you have a lot of choices.... you can run Windows on build your own hardware, run windows on a pre-built system, run Linux on either of those choices, or you can run OS X on a pre built Apple made machine.
I for one do all of the above... I don't know why some folks don't *get* that Apple controlling the OS and hardware make for a GREAT user experience. I use Win for some testing stuff, Linux for servering and some development, and a Mac for 90% of my daily activities..... why? It WORKS.
Obviously, for you it may not be the best choice, but you DO have a choice... don't buy a Mac. Don't bitch about it.

Flash done right is a good thing... meaning, if it's used when it IMPROVES a site's functionality / helps it meet it purpose. Belive it or not, that *can* happen. Unfortunately, you have to wade through the 103298489 "Skip Intro" pieces of crap out there to find a good one....
Problem is, Flash is so easy to use, any idiot can make stuff in it... the other problem is, Marketing folks like stuff that's shiny and blinks... and THEY are the ones the usually makes decisions on what makes it to the homepage.... =(
Becaue they realize the SW and Licences were PAID FOR, and so the party that bought them can then sell them, as long as the terms aren't violated, whcih emans if the SW was in a box, it get's uninstalled from the machine it was on, and goes back in the box. If it was preinstalled, and you AGREED that the SW "lives" on that box forever, you sell the box, and the SW goes with it.
If I am a mega-corp, and I have 10,000 boxes running Oracle, and then I suddenly become a Luddite and ban technology from my company, Oracle will watch quietly as I sell the boxes.... because I have every legal right to do so.
This is why M$ want's to switch to the "leased" software service model.. they CAN terminate your lease at will... so if you LEASING your OS / DB Server software, etc. from them, and then sell the computers, M$ can cancel the lease, and you have a "dead" PC

IE supports both the "right" way and an M$ only way of doing things.
So it's quite easy to write one set of code that ie5+ and Mozilla use to dothe same thing. However, thanks to certain organizations promoting the other way of doing things, some web devs write code that only works in IE.... which then perpetuates taht "all other browsers but IE suck" because "wow, look how good it works in IE but it breaks in _____."
Don't use DHTML. It's pain in the ass. If you want "cool" stuff that makes Web sites non-accessable, use Flash. You only have to write one set of code then.
Please send me the source to your IE embedded app so I can edit it then compile and run it on my Linux box.. or my Mac box.. or my BeOS box, or my Solaris box.
