A "cold war" is when both countries give each other the "cold shoulder" (Indirect fighting ect). In this case, they used puppet wars such as Vietnam and Korea. The cold war was more of an arms race more then anything, mainly to see who was the "Top dog" after WW2.

If you think the MIIT has that much power over the Chinese people, how much more power does the FCC have over the entire world?
It's funny, there are so many similarities between China and the U.S. Both are huge world powers that use their military and economic power to intimidate neighbors. Both are led by an oligarchy of unremovable political parties. And both have populaces that are brainwashed and fiercely patriotic.
China is a good mirror of ourselves, so when this type of thing comes up, it's a good idea to take note and think about how we ourselves are being manipulated right here at home.
If only I had mod points...Your entirely correct. The population here in the US looks down on China, as if we have no similarities and they're inferior when in fact we're so much alike.
On a side note, I think a 17â with a decent resolution will surprise you more than you think. Youâ(TM)re upgrading from an old CRT to an LCD which is a big leap, try going to your local PC shop and have a look at their inventory to get an idea. Also, you won't hit HD until 22" with 1900x1080 res.
Also, bring on the inevitable "ditch wind, go nuclear" stuff. I can has mod points now?
IANAA (Adult, yes) Nuclear is much more efficient when compared to wind farms, but nuclear energy hasn't been developed enough for it to be used as a main energy source. There are many advances and safety precautions to be made before nuclear goes to the big leagues. Intermittently though. we need to drastically cut our addiction to oil and go after power like wind and solar.
Build it, I say. That'll teach those birds to crap on my car!
Your worried about bird crap? Oh man, your going to be in for a big surprise when a turbine hits the bird and it's guts are on your car. That's when the shit really starts to hit the fan.
No SSD? No blu ray? No multiple core processors? No high clocked graphics cards? No ram with heat-spreaders attached? And worst of all no big case with lights inside?!
This also means many of the paper-pushers currently drawing down salaries denying people coverage will have to go do productive work instead, further improving the economic situation.
Even though paper-pushers don't contribute to society, they are employed. If we start shutting out the insurance agencies what happens to all of those jobs?
Michael Moore does point out some interesting things in "Sicko" but it contradicts what your saying. He is giving praise to the healthcare systems like the French and bashing the American system; but from what I read you make it seem like no healthcare system is good. Care to elaborate on your take?
Also, I'm not bashing the democrats because they have come up with a few decent bills lately but they need to continue there good track record since they have both the house and the senate until at least 2010.
Mod parent up!!

Yeah yeah Mars...anyone can do that. 105 days with no TV or internet?
I, for one, welcome our godlike astronaut overlords.
Woa, a few tidbits.

?? The article is clearly talking about super computers not operating systems, silly.
Nobody cares. The ultimate hand-held platform right now is the DS, you can't work around the mind of Miyamoto, he's God of the gaming world.
And I thought me being 15 and reading /. was geeky.
The FCC is the American version of China's MIIT.

Your joking, right?
C&C Has to be the most horrid game I've ever played, totally unworthy of the "Best RTS" title. That title belongs to Starcraft.
Slap Vista on that baby and it'll run like a champ.
He can control the weather AND Microsoft's nuclear missiles.
There really is nothing in the 17-19â range that can project over 1280x1024. If you step it up to 20â though, they have monitors that go up to 1680x1050 which is quite a nice res.
Hereâ(TM)s a list of a what they have in stock on the egg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=1106218475&Description=20%22%20monitor&name=1680%20x%201050

Not so fast there.
I'm currently learning VB and Ruby (Basic, but you said basic), and my hardware knowledge is also proficient. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

What kind of world did you people live in?
Sperm and now urine? I'll take a guess and say the next article will be about crap.
There's a group of wonderful gents right here that would be delighted to give their precious sperm.
Slashdot won't be helped until the secrets of Aspergers Syndrome are "Unlocked"
I like how this story comes up right after MJ's death.

But what about farts?
Silly human, the Terminator Party will conqueror your inferior politics.
