The community college I went to was pretty laid back with most instructors being called by their last name. The other community college in the district was more uptight with instructors insisting on being called "Instructor" before their last name. Never understood that stick-up-the-wazoo attitude, as they were teaching the same material and getting paid the same rate.

I'm a full time engineer who has taught a few classes. I felt like things worked better when I wasn't really positioned above the student. I taught the classes as I'm an engineer and I'm going to try to bring you up to the same level of knowledge. How you e-mail me, how you address me, I don't really care as long as it isn't offensive. When we get to homework or projects, I will tell the students up front it better be written up properly or it will be graded down. But there is time for being formal and time where it just doesn't matter.

No, the question is whether they should be regulated. Appraisals have specific regulations, so if people are using this service in lieu of actual appraisal services...

To me, this seems a bit like Uber claiming "we're not a taxi service" while blatantly offering a slightly different sort of taxi service. Just because they claim "this isn't an appraisal service" doesn't mean it actually *isn't* an appraisal service. They may end up winning if there's a legal definition of "appraisal" that they don't match, of course. I really don't know enough about appraisals or this case to have much of an opinion.

An actual appraisal does require a certified appraiser, at least in some situations: "All states require appraisers to be state licensed or certified in order to provide appraisals to federally regulated lenders. Some states require appraisers to be licensed or certified to provide appraisals for other parties as well." http://www.appraisalinstitute....

This seems to me a bit like suing a website that provides free legal advice with the caveat that they are not lawyers so their advice has no legal standing.

I don't buy paper books because I don't have any real place to store them when I'm done. I don't buy e books when they cost more than physical books. As a result I don't really buy as many books as I used to.

How does an AI driven car recognize it just blew through a stop sign unless a human on board tells them or some other indication, like crashing into another car?

I think increased processing power will help with bringing in related processing. Not just looking for major things like a recognized stop sign or traffic light, but perhaps observing cross traffic ahead to infer an intersection and then broaden what is accepted as a valid traffic light or stop sign. Or perhaps just integrated road maps to recognize upcoming intersections.

They should not need to be reminded, especially with such a drastic action. They should be thankful that the workers are there to help them profit, and they should offer them fair compensation for their work without them having to beg, plead... or strike.

Not to mention I've basically used the same type of tactic myself. After years of raises below increase in living I got a job offer for a 10% pay increase, when I told my company they gave me 15% increase to stay. If only I could get this kind of thing done without the threat of not working.

Then I got myself a flat screen to put in the living room when I got married and started watching again. Yeesh. Good riddance to the trash merchants. Less money for them means more people are realizing they're putting out crap.

As far as I know, my area doesn't have any forging groups. Forged in Fire could be better at talking about the process but it is still interesting to have in the background. My local short track doesn't open up for a few more weeks so races on television is the best available option for this at the moment, even though they pretty much ignore most of the engineering. WW2 documentaries and similar are great reads but seeing the video fills in a lot of the gaps my imagination fails at.

And watching this on TV makes a lot more sense while I'm working on graduate studies and doctoral research. Bringing my laptop along with me while I go outside and do something isn't that practical. No I'm not going to do the research work with the TV off, in a dead silent room I end up starting at the same line of text for minutes before my brain reengages. Nice nearly mindless background noise works nice to look up for a minute and then go back to studies.
