Itâ(TM)s no secret that the healthcare system (Along with the education system) is broken and needs work, but weâ(TM)re in a deep recession here and now isnâ(TM)t the most appropriate time to start spending billions. The primary goal should be to repair the economy first and then when everythingâ(TM)s kosher start disquieting about the other stuff; you canâ(TM)t do everything all at once.
If only the Obama administration wasnâ(TM)t so pedantic and feels like it needs to play God.
Sorry for the typo in the second sentence. My girlfriend sat down in her bra and panties in front of the air conditioner as I was writing that. Yes, that's just as distracting for us as for you, guys. -_-
Woa. Not one, but TWO girls on Slashdot? And I thought a me being a teenage Slashdotter was strange enough.
ATI is right up there in performance when compared to it's rival Nvidia GPU's. The problem is, Intel's Core i7 blows anything AMD has out of the water. Even the aging Intel quad-cores rival with AMD's brand new Phenom 2's.
For your inflamatory problem, try buying an aloe vera leaf, cutting it open and putting the gel it releases on the affected area. Its not all witch docs that do this, many others do because they realize you dont need to buy into the bullshit the drug companies tell you. I mean common now, most medicine has more bad side effects than good effects. Also, its not necessary to pop a damn pill everytime your head starts to hurt a bit. suck it up.
The body has phenomenal healing capabilities. They've done extensive and thorough tests on people contrasting the actual drugs and sugar pills and almost all of the participants from both groups were satisfied with the result. For the most part, it's all in your head.
Being diagnosed with an extremely rare disease named KTS (Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber_syndrome I've taken my fair share of pretty much every drug (from morphine to dilaudid). From personal experience I can tell that all it does is slightly mask the pain and make you feel like worse even worse shit when you factor in all the side-effects. Now, TFA is talking about cold meds but it's the same principal; if people expanded their horizons and stopped popping Advils or taking Zicam when they aren't feeling well and taking another root (natural medicine, anyone?), It's guaranteed society would notice a difference.
The reason tethering isn't widely adopted by the phone companies is because when you're tethering you're often passing more amounts of data than you would with just your phone.
But first off, where are we going to get the money to start buying kites? No doubt a fleet of electricity generating kites are going to cost a pretty penny. Second, why would you invest in a new technology when there are other (probably more-efficient) green technologies. Now isn't the time to start innovating from scratch with the global recession. Lastly, where are going to put them, in the plains of the Midwest? What happens when the kites start interfering with birds and such?
It's a nice idea in theory, but not practical (at least for now).
Damn the enter key. Continuing what I was saying...
Why would Google want to spend MORE by adopting HTML5? This means more bandwidth, more servers, more staff. It's obvious Google isn't shy of cash but this isn't smart in a failing economy.
DiBona responded with concerns that switching to Theora while maintaining quality would take up an incredible amount of bandwidth for a site like YouTube, though he made clear his support for the continued improvement of the project. Greg Maxwell jumped into the debate by comparing the quality of Ogg/Theora+Vorbis with the current YouTube implementations using H.263+MP3 and H.264+AAC. At the lower bitrate, Theora seems to have the clear edge, while the higher bitrate may slightly favor H.264. He concludes that YouTube's adoption of "an open unencumbered format in addition to or instead of their current offerings would not cause problems on the basis of quality or bitrate."
They're losing a pretty penny on YouTube. The ad revenue can't keep up with the costs it takes to run YouTube (servers, bandwidth, staff ect). Why
Please define what you mean by "easily treatable". Malaria has no silver bullet, and the only available treatments which work consistently are really just preventative measures and are relatively expensive. And since the parasites behind Malaria are evolving resistance to the usual antimalarial drugs, for the most part, once you get it, you're cooked.
Malaria is a highly *intractable* problem that occurs in the poorest parts of the world, which makes dealing with it nearly impossible. That's why its a chronic problem, its not something that would just go away if the whole world threw some money at it. Nobody knows *how* to get rid of it.
Your kidding, right? If people actually put effort into treating diseases like malaria and AIDS they would go away. The problem is, it's just not profitable for the pharmacudical companies. I mean, who wants to help a third-world country when they won't get anything in return. It's all about the money.
People get the flu EVERY SINGLE YEAR, H1N1 is no different. The WHO and the media make a big deal about this because the drug companies asked for their bailout too. It's quite simple; make the world panic (H1N1 being a pandemic is blasphemous) and everyone asks the pharmacudical companies to start pumping out drugs and the cash starts rolling in. I mean, look how much Novartis's stock has gone up http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=NVS. Don't feed the pig, please.
If you want something to panic about, panic about the millions of people each year who die from easily treatable illnesses such as Malaria.
The student released the source after the release date, which prevented any of his peers from cheating. In the computer science classes that I take, it's allowed to share the source code for your assignments as long as it isn't for a pending assignment and/or test.
The only reason that comes to mind for the teacher wanting the code to be taken down is because he was going to use the same assignments next year (Which is fairly common among teachers). Regardless, in this case it's his code and he has the right to do whatever he wants with it.
Unfortunately schools have become more about preparing you for standardized tests and such rather than giving you a real education with the information you actually will use in life (Which is why teachers always have to cover their asses). What Brady was trying to do was help his peers and kudos to him for doing so.
I live less than 10 minutes from NYC, and all the light pollution that it emits carries over to my house and you can barely see any stars at night.
A few years ago, I became interested in astronomy and bought a telescope. After spending an entire day assembling the thing when I looked through it at night I couldn't see a damn thing; only the moon\. It was one of the most depressing days of my childhood.
The sad part is as long as New York is New York, I won't be able to see the stars. But hey, maybe the economy will get so bad that Wall Street closes up and everyone moves out:)

I like my AMD chips.

Agreed. This will also make Wikipedia's bandwidth cost skyrocket, and if I remember correctly they're on a lean budget.

Was anyone really expecting the greedy phone companies to give us tethering?
You have a better chance of TPB and Time Warner merging into one company.

I just finished taking language arts finals too...Wonder how well I did :-)
It should say "Ubisoft"
He predicted Global Warming...shocked the world with "An Inconvinient Truth"...and created the internet.
This can only mean one thing: Al Gore is the Messiah. Move over Obama, there's a new kid in town.
If all the drug companies actually put effort into stopping it (or atleast controlling it), AIDS would start to diminish.

A: VB, Java, CAD.

1. Miniaturize the solar panels.
2. Make adapters for them so they can be used in everyday devices (phones and such)
3. ???
4.Profit!
As long as there is internet, there will be piracy. Plain n' simple.
AmazonMP3 trying to compete with Itunes.
Few will hear about the new store, and even fewer will switch.
Ford vs. GM eh?
No competition here, they'll both be going into bankruptcy soon.
VI and EMACS are two completely different things.
VI is like BSD. Nobody uses it or gives a flying fuck about it.
EMACS on the other hand is a very useful text editor.
