    Just after Win7 was released Microsoft begun making Windows8.
    They say Win8 is due 2012.

    Microsoft also have begun planning for Windows9. I guess Microsoft
    want Windows running on those big boats after the world ended...

    I agree that common sense helps to aviod several viruses.

    But 'Linux dont have viruses because it's not as popular as Windows' is a myth.

    Example, Apache is far more popular then Microsoft IIS, yet Apache has near-zero viruses.
    Also fun is that running Windows-programs in Wine is much safer then running them
    in Windows.
    Linux security model has fundamental differences from all Windows versions.
    Windows simply wasnt made from the ground-up with proper security in mind. And now
    Windows has grown in size that a re-write is impossible.

    Even when/if Linux becomes 100% popular and all the worlds criminals etc tries
    to create malware for Linux, they wont succeed in building one that spreads. Each
    machine must be infected one by one, manually by each user. These users must be
    dumb enough to manually infect themselfs *while* smart enough to know how to do so.
    Any automatic spread will be extremly rare and extremly short-lived, if it ever
    happens at all.
    There will never be a need for running anti-malware to protect Linux.

    I noticed a few wind-mills in the Trilogy so they could expand that and invent
    steam-power and so on, and begin an industrial era.
    And later on the hobbits invent cars. And computers and begins an
    MiddleEarth Information Age. Then we get to follow thier progress when they invent
    space-travel and begin exploring thier galaxy! Where they explore strange new worlds,
    and civilizations. To boldly go, where no hobbit/human/wizard/elf/dwarf/ent/etc
    have never gone before! And then, finally we get to see how they discover the science
    behind all the fracking magic... No?

    Speaking of Fantasy, LoTR/Starwars crossover would work. Both are Fantasy.

    Most of the video is basic market hype. But at 27:10
    Why not scrap the entire Windows code base and start over?
    Russinovich openly freely admit that it's simply too much work!
    CONCLUSIONS
    1. Vista/7/8 = Forever Unsafe.
    2. Microsoft dont even want to try making a safe Windows.

    Most of the video is basic market hype. But at 41.50
    Russinovich explain one of the reasons why Vista/7 will always be bloated.
    CONCLUSION
    Every Windows will be slower and slower and slower and slower.

    I consider Privacy a basic Human Right. Nothing more, nothing less. I dont want
    any one spying on any of us IRL just as i dont want any one spying on us online.

    For example, as Google want to know everything about us and consider privacy dead.
    Then why cant we know everything about Google?! Where they live. What they do.
    Who they talk to. What they say. What they think, oppinions, feelings etc etc!

    Btw, only blocking 3rdPartyCookies still allows 1stPartyCookies. I've been testing
    which Cookies i can live without for half a year now.

    1. First i erased all cookies to begin with a clean slate.

    2. Then i tried surfing with AllCookiesOff, i found for example that Youtube auto-login
    require Google 1st and 3rd -Cookies and Youtube Cookies. So i told Opera 'Site Preferences'
    to allow all cookies for those sites.
    And Google SearchPreferences cookie (NoWebHistory NoAutoSuggest NoFilter). And a few more sites.
    But then i quickly exited Opera and saved a copy of my cookies.dat

    3. I edited my Opera.lnk to reset new cookies to make it much hard to track me.

    The sad part is that the kernel alone wont replace Windows. We still need to fix GNOME into something
    non-bloated and good enough that most will agree on it beeing 'the GUI for Linux' . KDE and most
    WindowManagers are very nice but they dont fill that gap.

    A fully working replacement for ActiveDirectory is also required. Or am i missing something obvious?

    And a little more work on Wine.

    With these three in place i dont see any reason for n00bs nor organizations nor me to loose any more
    money to Microsoft.

    It all depends. Is it going to be sci-fi -looking but behave like Fantasy.
    Or is it actual sci-fi?

    I dont remember the originals that well, where they Fantasy or sci-fi?

    If the new is going to be actual-sci-fi then some serious thinking has
    to be done about many things.

    Btw, How about a remake of Star Trek with actual sci-fi!? What, too soon? :P

    I can tolerate SW 3-4-5. There's even brilliant moments.
    (1-2-3 dont even qualify as mediocre Star Wars)

    I suggest re-borrow the good ideas from Stargate, with
    ascension and telekinesis and so on. Make The Force into
    real sci-fi, rather then Fantasy/Religion thingy.
    And make it for grown-ups this time.

    And bring back Jar-Jar for two seconds and drop an 5000kg
    anvil on him.

    Google Ads are opt-out. That's why we need Browsers that
    AdBlock By Default to gain back the balance we had. And to
    give back privicy to all those non-technical people that
    doesnt have a clue what to choose.

    I install all Browser's to people with proper hosts and
    some extra fine-tuning Browser-settings that hosts-file cant do.

    I'm thinking of creating a Schedule job bat script that wget's an
    updated hosts file every so and so...

    But even this wont solve the whole problem. I'm already seeing
    css-ads that i cant block yet. My battle to stop annoying web-browsing
    has only begun.

    Yes it would if we lived in a capitalist utopia where everyone do
    business without any greed to screw people over. And where customers
    where in-depth experts in all details for every deal they make. Then
    yes indeed such a world would be sweet.

    methods that could (and will) be used against us.

    No one use Yahoo nor Bing (i've even put www.bing.com in my hosts)

    But frankly Google must have competition from somewhere. Google

    That's why i choose the cheapest internet money can buy 250kbps/128kbps ~9€/month :D
    I keep DC++ up around the clock on a silent 256 RAM 350MHz. I get on average
    a movie per day, that's more then plenty for me.
    Even Youtube often works _while_ p2p does two full uploads!

    Carefully add one at a time and measure overall performance over time. Check if it
    makes things better or worse or has no effect. I've been using these with no noticable
    problems over several years.

    Oh, and the 350MHz PC is also a DNS server, helps cut more traffic.
    (i tweaked W2003 until it ran fine on 256 RAM)

    Isnt ChromeOS more aimed at replacing thin clients?
    With the Cloud replacing the centralized Server.
    No more need for expensive Server hardware.
    No more need for expensive Server OS Licenses.
    No more need for expensive Server Antivirus Licenses.
    (No doubt this may cause Ballmer to sob his way to sleep
    every night)

    For all people that just want to write and surf and such,
    COS would Check-Mate all Thin Clients and Ubuntu/XP/Vista/7.
    (More sobbing)

    People that need faster hardware, gamers and such dont need
    to bother with COS.
    (Happy Ballmer. For now)

    Btw, could Chrome ever run WINE? What _is_ the Cloud? Flash? Java?

    Google is just too sloppy with thier algorithms. But
    the much much bigger problem is the existence of all the
    rasist sites.
    I'm no legal expert. But is rasism _LEGAL_ in the US??!
    (assuming some of the sites are from US or made by white americans)
    To solve this problem, you americans, must create some proper laws ffs.
    I assume you have laws against other illegal contents. I mean in those
    instances you've managed to lessen Free Speech within reason.

    I'm confused.

    Sue google for illegal algorithms? I'm serious. Try doing something
    to fix this!

    Make a law that say: black-human image + monkey image + rasism context = illegal.

  16. Scifi is becoming mainstream on Has Sci-Fi Run Out of Steam? · · Score: 1

    Sci-fi is important for the mainstream, not just to geeks. SF must try to reach the masses.
    Firefly was fantastic in that regard. My little sister, who hates space,
    was glued to all episodes. Allthough the actual science and sci-fi in Firefly lacked detail.
    Still, Firefly and later on BattlestarGalactica did wonders to make sci-fi more mainstream
    without beeing bad. (Allthough BSG after season 3,5 was completly worthless)
    Star Trek 2009 also tried to have it both ways. The result was that trekkies felt like barf
    and women enjoyd it!
    And now, Stargate Universe tries to be mainstream. Needless to say, there's a looong way
    to go yet...

    On the more scary aspect of where sci-fi actually IS dying. Fantasy that tries to look
    like Sci-fi: StarWars Heroes X-Men Hitchhiker'sGuide Dollhouse X-Files and on and on...
    This is extremly troublesome since better sci-fi lead to better science.

    It covers everything and explains everything. I think
    it's actually far more beautiful then e=mc^2.
    And the nicest thing is that it's up to _us_ to choose
    how to best use evolution and information.

    But i dont have the freedom to choose not to. That's
    the principle. I want you to have the freedom of chioce.
    But i also want that freedom for me too.

    At this point Google isnt a BadGuy. But Google cant guarantee
    us that it will behave like this next year or even next week.
    That's the second principle.

    CONCLUSION
    Google = Spyware

    I'm doing everything i can think of to protect my freedom of
    choice over who and what have my data.

    Opera default settings: NoCookies NoFlash NoReferer
    Then edit 'Site Preferences' for sites that really need it.

    I also block Flash-Cookies.

    Why dont Microsoft just FIX XP-32 and XP-64 ?!?
    Use nLite and you're halfway there. Add modern drivers.
    Microsoft could add support for QuadCore and DX11 and whatnot.
    Then XP would hold Linux at bay!
    (fortunally Microsoft helps Linux nowadays, hehe)

    dir listing working again. There's no way i
    spend hours making links to over 100 images.

    The web-upload interface was reason enough to pull the
    plug.

    Anyone know of any free sites with ftp that allow
    dir listing ?

    Vista sucks. Vista is NT6.0
    Windows7 is NT6.1 (still Vista)

    Windows8 dont exist.

    Seems Microsoft is hard at work paving the way for Linux...

    Windows ftp.exe can scripted to download browsers, easy.
    If wget is too GPL or something.

    The best and most fair solution should be
    to include all browsers on the Windows CD and
    choose during or just after Windows Install.
    There should also be allowed to Install/Uninstall
    whatever browser they like at any time.
    (Yes including truly Uninstalling IE)

    A bigger problem is in what order are these chioces
    presented. The one on the top-left will get almost all
    clicks even if it's Lynx or something :O
