipboard supplied by X itself so the Window manager doesn't need to supply one.
hehehe, that Puppy comes from MS BOB so I guess it wasn't a total flop....just had to wait and resurface when more dumb people were using computers.

Really sorry to say this, but there is home suite that Microsoft offers that is Word, Money and Works.
Maybe that is what your looking for?
Hammerhead is a computerized drum station.... A CPU optimized for such things would be nice

Just my 20 cents
