  1. Fact? All the easy efficiency and cost gains have been realized. Chart the efficiency of solar panels over the years and you will see that a doubling is completely unrealistic.

    Solar isn't being adopted on islands because it is ridiculously cheap, it's because fuel and electricity on islands is ridiculously expensive.

    Especially since battery density has a hard ceiling dictated by the laws of chemistry and physics. An electric jumbo jet is never going to happen. Fuel is stored in aircraft wings with a very large surface area, so hydrogen jumbo jet is never going to happen.

  4. I love how people pull dates out of there ass. If the thesis is even partially correct oil will get cheaper and people will continue to run gas cars. There will continue to be a demand for gas cars and auto makers will continue to make them. The world is not black and white.

  6. Or more likely individuals and companies with sunk costs and investments like cars and power plants will switch over when it makes economic sense, which will take decades.

    That's not really hard to believe. Air conditioning with old style cfcs was a lot better... old cars used to frost the outlet vents.

    The best theory that I heard was there is some kind of crossover from regenerative braking to friction breaking... favoring power regeneration increases charge life but decreases braking efficiency.
