Einstein said that whatever's true from one view is true. For example, we could proclaim that the Earth is still, the Sun is revolving around us, and everything else revolves around the Sun. However, for us to claim that every planet and star revolves around the Earth, and nothing really revolves around the Sun, we'd have to say that the Earth-other_planet interaction was relatively more influential than the Sun-other_planet interaction, which we presently believe is false from any planet's point of view.
The RIAA embraces all forms of bastards, including, but not limited to, litigious ones, To googlebomb them as litigious bastards would be to ignore a large part of their bastardness.
Everyone should have picked a more common phrase. I mean look at that list. #1 is SCO, #2-10 are...people talking about Google bombing SCO. The best use of a Google bomb would be to give the uneducated the results, in this case you have to know what you're looking for to find it.
Let's do a quick search and replace to see if your argument of forced-irresponsibility can hold water 1. Half of all marriages end in divorce. Many, many of these have kids. One parent tries to woo the kid by giving them what they want. The other does the same. Pretty soon the kid has PORN... (this is not remote, it's common)
2. The number of children born outside of marriage is approaching (or overtaking) the number born within marriage. There are millions of kids out there with no dads. Mom works... or doesn't. Leaves the kids at home... to do??? Get's PORN.
3. Many parents are idiots. The buy into all of this stuff that you guys are saying. Like... it's not real... or it's only in a movie... any healthy person can tell the difference... They buy their kids PORN.
How often do the above happen? Just this side of never. So, basically, parents can be responsible, they just choose not to in the case of games
Yes I am, specifically one who has actually implemented handling of network packet loss and scrambling. To imply that there's any engineer/programmer at NASA who didn't anticipate lost and garbled packets over a satellite connection is just ludicrous.
The biggest question everyone should be asking, is WHO is going to buy this system and WHY? I can no longer remember where I read this, but months ago someone went to a Phantom conference or something. The author of the article stood up near the end and asked the following: "I already have the 3 major consoles and a gaming PC. Why should I buy a Phantom?" Their response: "You are not our target audience"
So basically their scope is limited to people who haven't touched a gaming system in 2 years, suddenly became (re)interested, and chooses them over their other 4 options despite the (probable) price increase and the (definate) worse game selection. Maybe the 1-2 people who get worked up over downloadable content.
Possible, but the communication protocol should have been thouroughly tested on the ground. It would be easy to simulate, and they wouldn't even necessarily need the rover itself to test for handling of high-loss conditions. It could be that simple, but I REALLY hope they would catch it before the final software version.
Write a 5 line script that will make a copy of your code in all lowercase and compile that instead. Or just type in all lowercase to begin with (ewwwww). Or get an editor that'll fix case for you (I saw at least 2 mentioned in this thread). Or just do a search-and-replace in your file to turn whatever variable errors into the case you want.
Me? I want a compiler that will make me toast on the first build of the day.
Sadly enough, I've always preferred the MS mouse and keyboard software to the Logitech ones. It took Logitech a whole year to fix a bug in their keyboard software that would keep your computer from shutting down if you didn't close it first. And it's fugly.
But I'd like to know why MS took out the "customize button" option from their mouse software in the latest version. I had to roll back to be able to use my 4th and 5th buttons in half the games I own. (why I need that feature at all is a rant for another time and place)
Have any of these end-downloader lawsuits ever come to a judgement? How many? All I hear about are people getting bullied into settlements, how are things going to turn out now that they're showing up in court before saying "Give us $3k or we'll take everything"?
Today we all came in, brought a side dish, and my two supervisors brought in bratwurst. I just got finished eating one of the best lunches in my life. I think it's safe to say I have the WURST working environment.
I'm sorry, it had to be said. Don't blame me, blame the mods for posting this story 10 minutes after I get done eating them.
When was the last time you got anything more in a non-special-edition game box than a CD, a jewlcase(maybe), a manual (that barely describes anything more than the install process), and a keymap card (on a few rare occasions)? That probably was Ultima IV
Steam gets bogged down horribly every time there's a new 50MB patch out, so bad one can't even join a server after getting the patch. I'd hate to be on that network downloading when the same number of people goes to download 1-3 gigs worth of new game if it were the only form of distribution.
Like every other aspect about every single game ever made, it's not that the sniper rifle exists that creates problems, rather its implementation and the surrounding environment.
Original UT- Sure, sniper rifles sucked, because they fired a round a sec, allowed people to move as fast as they would normally, let them use it as a close range weapon, and gave them plenty of places to hide where sniping was the ONLY counter.
BF1942- You have to lead your target, stay still, and hope nobody drops a fscking bomb on you or got within 50 yards.
It's not the rifle's fault the developers can't properly balance weapons. That's why most of the players who are interested in games of skill and teamwork have moved on from UT/CS/Q3.
Once I went and bought a value pack of like 5 CD games, one of which being an Ultima game (couldn't tell you which one). Whoever published this value pack lacked the foresight to include the manuals for any game, so when I hit one of those anti-pirate questions, I was out of luck. If I had downloaded it, or even gotten it from a friend, I'm sure I would have gotten the manual exerpt with the answers.
Unfortunately, it sounds like they're doing good work at preparing their students for the real world. I guess one could say they've succeeded by being ignorant.
We measure temperature across vast distances using light. Something that's really really cold is really really dark. Something that simply prevents light from escaping is also really really dark.

My fresh-out-of-college job at a major defense contractor put me 3k behind the average. I'm certainly not gonna complain.

No no, back of the throat, "Aaagghh"
As if the average gamer doesn't do that without voice chat.

But a no-fault tone is not a fault tone, so they received both no-fault tones and no fault tones.

Don't send them music they didn't pay for! We don't need the RIAA suing aliens too

Why exactly would a company feel the need to go to E3 to demo a product that's already shipping?

I believe was available for preorder at Amazon sometime in 99 or 2000. Preorder means nothing.
