    Nothing *forces* Nvidia to write drivers at all. It's their own choice.

    GPL is a protection against abuse. The only freedom-restriction is that people are disallowed to abuse the freedoms granted by GPL.

    Nvidias propriatary software *IS* the exact opposite of freedom for anyone silly enough to use it.

    As for quality of software being better on Windows, that's sadly true sometimes. GPL won't change, it's practically set in stone to guarantee freedom. Nvidia however, can choose to create free drivers, just as many others do. Blame Nvidia for failing to meet the costumers needs.

    Microsoft likes to slap their Microsoft logo (ad) on things, it doesn't mean they built any of them.
    More likely Made in China than Made by Microsoft. But that goes for most hardware.

    Around the mid '00 i had a floppy binge period. I took parts from one floppy-cable and placed
    on a second connector - allowing A: and B: floppies on a single cable.
    But XP refused to read/write from both floppies at the same time.
    Can't remember how it worked on Linux...

    I changed the Registry and placed the Windows logs (.evt files) on floppy. And those creepy WBEM .log files.

    I suspect that a floppy spin-up uses less power than a HardDrive spin-up from sleep.

    In any case i get the wonderful ka-chick ka-chuck sounds randomly several times a-day. Windows is very log-happy.

    And it interrupts our thinking for longer than those split seconds. And emotionally it annoy us and feeling often stays even longer.

    My brother did a fun thing with a tele-marketer. He said that he *was* interested in buying socks or whatever,
    and said politely: Could you wait for a few moments, i'll be right back.
    "Sure".
    Then he left the phone for 30min.
    And then hung up.

    I'm on Duckduckgo as my primary search engine. But for 10-20% of searches i did

    But then i realized StartPage.com uses Google for the text results. And Startpage
    has better results quality than G because there's no Google bubble-censoring.

    I've switched to Palemoon portable, http://www.palemoon.org/

    o It's noticeably quicker than Mozilla Firefox.
    o It comes with proper StatusBar by default.
    o It has a few improved default settings, less memory bloat.
    o No silent, forced, auto-updates that may suddenly brake things.

    Drawbacks,
    - It's Windows only. No native version for Linux, BSD, Mac etc.

    I also have Opera USB portable ready in case i get bored.

    They test the horses health carefully during the games. I think it's time to start testing the humans. The humans are also being pushed beyond what's healthy.

    The hosts file can be shortened even more by appending blocked IPs, rather than a line for each. Like so,

    0 badIP-1 badIP-2 badIP-3

    And the localhost line can shortened to,

    127.1 localhost

    Works in XP and 2003.

    Your wrong in many cases where the repair is trivial and easy.
    Your right, in many other cases it's not worth it money-wise. But there's additional benefits of repair.
    o Exploring new stuff.
    o Improving your existing skills.
    o Socialize with other people. IRL!
    o Just the *attempt* at helping someone is highly valuable.
