    This MIT class on the shuttle is very interesting. It appears that if done today the shuttle would have been able to perform much closer to its promises because they could have put diagnostics into the engines and saved themselves from having to take them out after every launch.

    I would bet money that the Tesla Roadster has better handling, better acceleration, and is more fun to drive than your car. Oh and it's a full electric that can go 245 miles on a single charge.

    Don't forget discharge rates, it's great if it can store a bunch of energy but if it can't discharge it fast enough to propel the airplane it's useless.

    SpaceX has said publicly that it will hold to it's published prices, if there are cost overruns they eat the cost.

    Oh come on not all cops are douches. What would you do if a cop came up to you and asked "hey can I talk to you for a second, we're looking for an old guy about this tall, white. Can you help me out at all?" Would you say "No I don't have to talk to you" as soon as he/she approached you or would you try to help?

    Who needs a hybrid when Tesla can make a car with a range of 300 miles? Yeah I know that model is like 80k but their design philosophy is to start at the high end where $100k (Roadster) isn't ridiculous and then work down.

    I was reading an article today about it, 5.2 million passengers per day which is double the total number of airline travelers and they manage to keep it safe an efficient. They use a system of bomb sniffing dogs, live cameras, armed personnel (everywhere, on the trains, in the terminal, and above ground), and they train their guys to be on the lookout for odd behavior and they have random bag searches. I think there are something like 600+ terminals and they are all safe, why can't the TSA learn from NYPD?

    Isn't learning what it takes to build human habitats on other worlds valuable? Just the act of sending humans to Mars would teach us a lot about living in space, sure we won't really learn much about Mars but if we want to live on the planet someday we have to learn about putting humans in space. I don't think it's what NASA's main mission should be right now but putting humans in space is a science that's worth learning.

    Just a thought, maybe the really smart people designing the escape rockets that will also serve as propulsive landing rockets have actually thought about the thrust requirements and are gonna maybe try to meet them.

    SpaceX-Make getting into space profitable through lower costs

    Constellation-Line the pockets of Congressmen and women who's districts might be able to make a part for it.

    The reason they exceeded expectation was because the expectation was low-balled, it was basically when enough dirt would accumulate to prevent the rover from functioning, turns out there's enough wind to blow the dirt off.

    Isn't Social Security supposed to run a surplus until like 2040?

    The biggest problem I see with Social Security is the mindset that it's a personal retirement fund, not that it's an investment by the younger generation in the well being of the elder generation. When looked at from that perspective it doesn't make sense that no money after 100k/yr has the Social Security tax.

    Only if they make money on those units. I think they run a profit on each one now but I'm not sure. The real money in consoles is licenses for games.
