  3. What if the paradoxes did occur? on Testing Einstein's 'Spooky Action at a Distance' · · Score: 0

What if the paradoxes occurred? They may seem like paradoxes to us, but it may mean that time is not just the 4th dimension, but rather, there's more than one dimension of time. This could be our first step into actually seeing ourselves as more than just 4 dimensional entities. If this discovery actually happens, I don't know about the rest of you, but I would definitely be calling it the first Singularity. A historic moment soon to happen!

Heh... I said historic... how quaint that word sounds now, this may be one of the last times it's used with quite the same meaning.

"everything I see is a poor derivative of various genres that were already done"

Wow you just discovered how most music is made. Every time an artist picks a "style" of music to compose, even if it's with a twist, he is in fact borrowing from the past. The "original" music you so loved from your youth just means that you were too young to remember or notice what came before.

Musically, getting old means noticing this process.

As an aside, since music can be traced, musical genealogy is an absolutely fascinating subject. Try looking into it sometime.

In Russia, they are starting to throw pirates (even teachers) into Siberian prison camps. If they started doing something like that in Argentina, do you think everyone would buy Windows, or switch to Linux? Or would most people just take the risk?

I'm curious to know what the opinions on this matter are from Slashdotters who happen to live in these developing countries where piracy is rampant. Anyone from such a country, please respond.

I had an evil boss once. He was quite the tyrant. He had a habit of making customers (and employees) cry. His motto was "everyone's replacable". While technically true, it's not something you want to repeat every day to career employees.

My boss regularly gave to charity, and made sure it was always very public and visible, so as many employees and customers could see that he was such a good man who gave to charity. It seemed that he was far more concerned about the visible act of giving, than the actual charity. Could you imagine why?

The article above trumpets how good and charitable Mr. Gates is. That is exactly what Mr. Gates paid for.

""It's not because of some magical superiorty science that normal people need either, it's mostly because multiplying by 10 is a lot easier than multiplying by 12 then 16 then 8, or whatever!""

*NOTE* I love metric, but imperial is superior in one small way. Here's how.

Feet vs. Inches is the only unit of measurement that makes some sense in Imperial, the rest is drek and should be abolished. You say multiplying is harder, and I tend to agree with you. However, division is generally easier.

Take a measurement in Metric, and divide by an integer... ie 2, 3, 4, 6... Chances are, you'll get some form of crazy fraction and/or repeating decimal. With feet and inches, you are more likely to get a round number, because there are double the factors to a base 12 number system (2, 3, 4, 6) than a 10 system (2 and 5 only). This makes many things, especially construction documents, simpler and easier to read, and easier to work with. However, when you mess up with imperial division, you can also get some really nasty fractions. All and all, the construction industry is the only place I have seen a reasonable and effective use of Imperial.

And the worst thing I have ever seen is mixing Imperial and Metric systems on the same construction document. I'm sure hell has a special level devoted to just such messes. For that reason alone I would love to see imperial die, through no fault of it's own merits in this instance.
