    1. apple did not brick the phones that had 3rd party applications installed. there are many, many people with app.tap whose phones work perfectly fine sans (french for without) those apps.
    the phones in question had modified firmware. read up about it to see what the difference is.

    2. i don't know anything about warranty laws, so i'll just keep my mouth shut. (write that one down)

    If you want to bitch about the iPhone and Apple, bitch about legit things... no iPhone SDK, no "official" way to install useful 3rd party apps, lack of enterprise-support for the device, lack of "open" ringtones etc. Don't complain about things getting borked when you flash modified firmware.

    I think what happened is that a lot of n00bs flashed their firmware without knowing what they were actually doing. Apple (or anyone else) should be under no obligation to dance around all deficiently modified firmware chips out there..

    Does any mobo manufacturers replace CPUs because of wrong overclock settings?

    That's what we get for being paranoid about registering user names.

    Nah, I don't mind them at all. I walk a fine line between seriousness and sarcasm. What sucks is when mods misunderstand me, and mod me troll or flamebait. I had a good post recently about french revolution too, but they didn't get it either. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. And I get a lot of Funny mods, so I can't complain.

    Your dates are imperfect indeed, but simply because you're using an inferior number system. Had you written the dates in their original, true, and proper form, i.e. XVII and XVIII century they would be correct. Your post truly needs to be modded down to .

    Not quite.
    The dealer tells you that he has an upgrade for your car which may cause him to shoot your engine, and asks if you'd still like him to update it.
    Your friends mentioned that this may happen, and that you should hold off on the upgrade as it may result in your engine being shot at.
    Despite all this, you believe that your car is super-special, and gladly accept the upgrade.

    The choice was yours, not dealers.

    Please people, let's quit talking like newbies.
    If you drop your iPhone in the toilet, or if you microwave it, it will become bricked.

    If you simply fudge it up, to the point where it needs to be restored, it is not bricked. Especially if all the other functions on it function.
    I know that there are a lot of Apple haters out here, but we don't need to be confusing tech terms.

    We all know what a brick is, and what a recoverable system is.

    That being said, why the fuck would they apply an update to a hacked and unlocked phone? Hmm, maybe I'll remove my catalyc converter and ask my certified mechanic to keep working on it. You think he'd agree to that? (just to use a car analogy.)

    You make good points, but iTunes doesn't do a bad job of organizing the actual files itself. ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Music/Artist/Album/Song.aac
    Sure the actual ratings and info are in a database, but the files are not "databased" like exchange emails, for example.

    Or, am I misunderstanding this, and you're talking about the music on your player, in which case, yes, a flat, open file structure is the way to go, or should I say would have been, the way to go.

    There you have it.. who the f*** worries about mp3s and their names in this day and age? What, you have time to sift through your whole library and examine song names?
    That, exactly is why iPod is making a killing with the "I don't really care what an mp3 is, I just want to listen to my music wherever I go" crowd.

    Maybe you're not sold on the idea of a DNS system either though, and you like to keep your personal translation list to keep track of names and IPs?
    Sometimes easier really is better.

    The very fact that you're disputing an obvious kludge like inflation can be hazardous to your health.

    But I agree with you, (although I'm far from a physicist) inflation has always seemed like "WTF happened here? Well, it's this crazy thing you see, and we'll select some data to go with it. Heck, we'll even throw some dark matter in there too."
    People should remember that there was a time, not so long ago, when everyone knew that heavens revolve around the Earth. One could see it and predict it with their very eyes!

    It's not like that thing won't be cracked shortly after the implementation.
    Besides, if all the pirated copies of Windows were to be switched to black... dang... that would be a nice day... Linux/OS X marketshare quadruples, spam is be only about 4% of internet traffic.

    I know it's a bit crap, but I must confess to quite liking MS Paint for it's simplicity. When all you need is to crop a screendump and save it as a JPG, nothing beats it!
    Sure it does...
    when you're on the right platform that is...
    cmd-shift-4
    no need for MS Paint, no need for cropping.

    The default saves as .png, but one terminal command can switch it to .jpg.
    Not that Windows noobs would know what a terminal command is.
