    if I was born in india, SURE, I'd give ALL OF THAT UP (what is that, again, that they have that is so wonderful there?) to move to the US where we have reliable power, reliable food safety, clean living conditions, NOT SHIT IN THE STREETS EVERYWHERE, not the rampant corruption that india has, etc etc.

    no brainer.

    now, if you ask me, american-born to give up what we have and move to some hellhole, no, I won't do it.

    and why should I have a lower standard of living because GREEDY EMPLOYERS simply want indentured servants working for them who can't say 'no' to any boss' request?

    import labor, at this point, is ALL about lowering working-class wages to the point of starvation.

    we rarely hire the 'best and brightest'. I have lived in the bay area over 25 years and I work in tech - its my whole life. I see who comes thru the interviews and who our companies hire. its all indian. and those guys are ok programmers (often) but they are RARELY the 'best and brightest'. what they are - are people who are afraid to say no and will do anything to stay in the US because its better than the hellhole they came from.

    so, another fuck-you for your stupid comment.

    when our own people can't find jobs, its NOT the time to outsource and out-hire from other countries. selling out your own people makes you a total piece of shit human being who only cares for the current quarter's profit statement.

    I was a member for a few years.

    I didn't mind the classes that much. I saw many kids use laser cutters and fuck them up. their parents just let them run wild there and that was a really bad idea. some kid just stared at one of the cutters while it caught fire (!) and he just STOOD THERE, gaping. I had to open the cover and blow out the flames. stupid idyut!

    so, yes, you HAVE to take 'safety' classes on $30k epilogue laser cutters and such.

    I'm just so bummed out that I now have no other place to go to do my laser cutting, and I counted on that place, too.

    zero notice to customers. thanks, guys. really appreciate it. even 1 week notice would have let us finish our projects.

    fuckers! ;(

    'parents' are impressed.

    all my single friends, of all ages, are highly annoyed at the TSA bullshit and they realize its all fake nonsense that does nothing but wastes time, money and degrades us all.

    BUT - the parents out there - especially the moms - they change when they have kids. all of a sudden, their precious snowflakes' lives are all that matter and ANYTHING that gives the illusion of safety for them, they'll buy into.

    today, they call them helicopter parents and they totally overdue that crap. they don't let kids be kids, run outside on their own, go play in the woods alone or with friends, they always have to be in sight and there is this notion of 'stranger danger'. a single male with a beard is the scariest thing to these soccer moms.

    so, yes, I blame the politicions that play on the MOMS' fear. they are easy to control and they want to believe they will live forever thru their offspring and if their offspring gets killed, their family line ends. that seems to terrify some people, for some reason, and they'll do anything to have the illusion of permanence.

    think about it. soccer moms are mostly to blame for this because they are SO controlled by fear and emotion.

    I just have not seen childless people (singles or couples) fear 'terrorists' and life, in general, as much as parents.

    emotion is running our country and that's just SO wrong. but its what we now have and it seems that we're stuck with it until/unless someone grows a spine and is ready to deal with the real world and all its ups AND downs.

    basically, the FBI, CIA, NSA all are just a bunch of cron jobs.

    every 'n' days, they wake up, cry about not being able to stroll thru ALL our communications, find some trendy 'scare' story of the day and bind to it so that they can emotionally keep attacking our personal freedoms and privacy.

    every fucking time, that cron job fires, we try to silence it. but its persistent and as some have said, they're playing a long-game, here. they will KEEP trying until they find an emotional weakness and get an 'open' to create even more restrictive anti-privacy laws.

    many of us see this. but it does not matter. those that see it are not in a position to stop it. and those that can stop it,do not EVER want to stop it. they are addicts on a power trip and there's no cure for their hunger ;(

    I don't know how similar the oleds are between the $10 hobby i2c modules ('maker stuff') and the oled big color screens; but I've built quite a few of the 1.13" i2c oled display projects and one of them has been a gps clock that has been on for at least 2 years now. its display cycles between calendar and some other modes but the display is always on. and its already showing 'lines' of fade, based on which pixels were lit the most.

    on my diy projects, I put the oleds in sockets so they can be replaced later. of course, phones are so ANTI FIX-ME (hardware) that they'd never think of letting users replaced worn out screens. sigh...

    the working class falls for it because, well, religion. its the main force in mind control and sadly, it seems to work.

    those in power generally 'love' religion, because it does their work for them. it keeps the 99% in their place and promises that if they don't rise up against the 1% now, that they'll get a nice place in heaven, later on. suffer now (while we win) and you'll 'win' later.

    its mass mind control and most people seem to believe this. this allows them to be so completely controlled, they are mostly not even aware of it.

    a few years ago, I was flown down to so-cal (near san diego, more or less) and it was for a very tech position (I write code, I design circuits, etc).

    the recruiter (who was in europe, for some odd reason) told me to 'dress up'. I laughed. in the bay area, where I live, I often go to interviews in jeans and sometimes even shorts. I only own sandals, shoes that fully cover my feet are not comfortable and the bay area weather lets me wear those without issue.

    so I got flown down to so-cal, and yes, they blew me off because of how I was dressed! the hiring manager actually talked about it. I could not believe it!

    it would not have been a good match for me; its too conservative down there and this 'dress issue' kind of demonstrates that.

    I usually would not trust a recruiter telling me to dress-up for an engineering job, but in this one case, she was right.

    now, in the bay area, I'd never wear a tie to an interview, or a dress jacket. but in some less progressive areas, yeah, they still seem to care about such stupid things as 'dress code' for engineers.

    the suits want a bunch of things:

    - low pay for the worker bees

    - abusable workforce with little experience to be able to say 'no, I wont work that weekend. I already worked too many in a row'

    - energy level; I'll give the kids that; they have more energy, but there's a lot more to writing code than pure energy

    - they are not set in their ways; so you can 'program' them to your culture, even if its a toxic culture

    there are lots of reasons. the elephant in the room knows all this, but the media are not allowed to mention it (a third rail, don't touch!)

    its amazing how few people know about this, outside of tech. I tell people all the time and they have a hard time believing me.

    I love how this was passed thru (the law) because of male/female pay issues.

    the REAL issue is that it makes negotiating a one-way street, with the company having all the power and you have nearly none.

    'the first one to mention a number, loses'

    that's how the old saying goes when you are haggling.

    and yet, there's few ways out of this game, especially since you can't just mark 'market rate' on the online hr forms.

    its all about keeping you in your place. the god damned 'job creators' that we have been worshipping really don't have our needs in mind; they could not care less if we all starved and died on the streets. lots of indians to come over and work for a fraction of what a US person needs to live on.

    good that this passed thru; but sad that it had to be couched as a male/female thing instead of 'strong company/weak worker' negotiation balancing.

    either way, I expect companies to find loopholes to work around this 'unpleasent' rebalance of power.

    maybe, but how could we ever tell? most things G works on, they cancel. they are the short-attention-span company of the century (or whole modern age). never saw any entity start something, get it going and then abandon it so much as G does.

    now, back to the government. yes, they are corrupt assholes in charge right now, but there have been times when we actually got our money's worth. roads, infra, jobs programs - we used to take care of our own! we could always do better, but its really rotton right now. but that as it may, its still not a reason to avoid paying taxes when you make SO MUCH and refuse to kick back to the locale. we really do need roads to be fixed, waterways, plumbing, electrical, sewer, COMMUNICATIONS! (the US is still in the dark ages when it comes to internet speeds for so many of us).

    our country needs the taxes. the fact that the current crop of assholes in charge would misspend it is still not a valid reason for the rich co's like G and A to avoid paying taxes. I can't avoid paying taxes; it makes me extremely mad that rich guys get away with this, and their money is much more needed than the tiny amount I earn (and then return to the government).

    tax shelters are immoral. they are unfair by very definition and they only serve the richest people; and those are the ones who certainly need NO more help, thankyouverymuch.

    if america needed an education about what the R's stand for, they sure got one this time around. anything that helps consumers, the R's are blatantly against. (can you cite anything that contradicts this?)

    I realize that slash has been invaded by the R fans (even though as a tech forum, most of us are clearly NOT R-based in our thinking) but before you mod me down, I'd like you to cite an example of where a modern R has stood up for the regular guy and not for the ultra rich and powerful.

    I'm hoping that this tire fire called 'trump admin' really ruins a lot of people; especially those in red states. they need a harsh awakening and a wake-up call. they have been misled and have been guided into voting against their own best interests.

    I wonder if people really will realize this. I hear lots of talk, but when the next election comes, I have a feeling that the reds will forget all this harm that was done to our country and will follow their 'religion' and continue to fund those that work against the common man.

    in the bay area, the lockers are pretty common. at 7-11 stores and supermarkets.

    a benefit: if you deliver to a locker and change your mind, after 3 days they pick up the unclaimed item and refund you, you pay nothing, not shipping to or from (if you have Prime). for things I'm not sure about, I might order and have it locker-delivered and I have 3 days to decide if I really want that thing or not.

    at my apt. complex, they also have lockers and will email you a code for opening the locker. problem is, its new to delivery people and many of them are lazy or in too much of a hurry and simply give the pkgs to the receptionist and they have their own mailroom, which closes at 6pm (nice; I work till 7pm most nites, so I can't get my stuff if it goes into the mailroom). if the delivery guy DOES do his job and uses the locker, I can get to it 7x24.

    lockers are the answer. not keys to someone's house!! damn. why that idea even got more than 2 minutes of time, that's beyond me! there's zero way to make it safe to give drivers access to your HOUSE interior. wow, just wow.

    amazon can't be serious. but they are probably looking for our responses to see if there are ideas WE have that they have not thought of. I can't believe any company would think its good to give strangers access to your home!

    I've never seen aac on bt audio devices. it must be an apple thing.

    apt-x low latency is the new standard; apt-x HD is even newer.

    those are the only ones that are not vendor specific.

    the people had their democracy taken from them. now that corps are 'people', our amount of money donations don't even come close to the 'corp citizens' (united) amount of BRIBERY they are capable of.

    unless something fundamental changes, we truly are fucked for the long-run, in this country. regular people have no say anymore, both R and D are in the pocket of big business (R a little more; plus they think they're the jesus party and lots of their base are too dumb to realize its all a con). the R's don't care about the little guy and the D's pretty much gave up, too.

    this country is done for. it will take a long time to hit bottom, but we're on that race-to-the-bottom curve and have been for well over 20 years, now. no stopping in sight until we do hit bottom.

    sucks to be america right now.

    cops have usb devices (israel has made quite a few, which I have real issues with, but that's for another thread) that scan ALL the known major phone types and extract data.

    I have a hard time believing that apple phones don't have a hidden backdoor that the israelis have found and sold to the LEOs.

    its the best kept secret. and likely, apple is lying about how secure their systems are. they want us to think that, but I'm pretty sure the LEOs and their little usb stealie device have access to ALL major phone types.
