  1. A little off on one prediction... on A Timeline of the Future · · Score: 1

I'm not even supposed to know this, let alone say anything about it, but one of his predictions will be coming true sooner than he predicted. One of the predictions is that in 2005 shopping lists will be automatically compiled by supermarkets. A certain Springfield, Mass based grocery chain which will remain unnamed for my job's security is almost ready to roll out such a system. You'll be able to walk up to a kiosk in the store, scan your store "loyalty card", and print out a list for you of what you normally buy, highlighting what itmes are on sale this week, and offering on-sale alternatives to some items on your list (i.e. let you know Pepsi 12pks are on sale if you regularly buy Coke 12pks). From what I've heard, almost all the backend code is done, short of a few bugs to work out. They have some more front-end coding to do for the kiosks(store maps, a stupid slot-machine game we already have on the registers, and a few other things) before they roll it out.

MusicCity's Morpheous and the others based on the same core software (Kazaa, etc.) can all download one file from more than one machine at once. After a file is queued for download, right click it and select "Find more locations..." or something of that sort, and it will start downloading it from as many different servers as it can find. I don't know about any other P2P services, but I imagine at least some of the others can do the same, especially considering the capability to do that has been in software like GetRight for many years now.

This really isn't anything new... Our good friends at DoubleClick have been on top of this for a LONG time. I live in the tiny little state of Connecticut, but for at least the last year and a half I've been getting ads targeted for CT while browsing national and international sites. It started with banner ads for ctnow.com well over a year ago, followed closely by ads trying to get me to subscribe to The Hartford Courant. Now in the last month or so, SBC/SNET(which only serves CT, and yes, the ads are branded with the SNET part of the name, not just as SBC) has been putting on a really annoying campaign for their DSL services that include popunders and big flashy graphics. It's disgusting.

Yes, but that means nothing as to "supporting" the systems. I doubt they've made more than a dozen Win95 CD's since Win98 came out and was accepted by the masses. Also, IIRC, doesn't Win98 also come with M$Java on the CD? Microsoft might just be using it as a scapegoat to dump it. (note: that's all theory. I have no facts on hand at this time to support it.)

No start bar, no Mac bar, and I couldn't see the cursor well enough to get an idea if it was X. 5) Purchasing a value meal gives you a token good for 15 minutes--if you wanted a long browsing session, you could collect tokens for a while and then piss off a lot of people waiting in line behind you. 6) There is an on-site admin. 7) There is a bar at the top with a time clock telling you how much you have left and it appears to have navigation controls. and, the kicker....(not directly related, tho.) 7) There are as many access terminals(2) in this Burger King as there are in the Hartford Public School System, which, BTW, is the only one run by the state of CT instead of the town.
