My first ever MMORPG is Anarchy Online, which I've started playing last night. If it wasn't for their BitTorrent download, and a free year of playing I wouldn't even consider it. But now, I might not hesitate to pay the full price for an expansion pack, if that need comes up a few months from now, a few months after playing it for free.
Well, i was referring to the article's coy observation that "apple quietly released the iPod update", whereby he made it sound that apple did it quietly so that users wouldn't know what was being done to their iPods.
The point I am trying to make is that all of Apple's updates are quiet and unobtrusive, as opposed to Microsoft's who has released patches that break the OS and various applications.
In all honesty, however, I do remember that one of Apple's patches did hose down some external hard-drives.
You're not a dreamer! Just last week I was trying to play some songs that I've purchased on my '83 monte carlo.
My plan was to rev the engine really high to reproduce the base, rattle the trunk for treble, use the horn for midtones, and rig the muffler for the vocals. But alas! No, nothing works. Fscking Chevy has disabled me to play purchased music on the hardware I OWN! I think other chevy users will join me in hating chevy!
(ps. tip to mods... it's called sarcasm, not trolling)
I was wondering why the update was extra quiet, as opposed to Windows updates which have the whole IS world clamoring and telling users not to update. (ie. SP2)
is because this morning was the first time anyone actually tried to play a song purchased on Harmony on an iPod. (In related news, that was also the first person to actually use Harmony to buy a song!)
Considering that they're a member of the EU, they probably need to watch what they're doing, as opposed to their Balcan neighbors, or the remnants of the USSR.
there's no reason why torrent wouldn't work with DRM. Apple could use the h.264 compression and wrap DRM around it. sure, someone could hack it and unwrap it, like they can with iTunes, but there's not that much of that going on. and for the right price, say 9.99 per movie, and after a 4 hour waiting period (while the movie downloads) majority of people would not boter trying to crack it and share it with their friends.
i think apple has more than enough swing behind its name to be the movie torrent tracker.
Although I'd hate to see torrent trackers get sued, this might have a positive side-effect:
Movies on torrent sites are generally of sub-par quality, the field is ripe for a good distributer to fill the void between the content and paying consumers.
Apple has 2 things going for it: - they have an acceptable DRM policy, and - they have shown users don't mind paying reasonable prices for copyrighted content.
Not to mention that with all the bandwidth apple has, they probably could offer such a service (movies for download).
With a few advances they could start offering movies to be downloaded to iPods, and then played on the TV.
Pfft, don't be a Dummy Dave! The reason why longhorn is taking so many years to write is because they had to abandon their next gen filesystem, and use the, I dunno, the 6 year old one.
You're off your rocker dude. Clooney would be replacing Bogey. And Jude Law would be the new Teen Wolf. (Quickly followed by him starring in Blade Runner, Diary of Bridget Jones 3, and a remake of Jaws)
Ok, since it seems like you must be new to slashdot, I'll give you a couple of pointers: (Mods, don't think this is troll or flamebait, these are just the general pointers!)
- Spielberg used to be a good Sci-Fi director, until he decided that EVERY story must have a happy and somewhat enigmatic ending. He's not regarded as a good director by us higher nerds.
- Cruise is a scientologist. Apart from being totaly nuts, and divorced from that fine piece of ass that is Nicole Kidmann, this makes him lame as well. If you don't know what scientology is about, do a search on google for operation clambake, or xenu. Most of us slashbots are familiar with the premise of scientology and its crazy father L. Ron Hubbard (of the Battlefield Earth "fame") (John Travolta is also a scientologist and to a lesser extent lamer.)
- So these two commercial whores (with tremendous popular appeal) are remaking one of the best Sci-Fi stories, which is very dear to our hearts. In no way is it acceptable to say that it looks "worth checking out" And they're setting it in contemporary times, because they're under the impression that today's audience can't relate with "funny speaking islanders" who didn't even have cars, portable machineguns, or jet airplanes to fight these aliens off. (The reasoning, of course, being that today's society is so fucking smart and benevolent that without our technology, no amount of resourcefulnes, or luck could save us. We need an asskicking cutie to save our helpless asses.)
Mr. More did a fine job with an adaptation of War of the Worlds in the League of Extraordinary Gentelmen II graphic novel.
In summary: Cruise = Crazy, Lame; Spielberg = Lame Cruise + Spielberg = Crazy, and Extra Lame
Nice going, maybe they'll mention us in one of their shows!
Anarchy Online is currently being distributed via BitTorrent.
The whole system worked very nice for me.
Santa Claus, aka. Chris Crigle, has been shot.
Movie at 11.
Thank you sir,
NovaSearch rocked.

not only is there no subscription fee, but they're giving the original away for free according to their site.
i've been curious about galaxies, WoW, and some others, but I've always stayed away from them because of the monthly subscription fees.
I know what i'm downloading after work tonight!
And best of all they're doing it with BitTorrent!
awesome!
Ahh, yes, the fine, quick-buck-making south neighbors;)
(I can make fun of them, because I'm one of them)

well, of course PT Barnum never said that, mr pointdexter.
His lesser known brother Brad did, hence... BT Barnum.

I checked out your Kuro5hin page, and one thing stands out:
Bill Janklow incident in which he was driving intoxicated and killed a motorcyclist.
It really has nothing to do with the republican party, or their criminal activities.
It could have happened to anyone who drives drunk, and there's no evidence that republicans do it more often than democrats.
His real name is John P.Ennis.
No troll would pick a name as obvious as that.
What is wrong with ./?
His name is John P.Ennis and no one is cracking jokes about it?
Did I miss a memo or something?
te-hee
Thank you, that was awesome.
Glass Elevator eh?
sounds pretty kinky. Clooney might be interested...

Tom Cruise is going to meditate them off the earth.
"Be free little aliens! Be free..."
Cruise...Spielberg...
dum-dum-dum
