    Where did you find moral judgements in my comment? I was responding to the PP which implied that these drugs don't make you smarter. I doubt the academics take these drugs to 'get smarter'.

    It's sad that science revolves around getting funding for projects and entails so much drudgery.

    This might be funny, but not insightful. There is still a market for Z80 chips.. embedded applications generally use the right tool for the job.

    This is my point exactly. CPU manufacturers right now are shooting for pointless engineering goals, just like a 400mph car would be.

    It's a valid point.... if the 'speed' of cars increased at the rate it did during the beginning of the century, we'd be driving 400mph cars around.
    We are certainly capable of making cars that are that fast, but they wouldn't really be any more useful or provide more utility than a slower car.

    That is over 1 million per computer! And they use the term 'develop', does that even include the cost of the compter. Heck, I'll do it for 50,000$ per computer. Insane!

    In 2006, the Census Bureau awarded a $595 million contract to Harris Corp. to develop more than 525,000 handheld computers that enumerators would use to collect data from Americans who did not send in their census forms. The handhelds would replace the millions of costly paper forms and maps that enumerators must carry when going door to door to visit Americans who did not mail in their census forms. Since awarding the contract, the project has experienced constant setbacks, including changing system requirements that led to increased costs and missed deadlines. Reports by the Government Accountability Office, the department's inspector general and Mitre Corp. all issued warnings that the handhelds were at risk of not being ready by 2010 and may not work as planned.

    One thing that seems to have been missed is if this guy has worked at any job... if he hasn't then it would be good for him to do anything, it helps to learn how to work with people.

    I had the pleasure of growing up in one of the few really integrated towns/school districts. I had many black friends but none that would invite me over because they were afraid of what their father would say.
    Rev. Wright is sadly enough the norm...

    It would be nice if we could brush the situation under the rug, but we can't and we shouldn't. I don't believe that Obama shares the Rev. thinking, and I can understand why he doesn't disown him.

    Watts are watts. A 250 watt argon bulb will make the same amount of heat as a 250 watt incadecant. As the visible wavelengths are bounced around the room they are converted to heat energy.

    I had to laugh at this one. What 'green' options were there 10 or 15 years ago? And what would you do if your enterprise became processor constrained every 3 or 4 months?
    You called yourself lucky if something like a router or cd burner even worked correctly-- I think tech purchasing is much easier now, not sure what it has to do with the generation you were born in.

    If you know anything about psychology they will tell you that positive reinforcment only works with a certain amount of negative reinforcement.
