Should an indepentendly produced and published game, released in January, that then gets picked up by a publisher in July, be exempt from any Indie awards for that year given in December?
There are multiple reasons for not getting things on the X-box
1) Valve like giving things away for free. MS don't. There is a limit to what MS constitutes as a 'patch' and what is DLC. MS practically force DLC to be pay-for (I think devs get 1 or 2 free DLC's) 2) X-box is a horrible environment for running the Hammer Editor (what is used to make Source Maps) - hell, it's quite clumsy on the PC (It's by no means the worst, but for my money UnrealED was always the easiest to use) They would have to develop a version that works using Console controls 3) The sources for maps are also Huge. Downloading/storing them on your XBox where they're just going to sit and take up space that could be used for something decent is just silly.
"the most commonly encountered shape is a small "bug" with four limbs and "wings" on its back. The bug can upgrade itself into a larger "queen" to facilitate replication."
They were very similar to spiders. so yes, they were originally spider robots.
Why do people who like Sci-fi not watch any of the classics any more? I enjoyed Stargate and I enjoyed Star trek.
Why do people who've never seen Star Trek assume that the summary is wrong? Are we REALLY that disillusioned by the editors or is this just classic/. troll behaviour?
Replicators in Stargate were little spider robots that were like a combination of Lego and the T-1000 that consumed metal and turned it into more Blocks that formed more spider robots and so on. They then 'evolved' into humanoids that were just the T-1000 (impervious to bullets, remorphed themselves if deformed etc)
That programme design was probably greenlighted due to the prevailance of CapsLock. If CapsLock hadn't existed, your app probably wouldn't have needed all caps.
If somehow it did, you could always use a piece of stickytape
I don't know about everyone else, but these are my views: I'm against the manipulation of copyright law to protect the interests of corporations, rather than the artists I'm against the use of copyright law to snatch money, over the odds, from illicit downloaders - Damages of $9,250 per song in the case of Capitol vs Thomas I'm against the use of Piracy as an excuse to snoop into my browsing habits and assuming me Guilty and having to prove myself Innocent.
And rightly so. I doubt they actually made any money from the plug in, so $10m would have utterly crippled both the university and the students therein.
Have we really reached the point where "Good enough is" Is the XBox 360/PS3 really the pinnacle of console gaming for the next 5 years? With the Wii selling bucketloads more initially than anything else, despite having inferior graphics hardware, have the other two finally realised that Faster chips, bigger numbers and impressive specs are really just nothing more than macho posturing?
Using Windows on the Internet is like having a unprotected sex with a member of the opposite sex you met in a club. Looks good enough for you, does what you need it to, but the risk of infection is high. Using Linux on the internet is like having unprotected sex with a cow. It's harder to catch a compatible infection, but it's ugly and unlikely to play any of the games you'd like it to.
there are many ATMs in the UK that use Windows XP as their OS of choice. Having personally seen crash screens and machines caught in a restart loop.
Why they are using windows, I don't know to be honest. Why they'd be using a Linux distro, I don't know. The banks probably don't know either, as far as I'm aware they get their ATMs from companies like NCR or IBM (or Diebold, as we've seen before) who are the companies who supply the software. It just so happens that the software they write is written for Windows Operating System. Remember, the cost of hiring someone who can programme for Windows is significantly less for someone who can programme for Linux (As they will likely also be able to programme for Windows, thus, with a larger skill-set they'll demand more money) And a bulk licence for Windows where they're churning out 1,000+ ATMs boils down to next to nothing.
The cheapest programmer, the cheapest hardware, a slightly costly OS. Something has to be a weak link, and the exploiters exploit it.
Basically, you need a browser that hasn't officially been released to browse/. properly.
this is the only site I know of that attempts to implement things it knows does not work on the majority of browsers, just because they SHOULD work. IE6 was the worst offender for this, but just because a browser isn't perfect doesn't mean it should be deliberatly broken.
However, unlike valve, EA did an awesome job of the post-release upkeep with new maps, good patches, and an expansion
The game hasn't even been released yet. How can you say "Unlike Valve"? Valve have had the best track record of any developer besides Blizzard for post-release updates. Sure, they've not done much post-sequel updates, but they've never had a sequel released this close to it's predecessor before. We don't know WHAT Valve will do with L4D once L4D2 comes out. This is uncharted waters for Valve, and the way they handle is is going to reflect on them as a Company in a big way. Ditch L4D and recieve the ire of long-time devotees. Keep updating it and wind up the same as BF2, or have a reduced-upgrade fee - ala UT2003/04 (Which would most likely be the best option imo)
Other Than Little Lost Robot There were no stories where the laws were deliberatly (or accidentally) changed Go read "The Complete Robot" for the vast majority of the short stories Asimov wrote on the subject
What i'm saying is that a single server, or multiple servers, can't do anything for over-zealous reading from the users disk. That the Lag problem isn't solely related to the server.
Warcraft has this problem, especially in towns. It can take between 30 seconds to two minutes to fully load Dalaran the first time you log in as it has to not only download everyones armour, but then read/decompress that off your disk. My friend - who has 48Gb of RAM - created a RAM Disk and loaded WoW's game files onto it (WoW's game files come to around 13Gb). It loads fast, and I mean lightning fast, since the RAM has a faster throughput than the HDD. Most of the 'lag' in Warcraft comes from the user end, as opposed to any server creaking.
This has led to some humorous bugs in the game. For example, "The Naked Bug" - which tends to happen either in Cities or when going into an instance (25 man instances mainly) Where characters armour fails to load and your buddies are all running around in the nip. Anyone already in the instance is naked to you, and anyone joining after is normally fully clothed. And the only way to fix it is for you to exit and re-enter the instance, or for each naked person to exit and re-enter (for example, by dying).

I found this flickr pic on an NCR ATM
This blog entry detailing a NationWide (UK Bank) ATM
and a Youtube video of an ATM on a boot cycle
Maybe they're causing a stack overflow with code on a cards strip/Chip...

Shard is more than just that too, as a single 'Server' may use multiple shards (For cities, instances etc)
I prefer 'Realms' but really it's just down to local terminology.

NPC: Hello Bodo Gaggins, we need you to deliver some pies to various places in the shire
Deliver pies to:
Bree
Stormwind
and The Crashed Ammar Frigate that used to be Hobbiton
