    No shit, I've spent time as a programmer both helping cyber security and administrators with server issues. I guess I deserve a shiny star or something......

    Unfortunately though this equates to a subsidy for a fairly evil company, although you can't be that mad at them because they are nowhere near turning a profit.

  6. They used to be terrible but the last couple of years I have had good service, including a move a few months ago that went flawlessly. My monthly usage is low and I have been able to negotiate good rates for high bandwidth service.

    This argument is baloney. Lines to go through security have to be somewhere and are a prime target. The fact of the matter is that if someone is determined and has the know how they can do this no matter what precautions are taken.

    Yes, I wrote a can algorithm once, it was full of netbeans. Very difficult!

    If you look at the value of of IBM I highly question that anything of 'real benefit' has been done by management in a long time.

    Turbos that don't start leaking oil and otherwise cause the destruction of the engine haven't been around as nearly as long.

    Baloney stuff like variable valve timing and direct injection increase power and fuel efficiency. Turbocharging does same thing for small displacement engines.

  23. I know lots of /. ers here are really prickly about ageism, but it's there for a reason. I'm 46 and definitely admit that age takes it's toll. Luckily, when I screw up it means something might not compile the first time but I imagine in the non-virtual world the effects might be a worse.

    Also suppose the core of the earth solidifies and loses it's magnetism, this could be used to prevent the atmosphere from evaporating into space.
