Wikipedia is a source of information. Not news.

Info about Pikachu is kept not just because of interest, but it's also objectively verifiable from a number of sources. However, it's not intended as a blog or a local newspaper used for cores of a local high school basketball game, where only local residents may or may not be able to validate the information or find it interesting.

Otherwise, what's to prevent me from inventing a fictional game using real town and high school and reporting on it where the lead scorer scored 300 points? Or I can write an autobiographical article about my fortune that's tied up in an account in Nigeria.

I think that the danger here is that, if it's perfected, this will be a easy sell for airport security. Now, we don't have to take off our shoes and take out laptops. They'll be able to scan for "incorrect thought" without physical contact. This

How soon after that before it is mounted in intersections and high ways instead of security cameras? Even thinking about speeding (and general road rage) might be illegal...

  5. Porn will skip the "next gen" medias on Porn Industry May Not Decide Format War · · Score: 1

Porn will not decide next gen because it does not make sense for them to play.

In the 80's there was no internet and no broadband, so recorded media was the only way to distribute their products. Now, porn can be distributed in standard def easily over internet. It cuts out (or at least marginalizes) the middle man, it reduces up-front manufacturing costs, and they get to charge per view. It also allows for them to develop additional features for their clients.

So, why would they even want to play the HD game, especially since it would only serve to hurt the fantasy that porn sells?

I think that the pro's and cons of the beta both are related in how it tries to emulate Outlook.

It's nice that it has a familiar interface compared to desktop apps. However, it also lost a nice feature which allowed me to select messages that I know are spam and report them. Now, I actually have to select the message (downloading the images that might contain trojans, etc) before I can report them.

If it fails, no skin off their back as all the risk is borne by Philly citizens.

The simple fact of the matter is that making an a la carte package is extremely expensive. NOT from the content cost perspective, but from the maintenance perspective. Every a la carte item needs to be programmed, price maintained, trained to the CSR's and the more a la carte item, the more expensive it is. All it would get them is the small percentage elite prosumers which have no loyalties anyway and are only after lowest cost or highest tech, which means either less revenue or more cost, respectively. Neither is interesting to the cable co's

Whereas the current HDD is at 102x147x26 / 750GB or 389844mm^3 / 750GB or ~519mm^3/GB, beating out the optical by ~20%

Let's not even get to the cost / GB and the tech maturity. The only advantage that the holo may hold is in transfer speed, which the article does not address. Tho iirc, the numbers from older articles on holo tech left me underwhelmed in that category as well

Also the form factor was an extremely poor choice. It's not a matter of accidentally shoving a cartridge into the DVD drive, but that most cases and drive cages will NOT have a slot of appropriate size, requiring either an custom external solution or a custom case for the entire machine to host this drive internally. The suburban lifestyle was an idea cooked up by the auto industry to battle the train industry in the 30's, clearly, the auto industry won.
