    I thought Frank was the person who wrote the MS-DOS version in 8086. He had a cute method of doing returns from routines that would return one place if successful and another if failed by playing with the stack return value, then doing a ret.

    If you have e-mail trap addresses, forward them to president@whitehouse.gov. If you want, fax the whitehouse at 202-456-2461. If you do fax a letter, you may want to include a copy of 1 day's worth of spam to the letter.


    Of course, if you do this every day, they can opt-out.


    I spoke to a couple of representitives who told me that the bill was voted on before they had a copy of the bill, so they could only vote on it, based on the title and not read the bill.

    Though you can switch carriers and keep your phone number, you still have to change phones. The service providers lock the phones to their service when it comes from the factory, so it makes it harder to switch. I also bet, if you buy (or given)) a phone from someone who is stiff'd the provider, they won't let you have service on that phone.

    We must take action before this crap bill is passed!


    Take a few hours of spam, and fax it to your congress person and senators. Include a letter that explains how the bill is such a bad idea and it will increase the spam. I sent 25 pages to my people with a letter that explained that this was 6 hours of spam on a Sunday. That the bill, if passed will make this much worse. That only opt-in will work and that there must be statutory damages and a private right of action.


    Of course, they are welcome to opt out of this campain, from each of us who add them to the list. They may get the point if 500 people do the same thing every few days, and they have to opt out from all 500.

    Aids and flu happens naturally, it is not created by man. It may or may not be more or less dangerous than any virus created by man. But, that does not mean that when creating something that is potentially dangerous you need to be very very careful, since you do have control over the creation.

    Just because natural fires occur in the forest, it does not mean that we should not put out our own camp fires.

    IBM did this with OS/2. It is far cheaper to support an operating system where you are only dealing with sysadmins then the type of people you have to say, "is it plugged in?"

    Where this differs from OS/2 is that there are others producing end user version of Linux so that small end users are not left in the cold.

    It is a bad idea. I was rear-ended by this woman on a cell phone who was too busy talking. It nocked my laptop off the front seat, interrupted my IRC chat and incomming fax and landed on the dinner I was cooking on the floor of the front seat.


    Can't these people pay attention and not do anything else while driving. I now have to get a new laptop for the car. Jeeeezzz.

    This takes out one spammer and shows some of the people who spam or thinking about spamming that they may get hit with fines and penalties.


    The money does get put into the state coffers. This is not like the RIAA who keeps the money for themselfs.

    Partner has a specific meaning. At the very least, if their partner sends it, you can tell their partner to stop and all their other partners should be notified. Now, if they claim that they can't inform their partners, are they realy partners.

    but the result will be a myriad of small cases that swamp the justice system and the only real winners will be the lawyers.

    Not true, there may be an increase in the short term, but then spammers will realize that they can't continue to spam and the case load will decrease. Washington and California state courts have not crashed because of spam cases.


    Government agencies tend to move slowly and pick the cases for people who donate to campaigns or cases that they want to use to make a point. Look at the EEOC, it allows individuals to bring cases or they can bring cases themself.


    If only a government agency can take action, the small time spammers will keep going thinking that they are too small for the government to take action.

    That is partially correct. If I signed up for website X, it does allow X to send the e-mail to you. It does not allow everyone that X sold the list to, to send you e-mails.
